This is a perfect example of how sorority rush in all its glory is just not the same from one place to another. I personally think you'd have a better chance at Alabama without recs than you would at Texas. Not that I would recommend foregoing them at either school.

I think that the "good old girl" network of the past is diminishing-we can look to Bama's bid list and see that women from all over the country are receiving bids there.

WHITE women from all over the country are receiving bids there. I know that this year was marginally better than last, as far as diversity goes, but if AA women make up 12% of the student body and a fraction of a percentage of women participating in recruitment, there are most certainly great women being overlooked.

While that's true, those women also have NPHC options and it can sound a bit like we're saying the best black girls would WANT to be in NPC sororities. The better statistic might be percentage of affiliated women, not just NPC affiliates.

SOME of this has to come from the unpledged women. Just because someone might make a great sorority member, doesn't mean they have to become one.
At some point, a student who knows nothing about Greeks at her school is going to encounter the system. They can ask questions, do some research and decide either "that's for me" or "I'm staying far, far away."
But the first decision originates with them...not the sororities or the way they recruit.
