Queen Latifah arrested on DUI charge
LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Hip-hop star and actress Queen Latifah spent part of Wednesday in jail after being charged with driving under the influence in an early morning traffic stop.
Latifah, whose real name is Dana Owens, was pulled over by officers at 3:15 a.m., said Officer Alex Delgadillo of the California Highway Patrol. He said she was driving a 2003 Cadillac Escalade north on U.S. 101 when she was observed making an unsafe lane change. Several field sobriety tests were conducted, and the performer was arrested and taken to jail. She did not resist arrest in any way and was cooperative with the arresting officers, Delgadillo said. She posted a $2,500 bail and was released from custody with a December 12 court date. Latifah, 32, received a 1994 Grammy for best rap solo performance for "U.N.I.T.Y." She also has starred in TV shows such as "Living Single" and appeared in movies such as "Living Out Loud" and "Brown Sugar." |

Call Me Mr. Lawrence
Comic-turned-actor MARTIN LAWRENCE is letting success go to his head on the Miami set of new movie BAD BOYS 2 by issuing some stringent demands. The funnyman has demanded that the mini-compound that houses the stars' trailers be surrounded by an two-and-a-half metre (eight-foot) fence so as to prevent paparazzi getting unauthorised photos of himself. He has also stipulated that a basketball court be built close to his trailer, that he have his own personal chef, that he be ferried everywhere in a limo and that the crew address him as 'Mr. Lawrence'. The diva-like behaviour is all the more surprising because Lawrence recently claimed he'd stopped being a prima-donna on the advice of his Bad Boys co-star WILL SMITH. Lil' Kim Lays Into Foxy Brown Foul-mouthed rap beauty LIL' KIM has ensured her feud with FOXY BROWN keeps burning, by laying into her hip-hop counterpart with a vicious vengeance. The one-time good friends have been at loggerheads for a number of years and their feuding escalated to an allegedly related shooting in front of New York's HOT 97 radio station last year (01) involving friends of the pair. And although Foxy has long expressed her desires to reconcile with the LADY MARMALADE star, Kim is refusing to budge. She rants, "One thing I need people to know is that we are two totally different artists. When you're nasty and f***ed up to people in this game, it comes back to you. Karma's a mother****er. "And let me tell you something, karma is in the air right now. That s*** is no joke. It starts from the way back." And Kim has also failed to forget another time that she says Brown disrespected her and the JUNIOR MAFIA crew which spawned her at their record signing party, which culminated in guns being drawn. Kim adds, "I have to respect an artist in order to love them. She was one of my favourite rap artists. I liked her. I liked her style. I liked the way she was. I don't believe her no more." Nonetheless, Kim doesn't rule out a reconciliation with Brown as long as she's in control of it all. She says, "Don't come up to me and ask me anything about a THELMA & LOUISE record with that girl. 'Cause it ain't happening and if it does happen, you tell them how it's gonna happen. "It'll be out on QUEEN BEE ENTERTAINMENT and it's after I've sold six or seven million records."   **CT4: HEFFA PUH LEASE** |

On BET.com....
I did see an article in regards to your statement lil sunshine...here it is --
J-Lo Says Her Music 'Not Of Black Origin,' Award Show Claims By Chuck 'Jigsaw' Creekmur, BET.Com Staff Writer Posted September 9, 2002-- Organizers of the UK award show Music Of Black Origins (MOBO) said that Jennifer "J-Lo" Lopez declined to be included in their compilation CD to accompany the award show in October. "We are surprised that she would accept a recent best hip-hop award [at MTV's VMAs] and previous MOBO nominations, but not consider her style of music to be of black origin," a rep for MOBO said to UK paper the Daily Record. The spokesperson continued saying, "A statement from Jennifer Lopez to her UK label states that she doesn't consider her music to be of Black origin." However, according to a representative for J-Lo, the singer may not have been party to the snub as the label may have declined inclusion on the compilation. "The record company acts as the go-between for an artist like Jennifer. They negotiate with the artist and the people making the compilation album," the unnamed rep for the singer said. "It can be very complicated." Regardless, unnamed sources close to the situation are very offended at the multi-faceted entertainer's suggestion that her music is not rooted in an African-American legacy. "No one at MOBO could believe it when J-Lo told them why she didn't want to be on the compilation. If she'd just said she didn't want to be on it, then fine," the source said, "But to claim her music isn't of black origin is a joke." "On what grounds is it Latino music? It's not like she's singing in Spanish," the source said. Organizers cited the singer's collaborations with notable Black artists like Sean "P.Diddy" Combs, rapper Nas, Ja Rule and the singer's one-time use of the N-word. "It will be nice to hear what people like P Diddy, Ja Rule and Nas think of her comments. Without them she probably wouldn't have had so many hits or number one albums," the source said. Rap icon LL Cool J and Aleesha from UK act Mis-Teeq are scheduled to co-host the event, which takes place October 1 in the United Kingdom. Cool J will also perform at the event. At press time, representatives for J-Lo hadn't responded to BET.com's requests for comment. The categories and nominees for the MOBO awards are listed below. Halle Berry
Is on the cover of the December Vogue, wearing a dress from Tom Ford, who designs for Gucci and YSL. I'm glad that Ms. Berry is on the cover, but she should have been on the cover earlier in the year. And as a sidebar, how about putting someone of color on a March or September issue cover?
