Well, I have some bad news. A very dear friend of mine has been sick for a while, and has slowly gotten worse. She isn't expected to get any better and was given about 3 months! It absolutely devasted me to find this out and to realize that we don't have much time left together. I've decided to wait until Fall to start my new member period with a sorority, and spend most of my time with her. I know you guys really wanted to know who I would choose, but right now, this has to come first.
Thank you guys for all of your support!

oh wow, i am so sorry. it is very cool that you are willing to put what you really want on hold for your friend. at least you have a year with your bids. congrats on your success and good luck with your decision.

Okay, I hate to the be bearer of bad news, but I am trying to be helpful...

If you don't want to pledge now, that is understandable (admirable), but know what your options are. Your bids may NOT be good for a year if the groups you are interested hit quota/total in fall rush.

Just be sure you clarify the school's and group's policies before you make a final decision.

So sorry to hear that your friend is ill. I agree with what DeltaBetaBaby said....if you want to pledge in the fall, talk with the greek adviser and the group you are interested in. You may be able to officially accept your bid now with the intention to begin the pledge process in the fall, or you may have to wait and offically accept at the start of the fall semester.

I don't know what your campus greek system is like....if they have enough women graduate in May, they may have room to add you to the fall NM class. Some campuses kind of "cancel" COB bids until after Fall Recruitment (That sounds bad...I don't mean cancel in a bad way...I mean they count fall bids toward quota/total first, then add in the COB bids. If they get to total before the COB bids are counted, then that's it. No room. Hope that made some sense....) On some campuses it's no big deal. You can start pledging when you want.

In any case, find out all of your options. Enjoy spending time with your friend...and good luck in both situations. Stick around and keep us updated!

I am so sorry to hear about your friend. Please keep us updated on her situation. We care.

Check out your options with the greek life person. This may further help you decide what to do next.

I just talked to my Rho Chi, and she said that it was perfectly fine to wait until fall. She encouraged me to go to the houses during this semester to get a feel for how a new member semester is going to be. She also said that if I needed to I could go through formal recruitment, to get a better understanding of each sorority. I just need to let them know that I'm still considering their bid, I just don't have enough information to make a lifelong commitment. She totally understood about my friend as well. So, maybe I will get my happy ending after all. I'm also going to use this semester to get my grades back up to a 3.0+, then if I still wanted to go through during the fall, I might even get another bid from the house that didn't give me one last week. I have a lot on my plate right now, but I know that I will have to strive to my best ability, if I want to succeed in a sorority and in life.

Aww, hon, I'm soooo so sorry. :( That's the best decision you could have made. You can pledge a sorority next year, no biggie. That's sweet of you to devote so much time to your friend. I'm sorry to hear that though. :(

**hugs**

Good deal. Do the orgs know why you are not accepting a bid at this time? If you never tell them they might think you are totally not interested, which isn't the case. You don't have to go into great detail, but a small explanation may help.

Good luck and stick around!! Never know what kind of excitement you'll see on GC!

Good luck, lil_princess! You're making some tough decisions, but they sound like they're very good ones.

congrats on taking the high road. hopefully things should work out for you.

This may sound silly... but if you feel weird about talking to the glos about why you are leaving (verbally) then a really nice Thank You note is a great way to do it. It is something that says two things... one that you have manners and two that you want them to remember you because not too many people send little notes. It is also something tangable that could be put in a file and give you the leg up next fall! It is just an idea.

I second this! I think that would be a great idea...classy and memorable...

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend...I know in the long run you will look back and know that you will have made the right decision.
