I agree with your list. I'd like to add: floor mats, or anything that can be put on the floor. I really don't get the whole wearing letters on your butt thing. Who thought that was a good idea?

I can't talk too much though about decency, I have an Alpha bottle opener and a shot glass with the crest on it. For special occasions of course... thursday's are special. 1-1-1-1-1-1-9....06!!!!!!
Branding and tatooing is illegal in Delta. The letters are copyrighted and owned by the sorority and therefore cannot be permanently placed on your body.
We had to deal with that thong thing too.

Many of us feel that our letters should be worn near our hearts, never behind us, as something to forget, and certainly not where we could sit on them.
Maybe I imagined it, but I could swear I've seen crossing jackets with letters on the back. I don't think of it as putting my letters behind me and forgetting them, rather that from any angle people can see what I am part of and support, whether they are in front of me or behind me. :)

I've seen jackets with everything on the back. Unfortunately members have their own interpretations of what is appropriate. I've seen Gammas with their shield on the back of their jackets.

I don't know the para rules for all NPHC organizations but I've seen our orgs with shields/letters on the back.

Ummmm....most GLOs have had their letters trademarked/copyrighted.

audaz49 07-07-2005 03:58 PM

i can't speak for all of my sorors, and though i wouldn't wear my shield on my back (because it has my letters on it) i've seen it done. and nothing i said before is a cut and dried rule, just something that i have noticed and often discussed with members of LGLOs and HBGLOs. as far as letters being trademarked and copyrighted, not all GLOs have that done.

I don't know, but I've seen inappropriate "official" GLO items found on International websites.
No, it's usually E-Bay that carries the sketchy or off-colour stuff.

I would think that lettered toilet paper would definitely be a miss (Note: I've never actually seen lettered toilet paper...I merely thought of it as an inappropriate item).

I'm not crazy about seeing letters on sandals, maybe that's because I'm grossed out by feet.

TheEpitome1920 07-07-2005 04:37 PM

How does one put letters on toilet paper anyway?

Rio_Kohitsuji 07-07-2005 04:50 PM

I personally like inappropriate letter items.......it makes people on GC go nuts :p

Anyway, I have plenty of "bad" items w/my letters (and my fiance's) on them.

Ya know, this is a question for anyone who has the letter Omicron as a "middle" letter. So, do you have enough guts to put your letters on the butt?

jubilance1922 07-07-2005 05:25 PM

I think the important thing to remember is to follow your org's protocal. If you org thinks it is ok to have letters on butt, sandals, thongs whatever, then do that.

In general, I don't put my letters on anything that can be stepped on (like floormats.) I do have a poodle doormat, and I won't even step on that. I do have my letters on the back of my first crossing jacket, and I wear it proudly.

rocketgirl 07-07-2005 08:24 PM

We don't put our letters in places where they can be sat on or stepped on. I personally feel like that is highly appropriate because I have too much respect for my letters.

I don't have a problem with branding and/or tatooing. I say it's your body so rock it if you want too. Personally, I wouldn't do it, but it's more about the pain threshhold I seem to not have. My daddy aka Mr. Que has about 3 brands. Rock on daddy, lol.

All in all..I agree with TheEpitome and JoscelynC. I don't understand the letters on the butt thing, but whatever rocks your world i guess.

People need lives. They find too many things to focus on that aren't really THAT big a deal.
Why not do something productive with your time instead of whining about what clothes you think are inappropriate.
World hunger & AIDS...not thongs & sweatpants.

That's what the world hunger thread and AIDS thread are for.

This is the Inappropriate Letter Items thread.

If you don't like the discussion, it's really easy to get the fuck out. That's all.
