TLC Looks to Replace Left Eye on TV

Posted June 29, 2004 -- Since the 2002 death of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, the pop group TLC has been struggling to regain the spotlight. That may change if a new FOX reality show surrounding the now two-member group gets off the ground.
The proposed idea, which Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas have already agreed to, will see singers compete to become the third member of the group.

I'm kinda mad at them about this. They made such a big deal about how they were not going to replace Lisa and how people where coming up to them after she died and told them that they could rap and wanted to be part of the group. They sounded very upset, but now I quess they need $$$$$$. Oh Well....

The part that disgusts me most is not that they are replacing her, but that they're capitalizing off of her death by participating in a reality show. I bet if they didn't stand to gain monetary rewards, they wouldn't consider it. I think it's just a bit tacky.

They need to let that go. They will end up like En Vogue. Their shyt won't sell!

You know what, maybe Left Eye was right all that time. They should have ventured out and tried stuff on their own, opened a company, something. I heard Supernova was a really good CD. Plus, I think because of Left Eye's public drama that a lot of people could relate to her so they brought the TLC CD. I know a whole bunch of girls who totally understood what LE was going through when she burned down Dre's house. She was trying to tell them, but they did not listen. She did make the group. I like Chilli and T-Boz, but something drew you to LE. Please remember they did not make that much money over the ten years they recorded or they did not save very well.

Well, I know I won't be purchasing there effort.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - UPN has teamed with the remaining members of TLC, Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas, for a reality series aimed at resurrecting the famous 1990s trio that was struck by tragedy in 2002 when member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes died in a car crash.

They don't really need to replace Left Eye.. they need to get in the studio as TLC and keep it moving... when you really look at it (song wise) they can still make it. Creep, Unpretty, No Scrubs, Red Light Special, Baby Baby Baby were all hits without Left Eye on the track. Replacing Left Eye will alienate fans and contradict the groups "keep it real" attitude after they swore to never replace her. I know this is probably about money but they can make it without replacing a core member like Left Eye

I'ma hafta go ahead and echo that. I mean, really. BAD BAD IDEA. She's irreplaceable. Why even go there?

It's supposed to be TEMPORARY(the replacement), So, my questiion is....WHY EVEN GO THERE? (publicity? money? money? money?)

Exactly...yes Left Eye was vital to the group's image and publicity, but she did little for the actual recordings. She was the rapper of the group and there were plenty of songs that didn't have a rap on them. Better yet, some radio stations didn't play the rap and they still sold albums. They should just stick to the 2 of them...this is a horrible move. They'll become a joke.

*Sigh*. I don't care what their reasoning is, or their excuses, you cannot replace Left Eye. End. Of. Story. And for that matter, could you IMAGINE being on the other side of it - - having the unmitigated GALL to think you could could fill her shoes??? UGH!!!!!!!

Okay, so I just read the article - - and WTH is going on????!!! "The upcoming UPN reality show with the surviving members of TLC is a tribute to their fans, not a search for a new member to replace Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes....". What??? Then HC they're going to record a song and do a show and so on and so forth? And the group is temporary?? Hayle, I don't know what's going on.............................................. *SMH*
