Hello sorors,

I must say that I am a little disappointed that sorors were not feeling that step on BET.

My chapter personally did that step "Its a fine time" back in 98 for a stepshow competition and won!!!! :D

I thought that the sorors who did the show, (who I know personally), did a FABULOUS job. They had lots of enthusiam, enunciated every word, and were very precise in their show.
Compared to the AKA team, there was no doubt in my mind that sorors rocked that show! They had me oo-ooping and throwing up signs in the hair salon :D

We also have to consider that sorors had like only 2 minutes to impress everyone. There clearly wasnt enough time to do other steps that would have been more "lady-like". Whats wrong with sorors getting down and rocking a step that would get everyone hype instantly????

Thats just my 4 cents :)

I guess it's all in what one is used to and what one prefers. And I am used to and prefer the more feminine style of stepping and having more of a Delta feel to our steps than an Omega style. After all, we are ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. But again, I guess it's whatever one is used to ;).

At the college where I pledged and graduated, all four of the sororities did the quick head snapping, hair flipping stepping (if you understand what I mean). However, while they were cute, they still stepped hard and sharp. Again, I had just never seen Deltas step like that before, so I was a little taken aback.

In our coming out show, ONE of our few ways of doing the Greek Alphabet was done in an Omega type style but that was kind of a salute to them. I mean, we can have love for the bruhs. But as far as step shows where, of course, each organization is there to represent itself, I just would prefer for Deltas to represent Delta and let Omegas represent themselves.

But other than the opening, I liked everything else that the Sorors did on BET :).

but...

did we win????

BLUTANG 05-03-2002 09:31 AM

1Babygirl2000, you mean the show at GW? i'm about to P.M. you...

crimsinqt_dst 05-03-2002 11:00 AM

Why did I want to jump a flight to NY?

I taped our BREATH TAKING performance on BET, and I was shocked to see Free acting up like that. I met her briefly while she was in Detroit (come to think of it, it was during our Statewide Founders Day!)She seemed very sweet, and she definately showed me love (maybe because I had on pere').In retrospect, I relize that she reconized greatness standing before her and she lost herself in the moment. But she was still wrong. By the way..we DID win right?!

Metamorphosis 05-03-2002 11:49 AM

stillwater15 05-03-2002 02:49 PM

ok, fine, we won, but i sure hope sorors come w/something better than a dedication to the men of omega for half of their performance. i'd rather see "89 years ago..." for a minute than "it's a fine time..."

the more and more i think about this step-off and it boggles my mind that the divine 9 actually decided to participate. this step-off is a joke.

my last free comment. if she even looks like she wants to throw up a pyramid... will a soror please grab her by the afro and set her straight?

SAY THAT!!!:o

FYI Sigmas won last night and the Alphas won from the other night. So the showdown next week will be

SIGMAS vs. ALPHAS
DELTAS vs. _____________

Concerned Neo

Sorors,
I would like to comment on a recent observation. I viewed the discussion on other message boards (the Bruh's for instance) and I can understand having pride in your organization (personally, I haven't stop smilling since I crossed!)But why is it that so much shade is cast by other organizations because we won the first round?

Another thing... does it take a nationally televised step-show to get people to be excited in their organization? I sat and thought about how many people watching at home who were MIA from their organizations, haven't paid a due since.... and the only way they'll do some community service is if it was by court order. I may be a NEO with sand still in my boots, but I just wanted to say that.

Forgive me, CrimsonTide4

OK, Free needs an open-handed pimp slap followed by a backhanded slap. Violence is not the answer, but she needs some real deal discipline.

I did not see AJ correct her, but I assumed that he would since he claimed his mother was Delta on national television. (Didja know 106 & Park gets higher ratings than MTV's TRL? That means a lot of people saw everything.) I fell out laughing when I saw her do the pyramid on Wednesday because I didn't think she would be crazy enough to do it again. I was offended when she did it for the second time, but I know I'm ticked at hearing that she did the AKA call and had her pinky out. Somebody needs to school her. I don't care what kind of celebrity you are...respect our organizations! And there has to be one Greek that works on the staff. Get on your jobs!

BTW, I missed who it was, but I feel you that this is a ratings getter. Is it just a coincidence that the step off is during the first part of May Sweeps? Hell to the naw!

Lastly, congrats to Delta Sigma Theta for winning. I respectfully have to agree with the other Deltas who wanted to see something else besides Omega steps from Deltas. They were definitely krunk, energetic, and clearly audible. I've seen Deltas step like ladies, and they wreck shop, ie Sigma chapter at CAU winning mad shows this past year.

You can talk about her all you want.

Actually she did an OOO OOP with a pinky:mad:   but umm err yeah it is DEFINITELY not a coinky dink -- May Sweeps/Step Off.

Soror Crimsinqt hit it right on the head. The BET MEssage board has 67 pages of back and forth among members of D9, non Greeks battling on several non critical issues: who steps the best, whose bond is tighter, whose orgs almost pledged another org, etc. This message board (BET) has only further divided us as a race over STEPPING.

No matter who wins or loses, all of our orgs have missions and objectives that still need to be accomplished. Let's spread the word that the OMEGAS want to register 500,000 voters by the end of 2002. Let us all be about our ORGS' business. However, I would like to add to our Educational Development thrust: EDUCATE FREE on Delta Etiquette.:o :p

Ahhh, jojapeach. So you know what I mean in my previous posts regarding a Delta style of stepping. Interesting you noted Sigma chapter (CAU) as that is where I pledged :D. That is the style of stepping I am used to.

kizzie22 05-03-2002 05:11 PM

Crimson Tide4, I totally agree with you on ALL of this greek bashing going on BET's message board. They need a moderator to clean house. That site is worse than simply greek and I didn't think anything could be as bad as that site. I have never in my 8.5 years of greekdom seen sooo much dissing as I have seen on BET's message board. I guess you could say I 've encountered a "greek culture shock". :o :D

BET Step OFF

I have been following the step off and would just like to give my opinion on the one's who I think are the best:

Iota Phi Theta-vs-Phi Beta Sigma........The Sigmas!!

Alpha Phi Alpha-vs-Kappa Alpha Psi.....The Alphas!! (BTW: WTH were the Kappas doing!! At the end when they did that "mirror" thing I was just like  What was that? (<~no disrespect, I just didn't understand that part.)

Delta Sigma Theta-vs-AKA.....The Deltas!!! Though I do give props to the AKA's for steeping in high heels and dresses. That was amazing but the Deltas were HYPE!! I was like "Woah!!!" :D
A.J. was right....after that performance you lwomen made a lot of ladieswant to "pledge."

Phi Beta Sigma-vs-Omega Psi Phi...I think it's a tie. Both were great. The Sigmas were creative (that stepping and laying on the floor was cute!) But the Ques were hype...once again I was like "Woah!!" But I believe the Ques will be chosen to come back.

Innocence22 05-03-2002 05:46 PM

Free

By the way I did see Free hold up the Delta Sign...I was just like  ...They let her get away with that?!! I was waiting for someone to call this to her attention but it didn't happen. She did it twice yesterday. Once when she was talking on stage beside A.J. and the 2nd on the performance stage but she referred to it as "the roc." A lot of people (that I know) freely do it (because of Jay-Z) and I tell them, you really don't know what that stands for and I tell them it's "DST"s sign" and they usually tell me that "yall (DST) don't own it." I think it's disrespectful if you are not in the organization to throw it up.

her straight?

For those of you who are bitter about how the Deltas stepped, realized that they did it because THEY KNEW THAT IT WOULD BRING THEM VICTORY!! They achieved their goal. They know that they needed to be different and they knew that they had to come hard. In the finals, I am sure that they will revert to more "Delta" like steps.

PS: what can be better than winning? Losing perhaps? We kept it real and lost to the professional, greek potpourri, faux chippendale, Color Me Badd, E. Lynn Harris coverboy Unknown Stepteam.
