Sorry Brother Copoper, I am cussing you right now for the Cold Weather in Kansas right now!

Since you were in the Military, Canada according to the paper this morning will not have an Army, Airforce, or Navy in the very Near Future!

DeltaAlum, paleeze do not pick on one of my Brothers, as it is not his fault that Canada is the way it is!;) They have worse Polotitcians than we do if possible!:o

I was discussing this type of situation just yesterday at my store, and the point was, damn before the FDA and all of the other Pork Barrell Agencies, it was amazing that people lived as long as they did!

Out Houses, Not having food at frozen state to keep it semi fresh, canning your own garden veggies with natural growth, no miricle grow! Da!

Well, now the Adkins Group is saying cut back on what we have been telling you! Da.

FDA, dont eat eggs, Italian, Chinese, Salt, or some other bullshit, but each time they say after a short period of time, oh golly gee, it really is okay! Is This a A F**king Moron time?

A justification of a position is fine, but damn this gets silly!

You're right, it's not illegal to use the brian and spinal cord, technically...but I read somewhere that it is illegal to use it in ground beef, etc. In other words, I guess you can eat brain and whatever by itself, but it can't be mixed with meat from other parts of the animal if it's going to market. That's what our local paper said anyway.

...actually, I'm quite fond of them. (Sorry guys) They just don't serve them around here. Crazy isn't it. People will eat squirrel and nutria. They will eat mud bugs, but not that part of the bull.

These are the only people my parents buy beef from.

I can't remember the last time I had beef, but Mad Cow isn't stopping me. I normally just don't eat it.

aggieAXO 01-18-2004 03:34 PM

yuk-eating cow brains, that is disgusting; I don't eat beef so personally I don't give a rats ass about BSE. Eat it at your own risk. I think more people have died of E.Coli oH157 or whatever it is. This is a disease we KNOW how to prevent but slaughter houses get lax and people die. I say don't eat meat, if you want to sue me for saying that then go right ahead (speaking to the cattle people in Amarillo).

Cows who are allowed to graze naturally are better for us than cows that are fed grain. Grain is much cheaper, but has a much higher potential for contamination.

Fast Food Nation goes into the E.coli issue much more explicitly than I can.

contamination from what? from the prions that cause BSE or E.Coli? My understanding in school was that E. Coli was a natural part of the GI tract and what they eat would not change this but I have not studied large animal medicine in almost 7 years so my memory may not be so good (as soon as I walked across the stage the large animal info. was mostly forgotten).

An Albertan speaks...

Unless you eat cow brains (ewww...), you don't really have a lot to worry about.

Oh, and JustAMom, we call them "Prairie Oysters" here! ;)

Munchkin03 01-18-2004 10:58 PM

Oh, it had nothing to do with BSE...it was about E.coli in humans, especially children. It's been a while since I read it--and it was probably sensationalized to some degree. It just made me very cautious about eating beef.

JAM The next time my dad goes through and castrates, you want me to send a shipment of RMO out to you? ;)

Not necessarily, wildlife carcasses and feces can also contaminate pastures where cattle graze. If the farmer/rancher keeps good track of his cattle and moniters what they're being fed, they should be safe no matter if they're ranch or feedlot.

ETA: As far as just straight BSE goes, yes, grain-fed cattle are more likely to be contaminated than pastured cattle, but as far as other diseases go, any cattle anywhere can get them.

But I'm also biased because my dad and his brothers have been raising feedlot beef cattle for over 40 years They're almost all completely grain fed except when the cows/heifers are calving, then they're pastured and given hay.

YUMMY YUM YUM!!!!:D

My grandfather had sheep, pigs and horses. He got rid of the pigs and turned to cattle. Those were the most wonderful years.
He always sent me a side of beef already packaged. Best darn steaks in the WORLD-Kansas steak!

I Love those Omaha Steaks too! We get them for Christmas presents from my Aunt.

I'm really sick of all of this Mad Cow talk.

Couldn't someone just placate Elsie so we could all be friends?
