Wow. So much that is so wrong with that post.

First, this depends where you live. In NYC, mass transit is very safe, and its easier to get around by subway than to use a car.

Second, get used to high gas prices. With so many populous nations industrializing, like China, demand is increasing faster than ever before.

Third, high gas prices do not mean higher mass transit costs. As gas prices go up, mass transit use goes up, and the operation of that becomes more efficient. Much more revenue may (or may not) offset the cost of operating buses.

Finally, if you live in the suburbs, the party is over. Your lifestyle has been subsidized for a half century, and the inefficiency of the way that you live is about to bite you in the ass.

So what if gas is $2 a gallon? Milk is $4 a gallon. ;) This bothers me infinitely more, as I loooove milk and other dairy. :(

One of the better posts I've seen. Small town living is even more efficient than suburban living.

Well, the milk has to be transported somehow. Higher gas prices----> higher milk (and everything else) prices.

Gas has dropped by 20 cents where I live. I filled up at 1.75 a gallon.

OKC = still cheaper. Saw it for $1.64 yesterday (if I used one of those Wal-Mart prepaid cards).

I actually saw prices here go down. It was $2.17 at el cheapo gas on the corner. But I filled up in the bay area over the weekend at $2.21.

Re: public transportation...

It depends on where you live. In the bay, EVERYONE uses BART. Prices are going up but it beats paying bridge toll every day ($2-3 to cross on average) and communiting into the city. And there is a BART station everywhere or at least super close to every where else. If I lived in the bay again, I would definitely be taking BART in.

However in Sacto, I don't live anywhere near a Light rail station. Granted I could walk from the R St stop to my V St job every morning, but I would have to drive a few miles to get to the station to take me there. And the bus systems around here aren't that reliable... unless of course, maybe I just don't pay much attention to the schedule. But I do know that the Sacramento State shuttle that bused kids from the college to certain places was the most unreliable form of PT. They were usually late, hense making you really late for classes, or they were early and you missed the bus, making you wait for the next. Hell, it was technically free, but that's not really an excuse.

You know it's bad when you get to the gas station and see the price per gallon is $1.87 and you say to yourself, "Wow! That's really cheap!" :(

And prices are back to being ridiculously high again.....

It's $1.98 at the gas station right by my work.

My boyfriend was saying that it's $1.89 by him (he lives just outside of Atlanta).

I'm glad that the 50 cent gas tax raise that Kerry supported never went through.

2 freaking dollars :eek:. last few weeks was only like 1.75.

After seeing how much petrol (gasoline) costs per liter (3.79 liters to 1 gallon) in Europe, I think we should be very happy knowing that we are still ahead of the game by a long shot. You may joke about the funny looking cars over there, but they get raped at the pumps much worse than here.

Still, it was cool when gas was like .89 cents a gallon a few years back. Just another one of those "when I was your age" stories I get to tell down the road...

It's up to $2.05 here which is the most I've ever seen it. If it's that much in Orlando, I can't imagine what my family in South Florida is paying.

I still long for January/February of 1999 when it was 85 cents a gallon.
