I don't have a problem with Greek Week shirts or with Crush party shirts or Philantropy shirts that are either bought or given out when you are a date or partcipating in that event, you pay for it when you register for the event. But I do have a problem with non-memebers,inavtices,girlfriends,sweethearts and just random people wearing letters. It burns me up. I worked hard for those letters and fro someone else to just randomly wear them, I can't handle it. I won't even let my daughter wear my active jacket or my sweatshirt, eventhough it's never been a problem with my sorority. I've been in line at fast food restaurants and seen girls wearing a Sig Chi , Sig Ep or a DTD LETTERED shirt and can hear them just talking so much bad stuff about the brothers and the org as a whole. IT MAKES ME SOOOO MAD. I hate it.
To me, if your not in the org don't wear the letters. |
Here's a suggested for unwanted, outgrown, etc. GLO clothes, trinkets, etc....ask a collegiate chapter if they want them.

People wearing our letters
I only like to see initiated sisters wearing our letters, though our sweetheart is allowed to wear our letters and that is fine too! but if I saw any other male wearing them i would probably be upset. I am also the sweetheart of Alpha Phi Delta on my campus, and wear their letters with pride. All of those guys know me and treat me as if I was their little sister. On our campus fraternity men sometimes lavalier a girl if their is plans to marry them, and then they are permitted to wear thier letters. And sweethearts on our campus work a little differently than they do on most I've discovered. I always get asked which brother I'm dating when I say I'm a sweetheart, but on our campus if you are sweetheart you are not allowed to be dating one of the brothers because as sweetheart you are supposed to love all the brothers the same. So basically when voted sweetheart that is the fraternity's way of saying you are like their favorite girl on campus.....So that is why it is a HUGE honor for me to be able to the wear the Alpha Phi Delta Letters!

Actually, what I ended up doing was to give him some of my old tee-shirts and also show him the two jerseys. I told what they were, when I got them, why they were special, and that I couldn't give them to him because he is not a member of the Fraternity, but that I would let him wear them for now. His answer was "maybe when I'm in college I will join that club (as he calls it), and then you can give them to me." Mission accomplished! Then he asked me about the colors ("are these the colors for the club?") and we talked about the funny letters -- he thought the word "Alpha" was much funnier than the "Phi." |
