I'm not married b/c I don't want to be married. It's a choice, and I choose me! Some nights I eat a balanced meal and some nights I have ice cream for dinner.

Very Single and Very Happy

I'm proud to say that I am 36, single, and very happy! I have 4 nieces and nephews so I am lucky not to get grief from my parents. (And I'm the youngest). I have a miniature dachshund puppy, so I my mind, I do have a "child". I have seen so many people get married and have kids for the wrong reasons and in the end they end up unhappy.

Great thread!

:)

I have been with the same person for the last 5 years, and I get asked this question A LOT. What makes matters worse is that for this past Valentine's Day, my s/o gave me a beautiful ring as a gift...and people are constantly asking me, "is that an engagement ring...OMGZ ARE YOU GETTING MARRIED??!"

...which I find really odd, considering I am about six months shy of my 20th birthday.

Usually I'm like, "Geez, can I finish my undergraduate degree first?" I'm not even 20, I'm thinking about getting my cap and gown and getting out of undergrad, NOT getting a wedding gown!

When I was single and looking...

Guys would come up to me in their thuggish ways and ask: Where's yo man?

I got tired of explaining why I chose to be single and unattached to ignorance like that. So I started responding, "Where's yours..."

That put an end to it...

However, I was astonished to find out that my G-ma questioned my husband after we got married saying, "So, you decided to stop fornicating and get married..."

So I think men get it after they are married...

Both sides get the children question while they are married and oh, do not let the couple get pregnant and not be married... That would be verboten...

I've been with the same man for over 5 years and we've both been ask that question a ridiculous amount of time. We both respond "When you pay for it." Quite honestly we are broke, and though we've been "shacking up" for about 3 years, I see marriage as sacred and I don't want to become a statistic (one of the 52% of people getting divorce). Though people say well if you love him what's the problem. The problem is love don't pay the bills. Finances plays a large part in a marriage and I'm not going to get into a union with no money.

Ladies,

I am curious as to how others respond. I get asked this question a lot and I get irritated at the person every time. How do you respond when people (mostly men) ask you this.

It depends on if I think the person will get my humor. I will say that I am married and me and my husband live our own lives. If he asks me more info about my husband, I will drop hints that that it is a crazy mutual friend.

Ok. But for real, can someone tell me why I'm not married?

Personally, I have no desire to get married. Thus I don't date... I believe that the purpose of dating is to find your mate for life. Since I don't date, I have not found a mate... it all kinda works together. Now who knows, maybe when I reach my 40s-50s I will want marriage but until then, I will just enjoy being with me, myself and I.

UPDATE

I'm getting married:D!! But for the reason stated below we are waiting 2 years so we can save for it and plan accordingly. So now I gotta answer the question, "why you waiting so long".

Congrats!

And you just answered the question: You're waiting so that you can plan and save for the wedding and reception you want. If your families press the issue, just tell them that if they want you married sooner, you can always elope and then they won't get to be there when you get married... they'll shut up :p

Re: Re: UPDATE

I know these people, they tell me to go ahead and elope, I'm sure they don't care. What will shut them up if they want us to get married sooner, is if I tell them pay for it. I'd marry this man tomorrow if I could but no one is going to put me in the poor house to satisfy them.
