This is an interesting thread and I wonder when potentials, interest, or whatever we are calling them these days take a clue, use common sense, wise up and do their homework (research).
I haven't come across any potentials that are struggling to understand the full meaning of Greekdom but you folks have some stories that could help a potential avoid the drama. Serioussigma22:cool: |

Who are you telling!!!! :D I remember right after our induction, they told us to go 'head and do the call. All three of us stood there like deer in headlights! |

But, on another note, I had an interest approach me at the mall & share her desire for membership...she even went so far to say that she had several cousins who are members and that she had been interested since a young child...then she made the WRONG MOVE and said, "I like y'all, y'all are cool, y'all colors are nice, but y'all take too long to take a line, the Delta's take a line every year and they are running the yard." *blank stare* I was with one of my best friends (a Delta) when this conversation took place and even she had a blank stare. |
a friend of mines made this very crucial mistake...
telling people she was "guaranteed" a spot to cross into. practically every member of her family was an XYZ and she made it well known that someone had promised her a spot... needless to say, that spot somehow vanished when it was time to cross. |
I'm at a store wearing my nalia and a girl comes up to me and says
Girl: "Oh you are S-G-Rho" Me: Yes and do I know you? Girl: No I just saw your shirt, I heard yall crossed 2 lines me: Yeah Girl: Are you going to cross any line at XYZ me: I am sure you'll hear something sooner or later Girl: Well I really am interested in membership because I really like blah blah blah blah and blah blah blah blah at this point I am like ok she seem cool  but the train stopped there Girl: I used to always want to be (insert D9 sorority) but them girls are so stuck up and they are not all that me:  well I gotta go and good luck with school.. Putting down one of my D9 sisters is NOT going to get you in... |

Nor is sucking up to me like I'm a goddess or something is not going to get you in either. My advice: JUST BE NORMAL. BE YOURSELF!!! That's the best thing I can tell you. If you can't do either of those things then I can't help you. |

When will prospects learn that D9 members communicate with each other?! |

this takes me back. . .
never say anything that would suggest that you just KNOW that you are getting in.

I was schooled in the door on proper etiquette ….:)but I did say at a Social before I became a member I couldn’t wait :eek:to get the receipt to the Sigma Punch…then I was schooled some more…:)

I was at my little brother'ss Senior Night and as we were lining up to walk across the court, I heard that sweet OO-OOP.
So I turn my head and eagerly look for my beloved Soror, with no luck... so I follow the sound and find myself in a group of high schoolers. I walk over thinking perhaps one of them is an alum, just crossed, and is showing off for her girls. Me: Is my Soror around here? Girls:  Me: I heard MY sorority call. Girls: Ohhhhh....lol, naw, we're not Deltas yet...but we will be. My brother: Awwwwwwwwww shoot it's on. Fam, don't kill 'em. :p Me: *in a very polite, yet stern, tone* Well ladies, I would suggest that you focus on your Senior night and hs/college education, and leave MY sorority call to MY SORORS. Girls: Oh okay, *nervous giggles*:o My brother: Eh man, what school ya'll going to? Girls: Howard, Spelman and OHIO STATE. dun-dun-dun. |
^^WOW!!!
I'm working with middle school kids now who just LOVE 'Stomp the Yard', so they've been doing the calls of the NPHC orgs non stop thinking 'it's cool cause they do it in Stomp the Yard' Back to the topic, I prob would've spent more time with the bros, I didn't go to their community services because they interfered with my own, I really didn't see them on campus since I commuted and was on the main campus and they were not, I went on keeping my interest through the website and the events they put on (I prob should've used the time after the event(s)) to get to know em but they would end too late for me to be sticking around school just for kicks). My friends who are members of ABC sorority actually got me interested in them, I prob shouldn't have told them "Yup, I wanna do this", just take their advice learn about the org and keep your mouth shut. I CANNOT stand when interests come up to me badmouthing other orgs and expect to get brownie points  that isn't going to help you no way no how, so drop it  In the era of facebook and myspace, I would suggest folks not writing in the walls/comments of people's pages saying they are interested in joining their org (Yes, I've seen this been done alot  ). I am also hoping, but have a feeling I will soon see, people are not making fb groups or are publicly trying to raise money to pay for any type of fees, I can just see it now, a student going to the front of the room announcing to their classmates that they're trying to get money to get into ABC org and if they can possibly donate dough to make it a reality :eek::p |
