When I was asst Greek advisor at Mississippi State, a girl came to the LSU/State game as a date of someone connected with the cheerleaders and claimed to be a Chi O at Arkansas. I mean, she had on Chi O EVERYTHING. After just a few hours, one of their officers asked me if I knew anyone at that chapter because the State chapter really had their doubts about this girl. I knew their president and called her and sure enough--a perp. The rest of the weekend, the Chi Os had a good old time leading her on and making up things about the ritual that she'd agree with--like, "Wasn't it cool in initiation when we had to pretend to row a boat across the chapter room?" and she'd go, "Oh, yeah! I really felt it for Chi O during that!"

It must have gotten misplaced in the thousands of times I've moved in the few short years since I was initiated. :(

Anyway, my story- After my little was "asked not to return" to our chapter, we would always see her wearing the shirts that they had not managed to get back from her. We couldn't figure out why she would wear them since she didn't seem to take any pride in our letters while she was a member. Talk about frustrating.

So a chapter can kick a person out of the organization??

Well, to make a long story short, yes. You can't in your organization?

An individual chapter of Zeta Phi Beta cannot expell a member. That decision comes from our International Headquarters.

Not exactly...only National Council can officially dismiss a member. The chapter can vote to recommend dismissal.

Lindz928 06-26-2004 08:41 PM

I'm not exactly sure how it worked with the girl in our chapter. Our exec and advisors took care of whatever needed to be done to have her removed from the chapter.... I think it was sad- when you've burned so many bridges that even your big doesn't want you in the chapter anymore, something is wrong. :(

IowaStatePhiPsi 06-28-2004 02:34 AM

if I have met someone falsely claiming to be a Phi Psi- it hasnt been a negative experience. Twice when I've been out mowing the chapter property alumni that aren't on our contact lists have stopped by to see how the recolonizing is going and to give the colony some money. (Yeah- if you're not in contact with the GLO you were in 10 years ago, would you just give $150 and not your contact information?)

We actually had a girl that stole pictures off one of our sisters and tell some guy over the internet that it was her and she was a DG. This guy was friends with some Alpha Xi's here and they recognized her from rush and told him that her name wasn't ____ and it wasn't the same girl he was talking to. Weird huh?

This doesn't sound farfetched to me -- I've worked with alumni of various organizations who did this kind of thing. Some people are really paranoid about their privacy and avoiding all junk mail/spam/money-seeking calls. So if they want to give money, they just hand it over. They prefer to initiate all contact rather than ever being called.

AXiD has membership cards, but we don't get certificates. I would like to see headquarters start giving those out!

Phi Sigma Pi, on the other hand, gives out membership certificates but not cards.

OK. Here's a story I hope is entertaining. Please remember: it happened a long time ago, there was a lot of drinking, and, well, there was a lot of drinking.
We were members of the university's athletic spirit honorary for men. It was made up almost entirely of fraternity guys, and a couple dozen of us took a long road trip to another university for a football weekend. Turns out we were the opponent for their Homecoming, so their entire campus was alive with parties Friday night. All the fraternities were building floats for the Saturday parade before the big game.
Rather than split up our group and go to our own various houses, we decided we wanted to stay together. We agreed that we would all pretend to be members of whatever fraternity we visited, led by the members of our club who actually WERE brothers of that fraternity.
When we walked into the SAE house, the two or three SAE's in our group introduced us all around as members of their chapter at FSU. When we went to the KA house, and the Lambda Chi house and the Sigma Chi house, we were just twenty-four guys from that chapter at Florida State, visiting and happy to be guests at a homecoming party hosted by our "Brothers" at the host campus.
Before we began our waltz across the party landscape, we considered what to do if any of us were members of a fraternity with NO CHAPTER on the campus. All agreed that any orphan would have to be a 'pledge' and would not have Brother status. We got a campus map and discovered that Phi Delta Theta had no
chapter. So our spirit club president, who was also president of Phi Delt at FSU, had to assume the role of pledge wherever we went.
This was no problem until we got to my fraternity. We all walked up on the lawn, and I and a couple of other Pikes introduced the entire group as Pikes from FSU, including our 'pledge'. The local Brothers were very gracious and invited us inside to sample the fruits of the evening's celebration EXCEPT FOR THE PLEDGE. The pledges were all assigned to remain in the front yard and work on the float until it was finished. So naturally, they felt it was only proper for our pledge to join the others outside. From time to time we'd sneak a beer outside to him, and of course we'd have to point out that he wasn't hammering the nails properly and remind him that as a low pledge he needed to try very, very hard to make a good impression on us so we wouldn't blackball him. He actually threw a hammer at one of us, but other than that one thing he was a really good sport about it all.
It was a wonderful trip and we all talk about to this day. And, we heard that our host greeks were tremendously impressed that the campus was virtually "flooded" with Greeks from FSU. "There must have been twenty, thirty men from every fraternity at every party!", they said. And one (Phi Delt) pledge.

That's the best story ever haha. I would never do that to my own organization, I would feel too guilty about lying to my sisters, but I'm not saying I wouldn't go along with it and pretend to be from another house if the other Greeks I was with were willing to!

I'm not sure if this qualifies, but

I need to tell about this incident that happened to me anyway. When my sorority was just a very young interest group, I had a terrible experience with a perp. One night, I was in my suite minding my own business when my phone rang. It was a girl claiming to be in my interest group and that the sisters didn't want me in the sorority anymore. I was hurt at first, but I slowly realized that we didn't have a member by that name. Also, I recognized the caller as one of my suitemates posing as the non-existent sister. When I saw her, I verbally confronted her about it and told her I knew it that she did it. She denied ever calling me, but I knew it was her.

The next day, I confided in the group's advisor what the girl said to me. She reassured me that such a sister doesn't exist and not to worry about it. When I saw one of the sisters, I told her the same thing. Her jaw dropped and told me just about the same thing as the advisor.

I was a lot calmer afterwards, but still I was going crazy after the scare that f***ing beyotch troll from hell suitemate gave me.
