I think the morning after pill should be an over the counter pill, imagine if you had a condom break on Friday night and you can't see your doctor until monday? Every hour that goes by lessens the chances of the morning after pill working... ETA: Sorry, I missed some posts on the clarification between the morning after pill and ru-486... Plus, having taken a morning after pill regimine once, I can say that I never want to do it again... I did get way sick, and luckily my doctor prescribed me anti-nausea medicine to take too. I don't particualrly feel that it will increase promiscuity, because there is a cost inhibitor, and it's still not entirely convenient. |
On the one hand, I think the morning-after pill is a necessity...some may not agree, but accidents happen and I would rather prevent a pregnancy than have to resort to abortion. But on the other hand, I do think it should be used under a doctor's supervision...or the doctor should at least know you are taking it. I know one thing, though--the morning-after pill should at least be available in a timely manner to those who need it. I had some friends who worked in pharmacies, and according to them some pharmacies just do not stock it so it's harder to obtain than some migh think.
