I'm thinking of starting that up as a hobby. Like I want to go to coral reefs and dive, though. I live in Miami, FLA and coral reefs arent far away in the carribean. Is it expensive to start up? And how much gear do you need.....

Tips?

cashmoney...I tried to PM you, but YOUR BOX IS FULL!! ;)

Here's what I wrote you.... LOL

I'm actually in the midst of getting certified right now. I've done 3 of my 4 dives required to get your Open Water (OW) certification. I was supposed to get my 4th dive done yesterday, but the water conditions were really poor and we had to abort the dive.

As far as start-up, finding classes in your area will most likely be easy. Even the YMCA has classes!! Costs may include registration and class fees, rental of gear and boat fees. I was required to purchase the following:

Mask
Fins
Snorkel
Boots (for the fins)
Gloves (cold water dives)

What I rented (fees for rental were $45 + $100 deposit (refundable) which includes tank refills):
Wetsuit (7mm)
Hood
Regulator/Computer/Octopus (2nd/backup reg)
Weights
BCD

Hope this helps! My start up cost in totem was about $500...I plan to buy more equipment as I get certified and have the money (little by little)...

Any other questions? Feel free to PM me back!!

Jodi

LOL...the box is empty now. :)

Another question, is there any difference in certification between coral reef diving and freshwater spring diving? I'm asking because most divers I've been in contact with were diving in the one of million freshwater springs we have in Florida....but I want to dive and explore the coral reefs.

Nope! Certification for OW is for all waters...there is one exception...if the altitude is over 1000' then there's a different certification, but you'd still need your OW certs anyway before getting specialty certifications...the OW cert is the most basic and allows you to dive to 60' down. You can dive the coral reefs with this OW cert. :D

Man is cheating on wife with girls at bar = marriage is doomed.

Marriages only work if both people trust the other. For me, it would only really be an issue if I found out that my trust had been broken. People having affairs are generally pretty stupid about it, in fact, most of them kind of want to get caught.

Hey, if my wife was pregnant, I wouldn't be hauling her to the bar with me to be exposed to second hand smoke. She'd be staying at home. For all you know, the guy at the bar had taken the night off and hired a masseuse to take care of his wife at home -- a foot and back massage would probably be in order. Couples need time apart, and frankly, I didn't read the initial message of the thread, but is it any of your business anyway?

I must really be lucky because when I was pregnant & even now...all my fiances spare time is devoted to me & PJ... He never ever thought of going anywhere without me & even
if he would have I would have been waddling right in behind him!!

Now unless I am having my rings professionally cleaned or I have my hands in the dirt planting flowers ect....I never take my rings off...he proposed to me 4 months before we found out I was pregnant & then for our anniversary he bought me the matching band (my ring comes in a trio)
While I was pregnant & ready to deliver..I had to make a pit stop by a jewlers to have them cut my band off so I could get the engagement ring off just for delivery...I wasnt even home a week & had my band fixed & back on...I never take mine off because I am proud of it & it has a very special meaning...
My fiance has a ring that I have bought him & he NEVER takes it off! Just out of respect for our relationship & commitment to each other...

I guess it just goes to show that we're all really different, and one woman's lucky is another woman's ew gross get away from me for a minute. If Mr. valkyrie didn't think of going anywhere without me, I'd be plenty annoyed, and I'm sure he'd say the same thing. I think it's good to have your own life and interests away from your significant other, but hey, to each her own.

Yes we are all different because my life is my family & I wouldnt want to be anywhere without them.
You would be the same if you had a yr old son & a fiance who is a golf pro that you never get to see except maybe 2 days a week...we have plenty of time away from each other & we both chose to spend all our spare time together!

LOL, if I had a year old son, I would be really unhappy because I don't want to have kids, ever.

Hello all --

Got a story to contribute - three weeks ago, some co-workers and I went to a notorious singles bar on a Thurs night. We were talking to two guys, one in from Ohio and the other from his job downtown. The Ohio one mentioned they were staying in NYC that night at his hotel and then he was going out to NJ and staying with his downtown friend and his wife. So he outed his friend to us. I got to talking to the NJ friend - we went to friendly private schools a couple of years apart and were talking about commuting. Later that night, his ring was definitely in his pocket and him and his Ohio friend were going down to the Lower East Side to live it up - they wanted me and my friends to come with.

I was pretty horrified but I wondered... how much does this really happen? I would assume often enough...
