R. Kelly indicted on 21 counts of child pornography. Read all about...
http://www.cnn.com/2002/SHOWBIZ/Mus...elly/index.html |
All that I can say is that everything that one does in the dark will surely come to the light of day! R. just had too much that said: "guilty"...the tape, the settled lawsuits, the continuous allegations. His story seems to be one of contradictions...something that Steeltrap and others have pointed out. He was a musical genius, but had a twisted view of intimacy. I liken R. to a modern day Mozart...because Mozart, too, was associated with sexually exploiting minors (boys).
Now as far as his continuing to lean toward Christianity in all of this....he's being talking about it for a long time. On the album R. Kelly he had a song called "Trade in my Life". In that song, he spoke of how there are so many pressures and that eventually, that he wanted to trade in his life for the Lord. He continued to say that at various times....remember he had talks with Kirk Franklin...and at one point it was said that he was only going to record Gospel CDs. But it seemed as if he could never let go of his lifestyle, nor the "loot" associated with it. He wouldn't sell out for the cause of Jesus Christ. It seemed as if he were continually torn...and I'm sure in retrospect, he wishes that he took his own advice...and traded in his life. I think that perhaps his initial desire to move toward gospel and Christianity may have come up as a result of his first set of charges. And, his return may be much of the same. Its always interesting that people run throughout life without making a heavenly connection..but as soon as things get a bit "interesting"...they begin to come back to the church. Why not do that sooner than soon? |
Rra and Amadeus
Nikki25,
Good post. It would have never occurred to me to compare Rra w/Mozart, but now I see the musical twisted-genius connection. He is a walking contradiction, in many ways. And I agree that it would make sense to keep the church as a consistent part of your life, rather than running back and forth. |
hmmmm
Am I the only one who is a little :o at the charges he is being indicted for? Child pornography? Hello, what about child molestation? Statuatory rape? I mean what's really going on? I hope that these are just the first round of charges and that prosecutors plan to use these charges as a jumping off point.

Mrs. Kelly
Just had a baby last week. I bet that was one stressful pregnancy. In the Sun Times they say that if R. was entertaining in his house, his wife had to knock on the door before entering. If I gotta knock in my own home, I'm taking all the doors down. They also mentioned he couldn't read well and knew very limited math, had his sister on the payroll as his maid and really didn't want to pay his mother's doctor bills even though he put on the facade of loving her so much and how she was the world to him.

Unsurprising that he was basically illiterate, however.  |
He didn't sound too smart during his interview. Not all surprised tah he is close to illiterate.
As for his wife, did she really consider herself a real wife? Sounds more like a third world kept woman. |
(CNN) -- Chart-topping R&B star R. Kelly has been indicted on child pornography charges based on a videotape police said shows Kelly having sex with an underage girl, officials announced Wednesday.
An Illinois grand jury charged Kelly with 21 counts of child pornography based on the videotape, which police said was recorded sometime between November 1997 and February. Investigators said the girl depicted in the video was born in September 1984, which would make her 17 now. Chicago Police Superintendent Terry Hillard said FBI evidence technicians have examined the videotape and consider it authentic. "It's unfortunate to see Mr. Kelly's talents go to waste, but it becomes a tragedy when behavior damages the community," Hillard said. Kelly was not in custody Wednesday afternoon, Chicago police said. An attorney for the Grammy-winning singer said his client is currently out of town, and will present himself to police "whenever and wherever" they tell him to. EXTRA INFORMATION Backgrounder: R. Kelly RESOURCES EW.com: All about R. Kelly If convicted, Kelly -- whose first name is Robert -- faces a prison term of up to 15 years and a fine of up to $100,000. His lawyer, Ed Genson, said he would disprove the child pornography charges. "The charge is that there's a young lady under the age of 18 on that tape and there isn't," Genson told The Associated Press. "That's simply the stance that I'm taking. We're going to court and we'll disprove that she was underage." The girl's family members also have denied that she is featured on the video, Genson said. The Chicago Sun-Times received the videotape earlier this year. The newspaper passed the tape along to the sex crimes unit of the Chicago Police Department, which investigated. Illinois law prohibits producing or disseminating child pornography or soliciting a minor to participate in sex acts on tape or film. Hillard warned that anyone who has bought or is selling copies of the tape is in possession of child pornography. "It would be my advice to you to dispose of these tapes," he said. Cook County State's Attorney Richard Devine said the sex acts on the video occurred in Kelly's home in Chicago. "The indictments hopefully will send a message to sexual predators ... [that] taking advantage of minors will not be tolerated and there are severe penalties," he said. The Grammy-winning Kelly is known for inspirational hits such as "I Believe I Can Fly," but also raunchy ones like "Feelin' On Yo Booty." He has also worked as a producer with Celine Dion, Michael and Janet Jackson, and the Isley Brothers. Kelly has said he has not seen the video. Last month, speaking on the BET cable program "BET Tonight with Ed Gordon," he denied various allegations involving the tape. "I want America to know that you can't believe everything you hear, and nowadays, you can't believe everything you see," he said. "I've done a lot of wrong things in my life, but I'm not a criminal, I'm not a monster." Kelly has previously settled lawsuits brought by two women who accused him of having sex with them when they were minors. Documents have also shown that Kelly married the late singer Aaliyah, his former protege, when she was just 15. The marriage was later annulled. A third lawsuit was filed recently by a Chicago woman who accused Kelly of impregnating her when she was a teen-ager and forcing her to have an abortion. Kelly is married to a former dancer from his touring troupe. The couple have a newborn son and two young daughters. |
It looks like they found him in Florida and he has been arrested
