Congrats to Delta Delta Delta- Epsilon Psi at Sacred Heart University! 157 new charter members!

Phi Gamma Delta has been banned at the University of Connecticut. The university has stated that the fraternity has been “permanently separated from the university with no opportunity to return in the future as a recognized student organization,”.

The university stated this happened after a hazing event in February 2020.

Pi Beta Phi at Washington University in St Louis has voted to relinquish their charter in conjunction with the Abolish Greek Life movement on that campus.

Oh, that's rough. Especially being so close to Headquarters. (As a side note, I cried when my chapter voted to relinquish their charter after years of numbers issues, so I can imagine how alums of that chapter feel right now)

Theta Phi Alpha had their “Opening Weekend “ (colonization) at Ottawa University. The Interest Group had some set backs during its process to become a colony.

What would your IHQ do in this situation? Give those members who want to dissolve the chapter alumni status and recolonize?

And what’s going on with Abolish Greek Life movement at Wash U?

AnchorAlumna posted the story in this thread: http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...=247322&page=5

https://www.studlife.com/news/2020/1...es-to-disband/

The article was quoted as saying:

Quote:

Grand President of Pi Beta Phi’s national organization, Marla Neely Wulf, expressed disappointment over the chapter’s decision to close.

“The decision of Missouri Beta collegiate members to close the chapter is met with great sadness by Grand Council,” Neelly Wulf said. “Walking away from Pi Beta Phi membership means diminishing the collaborative coalition of women who have, for decades, made change together.”
I guess it's not really clear as to whether the org is going to allow this to happen.

They can just accept the members’ self-terminations and refuse to close the chapter, then recolonize. There is a time frame but not sure what it is.

Initiated students who desire dissolution of their sorority don't need alum status. If you dislike your sorority and what it allegedly promotes and stands for, you don't take alum status in hopes of eventually fixing what you see as wrong. That would be the hard way out. And, you certainly don't ask for a Participation Cup as a memento of your undergraduate sorority membership service.

Pi Beta Phi will close their chapter at Willamette University effective the end of the Fall 2020 semester. Per Pi Phi's National website, "Low occupancy was illustrating a negative future financial impact on member affordability and chapter finances".

The website states that they are closing their chapter facility, but the chapter itself is not closing.
