I am terrified of peacocks. I dont know why. My dad's company always has their yearly picnic at the zoo, and I remember I was about 16 the last time I went. The peacocks roam freely through zoo grounds, and one came near me, I jumped on my dads back. At 16, I probably could have done some major damage to my father. Everyone thought it was the most hilarious thing they had ever seen. I thought it was the most traumatic event of my life at the time. I cant even stand to see one. They turn up in the darndest places. Magazine ads, television commercials, movies, the middle of a major roadway were I live (this was interesting since i was in a convertible and the thing wouldnt get out of the road, I almost hyperventilated as I was putting the top up in the middle of the road). My boss even has feathers in his office. I kindly asked him to remove them, he said no. I cant go near the shelf they are on.

Oh, my parents used to own a peacock in their backyard. And I remember one day when I was about 10, I approached too close to it, and the stupid peacock was attacking me and scratched me all over my pack with its talons and pecked my head, while I was holding on my dear life. Since then, I am not too fond with peacocks.

I agree ... but that is more 80s feeling. And sometimes 80s makes me scared ...

OMG, when I was a child my father used to take those winding roads without guard rails at the fastest humanly possible speed.

Going down was worse than going up though. Going up felt lik there was control. Going down, well he would just let the car coast and build up speed. And the turns would get sharper and sharper . . I used to close my eyes and put my seat back.

Thanks a lot ZTAngel, I had forgotten all about that. I am going to go hyperventilate now. :(

I am also scared of winding mountain roads that have no guardrails. If I'm traveling along the outer side of the road and there's only about a foot between the road and a huge drop-off I will freak out. Luckily, I live in Florida but when I was in Cali last Spring Break my friend drove me through the mountains. My hands were so sweaty and I had to close my eyes.

For those of you who are terrified of peacocks, this thread will give you another reason to be scared of them AND crows:

Reasons Why a Crow Will Kick Your A$$

Even two years later, sometimes I lay awake at night listening for the Cry of The Peacock. I know he's out there somewhere looking for me. ;)

Bingo! I was trapped under a boat in the ocean once as a child. I was swimming under it and the waves kept going in the same motion as me. Yuck!

Big Ol' bumparoo...

I refuse to plug in anything other than my hair straightener and my blowdryer...Im terrified of electricity so plugging things in is a BIG deal lol

Thats pretty much the only really strange thing

Thanks for bumping this. I have a few weird ones to add. I also have a fish phobia. Icthyphobia? Hehe I'm a word nerd. It's funny cause I've had pet fish at several times in my life. Here's the worst parts about them:

1) I can't watch fish while I'm eating. I think I imagine their slippery bodies in my mouth and it's sooooo gross. If we're ever in a Chinese restaurant with a fish tank, I have to turn to face another direction.

2) I'm TERRIFIED of stepping on a fish. Reading Sister Havana's post from 5 years ago about stepping on a fish made me gag a little. I've seen a fish on the floor that got stepped on twice in my life. I started shaking and crying the last time.

Little aquarium fish freak me out more than a trout would. I've caught and killed trout several times, but they don't really weird me out.

My roommate is obsessed with the beach. We have shell patterned pillows, pictures of light houses, etc. all over our apartment. She's terrified of the ocean and what's in it, though. Go figure.

OMG. When I saw the title of this thread the first thing I thought about was my fear of electricity...and then I thought that I didn't want to share cause everyone would think I'm crazy. I'm SOOOO glad I'm not the only one!

I think it's because both my parents work for the electric company, and my dad has shared many stories of field workers getting seriously injured/killed from accidents at work.

elevators. enclosed spaces, getting trapped, etc. not being able to escape a situation. sitting in the back of a two door car. raw meat touching things that aren't about to be washed. paper cuts, mosh pits (getting crushed or trampled), anything i can't see into like murky water, deep water, pitch black rooms, etc. i'm high strung.

I hate the anxiety of a balloon about to pop. I get angry when a person threatens to pop a balloon in front of me.

I'm also claustrophobic so I can empathize with tri deezy.

This is only weird because I love mice, rats, and tarantulas, but I'm scared to death of house spiders, mice (like the ones that get in the house) and sewer rats that come through the toilets?.. What's weird is my tarantula has grown to fill my whole hand now and I hold her a lot, but I'm petrified of a house spider no bigger than my fingernail.:o
