MA Pill in the US

So someone in the states clarify something for me:

If you want the EC pill in the US, do you have to get a prescription for it?

In Vancouver, all you have to do is phone a pharmacy, ask them if they carry it, sign a waiver at the pharmacy counter and walk out with it.

There was a local pharm. near my hometown that did this about 10-12 years ago. At that time you could actually still smoke in the stores and such, so this was really radical. Anyway, he got a MAJOR amount of press coverage. He was local so that's perfectly fine - however if he would have been running the local Revco he would have been totally ragged on, and rightly so.

Slightly O/T, back to the hospitals...my OB/GYN was located in Mercy Hospital (which is a Catholic hospital - but I am not Catholic, I followed him from another practice) and the practice was called Mercy Medical Associates. Getting the pill through them was never a problem - so where does that line get drawn? I'm not criticizing one way or the other, just curious.

I'm really not sure where the line is drawn - I think it varies a lot from school to school, hospital to hospital. MU's SHS is pretty uptight about it, as are several of the Catholic hospitals around here. However, like I said, they find ways to give girls the pill, for "medical problems" or whatever other reason.

yep, that pretty much says it all right there. b/c this guy and his "Christian morals" has now given those not of a Christian faith to have one more rock to throw. not all Christians feel the same way he did about not providing her with this drug......and everyone is absolutely correct in that he should work somewhere else.

i didn't see this answered yet. currently you need a prescription to get the MA pill. however, the FDA is in the process of trying to decide if they should make it OTC. it passed the first round of debates saying it should be. someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i think within the next few months the final decision should be made. there is another thread on this, let me see if i can dig it up.

Man, you seriously can misinterpret some pretty straightforward posts. It is men like this who give perfectly good Christians--the ones who follow the compassionate dictums of Jesus Christ--a bad name, and a reputation for being judgemental. No sarcasm intended, now that I've had to explain it to you in a clearer matter.

geeeez........hope that was "straightforward" enough for you, man.

This mofo was not Catholic, thankfully.

Our Lady of Suck and Such? that one named for Mary Magdalene? What kind of Catholic churches have YOU been going to ;)

Not a flame, but if i was a student at a Jesuit university i wouldn't be totally shocked if i wasn't able to get contraception from Student Health Services. course, i went to a large public state school, and we had them come talk to our chapter and give us all free condoms, in a wide array of colors and flavors.

A lot of y'all are slamming what the pharmacist did, saying, "if he didn't believe in it, he shouldn't have worked there." In the article it says that Eckerds has a clause that pharmacists are not permitted to refuse to fill prescriptions. The pharmacist was quoted as saying he wasn't aware of that clause. I'm inclined to believe him. So now he knows, if he does get a job at another pharmacy i'm sure he will ask if he has to fill such prescriptions.

So, i give the guy props for having such conviction as to sacrifice his job over his religious beliefs. But, i agree that Eckards should have fired him. His position was not one that he should have been using as a pulpit to advance his religious beliefs.

And i'm just sad to see so many on GC that are anti-religion. But that's a can of worms that i'm not gonna open.

SUCK AND SUCH? Whoops.

I'm not really surprised about the contraception - I knew that was coming. I was much more irked with the lady who told me my surgery (totally not sex related) was "God's way of telling me to slow down."

I still can't believe I said suck and such.
