Wasn't it a Kevin Smith movie (Dogma?) that actually had Jay & Silent Bob looking for Shermer, Illinois/Shermer High School b/c they believed it existed as John Hughes' films depicted it? I think when your movie/subject matter becomes fodder for other films, its getting up there with cult status. Being a successful film doesn't preclude a film from being a cult film. And I know so many people who can quote those things....

What has gotten into me? I am terribly opinionated today. I should get off the computer.

I agree . . . I think that because John Hughes movies have lasted beyond their time, they are probably quickly on the road to becoming cult classics. It's one thing for a movie to be successful when it was made, but the fact that almost everybody I know has seen at least a handful of JH movies even though they were made when we were, like, four . . . I think that puts them more in the cult classic status.

Ouch. That hurts. I was in junior high/high school...

OK-someone here at work reminded me of one of the newer soon-to-be cult-classics!!!

OFFICE SPACE!!! If you haven't ever worked in a cubicle farm, you wouldn't get it, but I so love this movie!!! (The middle eastern guy inspired some of my favorite curse words ever!).

MoxieGrrl 04-03-2003 04:33 PM

Yeah!!! Office Space is one of the best! I like when they are playing the rap music and destroying the copier/fax machine thing...hehehehehe

moe.ron 04-03-2003 04:36 PM

What bout any movie with Dolf Lundgroen (sp?, the he-man guy), Michael Dukakif (sp?), Steven Segal (sp?) and those other macho b type actors>

Sorry . . . :) I am a young 'un. But that just proves my point that the popularity of John Hughes movies have lasted longer than most movies.

And Office Space is fantastic.

Arya-What bout any movie with Dolf Lundgroen (sp?, the he-man guy), Michael Dukakif (sp?), Steven Segal (sp?) and those other macho b type actors> Have you seen the program-Movies for men who like to watch movies...or something like that.
Terminator, Predator, The Rocky series they would all kind of go together.

Newer with potential, hmmm I can honestly see Something About Mary if only for that scene---YOU KNOW THE SCENE I'M TALKING ABOUT!:o
Drew Barrymore-Wedding Singer, Never Been Kissed these may be the future Sixteen Candles or Pretty In Pink type movie.

Then, those who like to alter their minds prior to viewing may one day consider Dumb and Dumber a cult classic!

Ok, as for "b" movies, I am not the person to ask. But I can totally list my fave cult films

Rocky Horror
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
I froget what this last one is called but it's about Barberella saving the earth in thigh high boots....

I love Wet Hot American Summer and Office Space, as well as all the JH films, but I think they are jsut good moves, rather than cult classics.
