No that is not how it works. Open bids/COB, YES.

Snap bids - NO.

Read the quote from the Green book I posted. Snap bids happen in the hours after Preference, before the PNMs go to open their bids. That's how it works. Any time after bid opening, if a chapter didn't achieve quota, they can continue to bid up to quota, even if they are over total.

Yes. Snap bids are given in such a way that very few people know who got a snap bid and who did not, because the snap bid is extended before bids are given out and the recipient gets her bid when all the other PNMs do and they all trek off to bid day festivities together and none the wiser, as it should be.

And the reason that some houses might be COB-ing right now is because sometimes when a SRC has to release sooooo many PNMs at the beginning of the week, they miss the mark on bid day and want to fill those few spots. I take it that you were rejoicing because some girls who did not receive bids have another chance, AGDmommy?

It's different than Continuous Open Bidding (COB). ETA: you don't "sign up" for snap bids.

Some houses fill quota, then they have girls that drop out as soon as their get their bid or after bid night. Then they will call other girls are offer them a snap bid. I'm not 100% with how it works because my house doesn't do them, but that's what they are called here regardless if that is a technical term or not.

^ I believe they are technically COBs BUT a lot of people get confused with the terminology and call them 'snap bids'. Like if it happens within a day or two of bid day, everyone calls them 'snaps' even though they're really not.

UGAactive 08-23-2015 10:46 AM

Again, it's not a technical term. That's just what we call it here regardless if it is correct or not. We refer to COB as when we do a small recruitment with actives meeting PNMs, but we refer to snap bids when a girl is just called without meeting people and offered a bid.

No, it is not a snap bid. Despite your insistence, or what your campus does, it is not. It's not the correct terminology. Saying it doesn't make it okay. The change will come from the advisors/leadership using the correct terminology.

Whatever.

We now have a happy new member of a wonderful chapter at UGA! Maybe one day I will post her story, but for now I will stay quiet!

Glad to hear that your PNM found her home!

I never said it was the correct terminology. I'm not arguing with you. I'm just explaining how we use it here. I don't really think it's a big deal.

FSUZeta 08-23-2015 04:59 PM

It is a big deal. Someone not familiar with the local lingo might not understand that the incorrect terminology is at UGA only and get confused. That is why we are so nit picky.
