We thought we were the first, but we were actually the second when you go by founding dates. IC Sorosis existed at Monmouth at the time, but as someone has pointed out, did not take a Greek letter name until much later. I think our founders were some of the original women's libbers - they wanted something equal to the men and nothing less would do! |
I admit that I'm going on what I memorized more years ago than I care to mention (concerning facts about other sororities). When I get home, I'll dig out my fact book. :)

Actually, there are 5. Phi Kappa Tau was founded at Miami University in 1906 in addition to Beta Theta Pi, Phi Delta Theta, Sigma Chi, and Delta Zeta. The Alpha Chapter of Phi Kappa Tau is still in existance as well. My husband is a Phi Tau, that's the only reason I know. |
Hmmm very interesting.
The Miami Triad, all Fraternitys, or usually the ones listed:SX, PDT, and BTP! I am not really sure about PKT as that would make it a 4 th memeber but not with in the realm of the Miami Triad! PKT Founded in 1906. Somewhat later! Soroitys are New to me, it is a Guy thang. Thanks for pointing this out!:) |
Beta Theta Pi initiated two women in June, 1860, at their Wabash chapter because they were "good Beta girls" and they didn't find anything in their by-laws or constitution preventing it.
SAE's Kentucky Military Institute chapter initiated a woman shortly after the Civil War in gratitude for keeping their records safe during the war. Dr. Charles Richardson, Kappa Sigma, was also a member of Chi Omega. |

Alpha Phi was also the first to have a website!:) |
You mean the letters AS the badge, right?
the greek letters FM have been appearing on the Phi Mu badge since the very first one was created. Our badge, however, is its own shape -- as is ADPi's. So the honor of being the first group to have a badge shaped as greek letters may very well belong to Alpha Phi.... |

Alpha Phi's badge is hot. I especially have a thing for the lazy Phi. Us Phi Mus and you Alpha Phis have something in common! ..... and I thought Meg Ryan was an Alpha Xi Delta? |

Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc. and Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity, Inc. were the first Latino Greek Letter Organizations to be founded on the West Coast. Both were founded at CSU Chico.

I *believe* (someone please correct me if i'm wrong) that Phi Sigma Sigma has the most chapters of any NPC group in the state of New York. We currently have 20!
