Hey ladies,

Just wanted to make a comment to all of us fretting over our pins falling into non pi phi hands. As much as I hate the idea, we need to realize that the pins only have sentimental value to those who know it's meaning, and other people (collectors, auctioneers) can only attatch value to it because we do. So don't worry too much about the pins being owned by non-pi phi's. Just because you buy them doens't mean you know thier true value:)
However, the thought of initiation manuals falling into the wrong hands scares me...Nothing actually secret is in them, but set up and what-not is in there, and I don't know about you guys, but I consider that pretty secret, too.

Pi Phi Love,
C.

How does a pledge pin get on ebay?

Jill1228 02-15-2004 06:27 PM

Girl, I dunno. I have seen several pledge pins from GLOs on ebay, including AXD and Alpha Phi. Makes me wanna holler!

erniegurl00 02-16-2004 01:38 AM

It would be easy. A girl could depledge from a sorority and run off with the pin. It almost happened when I was pledge educator. The girl who left forgot to give back the pin, and I had to go and hunt her down to get it back!

Since we have some members of West Virginia Alpha participating on the GC Pi Phi board, I thought you'd be interesting in an item I found tonight while surfing ebay;
**a vintage (1931) Pi Phi badge with pearl shaft that belonged to a WV Alpha! The bidding is currently at $50... crown pearl badges currently sell new for ~$100 so this is a bargin and is your heritage... it would be great if a current WV Alpha got it!

There is also a pin they list as "vintage" that came from an estate sale that are the greek letters. It can be worn in non-pin attire or on outer clothing. Those pins were, at one time, sold as "Brother Pins" (before having Arrowmen was banned for fear of losing our 'single sex' status as an organization)-- that's your trivia for the night.

pin

oh my god, i love that pin. it belongs back at our chapter. I just hope nationals wont out bid me. I heard they tend to do that. i am even considering calling nationals and telling them that i am a pi phi so that they wont try to outbid me. that is absolutely amazing.

dakareng 03-02-2004 06:51 PM

If it is someone from "nationals" meaning our Archivist, you'll see the bidder's name as piphiarchivist, or simply archivist.

I think you'd be safe there-- they don't have the $$ to bid on every pin that comes up and would only go after true heritage pins (those older than 100 years)/ I think we'd all rather see this pin back in the hands of someone from the original chapter!

Good luck!

Found a badge on ebay. It's from new York Delta.

It says it has the the name, date, and chapter engraved, but you can't see it in the photos.
