Hiding my face in embarassment

I had to call my friends and tell them to watch our fellow black ppl embarass us on cable TV.

The cheerleader girl reminds me of Gabrielle Union

"No Draws" daddy works on campus. A dean no less  Now the whole world will be calling her that. The shame!!! And she needs to wash her mouth out with soap.

I think I like the "snob" girl. So far

Jabari reminds me of this guy I work with. How many times can he say "Uh"??

This is a KUNTRY BUTT SHOW. it is HI- LARIOUS. I'm mad my roommate's not here to join me ROTFL.

ETA: The fight at the club??? Why???
If ND went wild in middle school, so she's calm now? Find your talent????? OH NO!

exquizit 01-28-2004 10:54 PM

I had to ask CT4 if I sound that dayum country!!! I swear this is exactly what I thought it would be, but I was praying for better. I don't like the snob girl because she isn't all that cute to figure she's one of the finest on campus! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

The cheerleader is actuallt a really cool person. She's always been friendly.

WONDERFUL & COUNTRYGURL!!!! Did yall see Avery?? CTHU

CrimsonTide4 01-28-2004 10:56 PM

I came in on the chicks at the club and saw the girl fight. Lawd. The Edmonds saw fit to air this mess?

sphinxpoet 01-29-2004 01:38 AM

Ghetto Fabulous!!!!!! I do not know what was up with that show.......

delph998 01-29-2004 02:11 AM

Ghetto fabulous in an understatement, Sphinxpoet!

This show is sooo degrading!

No draws is STANK!!!! She looks disgusting!

You did see the Delta Crest in that girl's house CT4! I peeped that too.

We'll see how this turns out.

aopirose 01-29-2004 02:52 AM

I saw the Delta crest on the plate too. It was right next to a stuffed elephant.

I am just too embarrassed by ND. There are just somethings in this world that I don't need to know.

I guess SU thought that it was going to be "safe" because the Chancellor got to screen and maybe edit each episode. I don't know.

From the New Orleans Times Picayune TV Focus...

Southern University is ready for its close-up

Sunday January 25, 2004

By Dave Walker, TV columnist

A Stanford University graduate, producer Tracey Edmonds said she picked Baton Rouge's Southern University as the site of the BET network's first "reality" series in part because of Southern's reputation for extracurricular opportunities, including the school's sports teams, marching band and fraternity system.

The strong sense of family displayed by Southern's students was also a factor, she added.

"And also the sense of hope and optimism that comes from these students," said Edmonds, meeting recently in Los Angeles with TV critics. "These are students that come from really impoverished families, who have had to financially struggle to even be at college.

"It's an amazing, moving experience to be around these kids, where education is really so important to them, because (for) a lot of these kids, it's the first time anyone in their family has ever been to college."

Edmonds and her staff interviewed 600 of the more than 1,500 Southern students who applied to appear on the show before picking eight -- four men, four women -- for the final cast.

The final criteria for selection?

"We wanted to pick students that were going to be honest and uninhibited," she said. "And what we ended up with was eight amazing, diverse personalities."

Uninhibited?

That sounds like an invitation to typical reality TV salaciousness.

After all, the show's marketing catch phrase is, "8 Students + 1 Roof = 2 Much Drama."

Not to worry. Edward R. Jackson, Southern's chancellor, gets to screen and perhaps edit "College Hill" before it airs, said Edmonds, to ensure that the university and its students won't be portrayed in a bad light.

The pilot episode of "College Hill" was shot in May, though the bulk of the series' 13 episodes were done during Southern's fall semester, allowing several participants to visit New Orleans for the Bayou Classic. (Edmonds wasn't sure at the time of her meeting with the critics if rights issues will allow the Bayou Classic footage to be used in the series.)

Edmonds' mandate from BET was to capture college life as realistically as possible without injecting typical reality TV contrivances.

"We did not have to manipulate any story lines at all, because things just naturally unfolded and evolved," she said. "Every single day shooting this series, I could not believe the stuff that was just incidentally happening as we were shooting, and that the cameras were catching."

About any of which Edmonds refused to dish.

Preview tapes of "College Hill" weren't made available before this story's deadline, but the cast's makeup seems to promise conflict, an essential for compelling reality TV.

One, a cheerleader, is described in BET publicity materials as a "diva" and "socialite."

Another, a football player, is described as "a jock and a ladies' man."

One is pregnant. Another is a band member.

Other cast members are described, respectively, as "a smooth operator with an ulterior motive," a "wild child," a "spoiled-rotten rich girl" and, last but not least, "an academic genius."

"African Americans throughout television history have begged to see themselves in honest light," added Stephen Hill, BET's senior vice president for programming. "We did not manipulate -- we really just followed."

As an African American and graduate of an HBCU (Florida A & M University ) I find this show to be offensive and embarassing. I'm surprised that Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds and Tracey Edmonds would produce something like this. Also shocking is that Southern University agreed to let this mess be aired. I'm not saying that these situations do not happen @ HBCU's but they happen at all schools. We don't have to exploit it! But once again it's BET..what should I expect!

Unfortunately some people who did not attend an HBCU have a negative sterotype about these schools. They see HBCU's as the three p's. Partying, Pledging and Promiscuity! Why can't we be seen in a different light. HBCU's have alot of positive things going on. Why not focus on that and leave the drama to MTV and the Real World tv show. That's just my .08 cents

RBL 01-29-2004 08:08 AM

I didn't attend an HBCU.. but I am concerned about this show. What in the world was this!!! The production value of this show is horrible. It looks more like a documentary than a actual series. I was not impressed.

Ditto. I was SMH throughout the entire show. :o

I was just too through when I watched the show!! I have never been so completely embarrased and digusted with a TV program. I had my doubts about the show but once I found out that the Edmonds were behind it I decided to give it a chance. After all, Soul Food's a pretty good show, right??

WRONG!!! I was ready to change the channel when the pregnant girl's boyfriend wasn't sure about the baby. The only bright spot was peeping the DST shield at Veronica's house!!

I wanted to pimp slap that Kinda, running around with no underwear on and sneaking into the boy's dorms. Just triflin', I tells ya, just trifling!!! And I was  at the born again dude with 2 girlfriends.

That show made me  . I don't know if I will watch next week!!

kiml122 01-29-2004 10:26 AM

Ok, I saw this show, and it is a HOT AZZ MESS!!!

The dude Jabari, I was saying to myself, if says "uh" just one more time I swear I will scream. What about when he was walking into the dorm, the pregnant chick was like I hope that is not the guy that wears the big shoes because he is crazy. Now when he walked in, why did that fool say that he wears a size 18 shoe, but the shoes are to big. He gets them very big because his feet swell. I mean damn they swell that much?! Ok, and he was just straight country........in the back of my mind all I could hear was Tommy Davidson saying "country drive you crazy" I forget which movie that was from.

The girl that was pregnat, I think her name was Sharondala or something like that. I mean she sounded hella-country, and when the boyfriend ( yes CT4) I saw that damn gold tooth as well said that once he knows 100% that the baby is his, then he will move out of the dorm....I was like what in the hayle!!!!

As for ND, she is a hot mess, and why doesn't her mom find anything wrong with this. The fact that she said they just call her No now is crazy. I mean her dad has no faith in her that she will succeed, and she is just giving him ammunition that she won't. First off, she would never in a millon years be at a school where I was the dean with her scandolous ND's azzself.

Snob girl does live in a very nice house. When I saw her drive off in a Lexus, I was like ok. I didn't peep the Delta crest in the house in the house.

This show is going to be a serious down fall to black people, and how non-blacks view us. I can't believe that Tracy and Face would find this to be entertaining.......this is straight bafoonery...(I know that's not a word...but y'all know what I saying damn it)

Dancerella1908 01-29-2004 10:38 AM

I'm computer challenged...

If someone knows how to post the pictures please do so.

On Bet.com on the College Hill cast page if you click on Veronica their is a picture of her and her mom and on the shelf behind them is an elephant and what looks like a plate w/ the Delta shield on it. I wonder which one of them is a Delta?

Also if you click on the predictions page for College Hill Delano is holding a jacket with a big purple and gold omega symbol on the back w/ the number 16.
