Last I checked, AEPhi only recognizes blood relations as legacies. :(

HeavenslilAngel 04-09-2002 01:45 AM

I'm not a legacy but i have 2 aunts on my mom's side (my mom is the oldest of 3) the older aunt was a Sigma at the school I go to and the younger Aunt was an ADPi. I'm the only greek in my immediate family though.

ladybug1116 04-09-2002 10:25 AM

I'm also the first Greek in my family (as far as I know) Has anyone noticed that there are a lot of GCers who aren't legacies?

My aunt rushed at Auburn back in the early 80s and received a bid to Alpha Gam but then declined. My younger sister rushed at University of Alabama this fall but dropped out. Oh well. I have several cousins though so I'll be promoting Greek Life to them when it's time :)

AOIIBrandi 04-09-2002 10:45 AM

AOII's definition of Legacy:

•A l e g a c y is defined as a biological or
adopted daughter, gr a n d d a u g h t e r, or sister
of an initiated membe r, alive or deceased,
of any chartered A O II ch a p t e r. Half-sisters
or step relations are also included if the
relation to the AOII m e m ber has been a
close one.

My connections are really monotonous

Mom - Alpha Xi Delta
Mom's 1st cousin - Alpha Xi Delta
Sister - Alpha Xi Delta
Niece - Alpha Xi Delta

None of the males were Greek, so my son isn't a legacy anywhere...

Here's Alpha Xi's legacy policy:

A legacy is the granddaughter, daughter or sister of an Alpha Xi Delta member. This includes half-sisters or step relations. Alpha Xi Delta college chapters are not required to pledge every legacy, but they are obligated to give each legacy special attention and careful consideration during recruitment.

Mom- Kappa Alpha Theta (at Univ. of vermont)

SigKapSunDevil,
That's interesting. Was it difficult going through rush as a double leg to Theta? Were they at ASU when you went through rush?

I'm the first woman in my immediate family. My cousin is a ZTA and her daughter is a KD. I'm an AGD. My older brother is a SigEp.

SigKapSundevil 06-04-2002 06:37 PM

Actually, i always planned to be a Theta, I even visited the ones in my home town with my mom when I was in high school . When I was a freshman, I didn't find out about rush until it was already started (I got stuck living in some dorms across campus away from all the freshman dorms so I didn't always know what was going on). Then in the spring, I asked around and found out theta didn't have informal rush. A girl on my floor was a member of sigma kappa and I kept seeing signs for rush parties with them. She ended up bringing me to a rush party and I accepted their bid. I was going to wait for formal rush, but I had such a great time that I decided to become a member. The thetas have a great reputation on our campus, but I am really glad that I ended up in Sigma Kappa. The friends and memories that I have now can never be replaced.

My grandparents were Zeta Phi Beta Sigma, and my grandfathers side is almost ALLLLL ZphiB and Phi Beta Sigma.

GPhiSweetiePie 07-20-2002 03:48 PM

Here's my list of connections...

Dad: Phi Kappa Theta (Louisiana State University, ended up dropping out after a couple of years because he was so busy with school and 2 jobs)
Sister: Kappa Alpha Theta (Purdue University)
Cousin: Alpha Chi Omega (University of Houston)
Cousin: Alpha Chi Omega (Stephen F. Austin University)
Boyfriend: Legacy for Sigma Alpha Epsilon...he'll be rushing this fall, but he doesn't know where yet...I'll keep you guys posted...lol, and any Purdue (male) greeks on GC that are interested in a great PNM, let me know and I'll give you his info :)

HotDamGam 07-20-2002 04:32 PM

Just out of curiousity, why are people mentioning boyfriends with their legacy listings?

GPhiSweetiePie 07-20-2002 10:42 PM

hehe...well, I know he's not family (yet...lol) but unlike a lot of people that seem to be responding to this, I don't have a lot of greeks in my family, so I thought I'd just add him to the list. Besides, I think I'm more excited about him rushing than he is :)

No true female legacies. just cousins in DZ (U. of Houston) and Kappa (U. of Texas). But....my oldest is an AOPi and the next 2 will rush in a year. Our 4th daughter doesn't want them to pledge Pi Phi or AOPi but rather 2 more sororities so that she, the queen, can possibly go to a bunch of prefs someday and truly choose the one she likes best since sororities are required to put legacies at their pref parties on the first bid list!

We think it'll be hysterical if our ninth daughter ends up a legacy to 9 different sororities!

OH MY GOSH!! Candy, I had no idea you had 9 kids!!

Bless you!! Im gonna have to do alot more recs I think!!

HotDamnImAPhiMu 07-25-2002 01:52 PM

I'm not a legacy to anything -- my family was very anti-Greek. If/when I have kids though I'm definately going to support them rushing... joining a sorority has been a huge boon for me.

Additionally... my dad's an AKL, which he's always cautious to promote as "not a real fraternity." We have them on campus here, though, and they sure seem like a real fraternity. I noticed they're not on the boards though. What's up?

(NINE kids?!?!)
