OH how did I miss that... Thanks! That is what I get for scanning.

As to the last question... the same question is possed when asked if a woman ran for President... would you vote for her just because she is a woman...

If it is a sister... depends. It would be a heavy factor... I will admit... if it were for a local or state office.

As to my question... because there has NEVER been a female president, unless she was TOTALLY on the otherside of what I stood for... then yes... I would vote for her... just because of her sex.

It does raise the hypothetical question.. would you vote for a Fraternity brother or sister even if they aren't of the same political persuasion that you are?

She was indeed an impressive speaker!

The bonds of sisterhood run deep with me, but I don't think I could vote for a sister if she didn't share my political views.

Hubby and me are in the news, lol.

Our pic was in the local county mag b/c we attended a UWG alumni (ae...too tired to think correctly, lol) party.

I agree with Sandy on both counts!

That is an interesting question...would you mind if I brought that up in the News and Politics room? (Unless you'd rather. :) )

Hmmm, that is a very interesting question! If I was completely indifferent I would vote for a sister, but I'd always have to vote for the person who shared my views first. And I would probably vote for a female presidential candidate as well, unless her views were completely different than my own.

Go ahead!

Sister Havana 11-10-2005 02:27 PM

Done. :)

And just to stay on topic, here's some follow-up on Judy Baar Topinka. She did confirm in a news conference that she is running, although her official campaign kickoff is a couple weeks away.

(She also mentions AGD on her official state treasurer website.) :)

Do we deduct votes if Alpha Gam is mentioned as a Sorority?;

ETA, oops I corrected it. The article mentioned Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority...)

Red and buff roses to Christen Wright and to Gamma Delta!

I was wasting time on Wikipedia tonight and we have a page... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpha_Gamma_Delta

It says that Carolyn Bennett is a Tau... I'd never heard this before! The website doesn't list her as an Accomplished Alpha Gam but it definitely SHOULD.

She is one of the coolest people in Canadian politics, IMO. She was a practicing MD before she went into politics and was the Minister of Public Health under Paul Martin.
She's my MP (same thing as Representative in US Congress), and there's been talk that she'd be a top candidate to take over leadership of the Liberals. Now I really, REALLY hope that happens!

That would be some really cool bragging rights (well in Canadian chapters maybe!) ... first female PM elected in Canada! (there was a female PM before, Kim Campbell, but she was only in power for about four months because the previous PM resigned and she lost the ensuing election...in a nutshell)

If anyone's interested, Bennett's bio is here.

There's a very nice profile of Judy Baar Topinka in this month's edition of Today's Chicago Woman. You can read it here. :)

(Of course, since the Illinois primary elections are coming up later this month, she's been in the news every day!)

AGDee 03-02-2006 12:11 PM

And, I did note, the menu on the website with that article is red and buff and Judy is wearing a green suit :) She sounds like such a great lady and has such great ideas that I think she's one of the few Republicans I would ever consider voting for!

Sister Havana 03-22-2006 10:23 AM

Crashing yet again...Judy Baar Topinka won the GOP nomination for governor in the Illinois primary yesterday. :)

Here are the stories from the Chicago Tribune and the Sun-Times. There's also a picture of her celebrating on the front page of the Sun-Times site, and she's in a couple pictures in the Tribune's election photo gallery.
