Congratulations to Miss Ericka and her Miss America win! I missed the show because I was volunteering but caught some clips on TV this morning...girlfriend was really FEELING THE SPIRIT! She looked wonderful.
I know all Deltas are so proud of her and I'm sure she will represent your organization well! Congrats again to her and DST! |
She is absolutely beautiful. I didn't watch the whole show and didn't catch that she was a Delta until the part where she was showing all of her elephant collection. It was obvious then.
I thought that Miss Maryland should have placed a little better - at least better than Miss Wisconsin. However, I agree that the best woman won this time. |
Congrats to Miss Erica!! I saw the show and she was great!! Everyone in my house was screaming like we knew her personally, it was too funny!! I also wished that Miss Maryland placed higher but they all did well!!!

I haven't been able to get on GC all dayum day, so this is the first I have been able to come on say yes Soror Dunlap did the damn thing...ya heard!!

Beauty, style and grace
Wow,
Now you know it's a big deal when I interupt my studies to get online to say a few words. I too was watching Saturday night (in between studying of course) and screamed so loud I know she heard me in Jersey!!! I didn't find out she was a Soror until yesterday. A soror called and said that Soror President Boyd was on hand in Atlantic City to congratulate her after she won. Hopefully she'll have room in her schedule to visit us next year in Las Vegas for the Nat'l convention!!! Congratulations Soror Dunlap!!!! Delta continues to make history!!!! (1st black Miss Florida and 1st Soror to win Miss America) |

But to show you how little I have paid attention to the Miss America pagent (and only watched it this year because of Erika,) I did not even realize, (until I read Lazarus' post) nor could I tell that last year's winner was Black. |

I'm sooooooo late.....
Congrats to Ms. Dunlap and the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta! Believe it or not, I watched the whole thing and had no idea she was a Delta. Now, when she pulled out all of the elephants, I that she could be. I was really impressed with her when they showed a clip of her speaking during her preliminary interview. She was thoroughly impressive throughout the show.
And she was working that yellow dress. It really was the best dress (and I'm not being biased). |

Top Ten Things I Want To Say To All Americans presented by 2004 Miss America Ericka Dunlap (September 22, 2003) 10. "I'd like to say something to all the guys who dumped me...actually, I've never been dumped" 9. "One time I breathed in too much hairspray and thought there was a bear in my house" 8. "Miss Idaho is really Mr. Idaho" 7. "So far this year I have more wins than the Jets" 6. "Even I realize two years from now I'll be working at a boat show" 5. "Turns out scholarship I won is a $50 gift certificate to Circuit City" 4. "Letterman is not better looking in person" 3. "Donald Trump -- stop calling me" 2. "Backstage, I saw Dr. Phil eat an entire chocolate cake" 1. "Schwarzenegger for Governor? Are you people morons?" |
First of all, I join everyone in congratulating my soror on her win. Yes, she wore the H*LL out of that yellow dress so its no wonder she won the evening gown competition!
I thought that Ms Maryland sang a little better in the talent competition, though. The audience booed when she placed third runner up...and rightly so; she should have at least been first runner up. I told my mom that Ms Hawaii was part Black. We kinda joked that we had 3 and a half sisters in the top 10. As for the pageant itself, I am glad they told the viewing audience who won each competition. I could never figure out what the big mystery was in not revealing that information? Anywho, more to come... |
an aside.....
Its unfortunate that many people did not know Miss America 2003 (Erika Harold) was black. Her platform focused on bullying in schools-a personal issue because she stated she was teased terribly as a child for being of mixed parentage. If I remember correctly she is also a Harvard grad and is planning to go to law school. I do remember that after she won a spokesperson from her elementary school claimed they had no record of the bullying ever happening to her (I wonder why) and that was the last I heard of her or her platform until the competition on Saturday....hmmmm....CON-spiracy... ...and while I know Dave is kidding we all know that Ms. Dunlap (2004) will not be on anybody's boat two years from now unless she is chilling on vacation ;) |
Erika Harold's platform had a lot of people talking. She is a big supporter of absteinance(sp). So the Miss America officials asked her to speak more on her original platform of bullying. I am excited about our Sorors platform. I am sure that plenty of people will book her for appearances. She has a long year ahead of her. I hope that the transition to becoming Miss America will be a easy one for her
