Jay-Z Announces Farewell Performance

Jay-Z Announces Farewell Performance

First comes the Jay-Z concert. Then the album will follow, then the sneaker, then the book.

Just say "Black." Got it?

Jay-Z said as much yesterday in announcing his farewell performance at Madison Square Garden Nov. 25.

The event will trail what organizers billed as Jay-Z's "triple threat" of releases.

Jay-Z's final solo release, "The Black Album," the tenth album for the Roc-A-Fella rapper, and sneaker - the black version of his Reebok sneaker, "S. Carter" - hit stores on - you guessed it - "black" Friday, Nov. 28.

The Brooklyn-born rapper's autobiography, "The Black Book," debuts in early 2004.

"It's magical," said Jay-Z at a news conference in the Garden yesterday, flanked by Russell Simmons and Benjamin Chavis of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network.

"I consider this my victory lap," said Jay-Z, who also said his retirement will mean a smaller presence within Hip-Hop - just singles. "We're calling this 'From "Marcy to Madison Square.' "

The book will unveil "just my process" going from Brooklyn's Marcy projects to his 1996 debut, said the rapper.

Simmons and Chavis said all proceeds of the concert, which follows Jay-Z's "Hard Knock Life" and "Rock the Mic" tours this summer, will go to the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network and the Shawn Carter Scholarship Fund, which serves high school students.

Simmons, founder of the Hip Hop Summit, said the centerpiece of the event will be voter registration. Organizers also said the concert will be peaceful - dispelling notions that rap is a vehicle of violence.

Asked by a Norwegian journalist to comment on the "so-called rap war," Simmons responded:

"Our war that the rappers are fighting is ignorance and poverty. . . That's probably the most important war."

Jay-Z predicted films in his future - as an actor, director, producer and writer - but offered no details.

Asked about other performers at the Nov. 25 concert, Jay-Z said: "It's surprise guest stars."

Added Simmons: "We're gonna fill the Garden."http://www.nynewsday.com/media/photo...09/9538327.jpg

I thought his last album was his last album. He and Ja Rule are going to keep suckering people into buy their albums and making people think that they are their last. DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!!

I think it depends on what you count-

1. Reasonabel Doubt
2. Vol 1- In my lifetime
3. Vol 2 - Hard Knock Life
4. Vol 3 - Life and TImes of Shawn Carter
5. The Blueprint
6. The Blueprint 2- the Gift and the Curse
7. MTV Unplugged
8. Best of Both Worlds
9. Dynasty Roc La Familia

The last three I think are "special" to be counted but probably are.

That's right Kimmie. The Dynasty album was supposed to be all Roc-a-Fella artists but at the last minute Jay decided that it should be his solo album. That's why there are so many group songs, except Give It 2 Me, which I LOVE!! :D I don't believe that it's his last CD either.

Musiq To Drop Soulstar In December

Fittingly, the Philadelphia studio that R&B singer Musiq has been holed up in for the past few months working on his third LP, Soulstar, is named Home Cookin.' It seems the singer is always aiming to make tunes that leave you feeling fulfilled, as though you'd just eaten a hearty meal.

According to his label spokesperson, Musiq has set a release date of December 2 for his album and is almost ready to unveil his first single to the world, an uptempo number entitled "Forthenight." The idiosyncratic crooner stuck to the usual ingredients for his musical buffet, working with his writing partner Carvin Haggins and Ivan Barias, who produced most of his first two albums.

Besides the single, Musiq covered the Rolling Stones' "Miss You" and is offering up other cuts on the album like "Romancipation," "Love Me" and "Who Knows." Currently there are no guest stars on Soulstar playing major roles, but Musiq's rep said fellow R&B singer Kenny Lattimore laid background vocals for one song.

The singer is currently finalizing a treatment for the "Forthenight" video.

One of the local radio stations played his new single yesterday, I only caught the tail end of it, so I'm not really sure what it sounds like.

HIJACK
It was good meeting you, too! And yes, we did take 1st in that show! We took second the next weekend in another area show!
END HIJACK

I thought Best of Both Worlds was released just with little fan fare as the Rra scandal jumped off around the same time.
I would add the Blueprint 2.1 to the list of CD's I don't really count as it is a condensed version of the Blueprint 2 with some of the tracks off the Blueprnt 2 appearing, others being cut out and 2 additional tracks. It would be in the same category as the unplugged CD (songs that have already been released) just not a live version. IMO, he had 6 solo joints and 4 "other".
