I've never harassed anyone, buying or selling on E-Bay, through e-mail. However, I've had several people become very rude with me whenever I've sent an inquiry to them asking if they are a DZ when they're bidding on a badge. One woman in particular got extremely defensive with me. Let's just say she was NOT a nice person!

As some of my Brothers know Corb. I bid on something LXA. I also kept in touch with 2 other brothers who bid and also did not receive. It is not so much the money but I wqs going to donate to the Chapter. Well wrote check and did not get. E-M e-bay and all they said they were changing there policy!
I am like the rest of you and do not like to see my Badge on e-bay. If I could afford, I would buy to keep in the family.
Steve I saw that badge and thought of you! Go Bro!! They do not even make mine anymore an I am damn proud to have it. White gold, pearls and blue stones with pearl guard,!!!!!
It will be going to the Zeta, Bank on it!

Sorry, shadokat, i definitely thought you were serious and it had me really pissed off. My bad! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

It really does bother me that people take matters into their own hand with people who are bidding on an item. I know that if anyone ever emailed me asking me not to bid, i might be rude to them. They don't really have a right to tell me what to do. Just my opinion.

There's no reason to be rude to someone asking you not to bid. What if, for instance, your grandmother's wedding band, engraved with her initials was stolen years ago and suddenly it pops up for bid on E-bay? Wouldn't you want to ask folks to please not bid so that you could get it back??? Asking isn't telling. All the person has to do is politely refuse the request.

At any rate, I certainly don't see the harm in asking someone if they are a member of the organization whose badge they are bidding on. I'm not TELLING them not to bid, I'm just asking if they are a DZ. One reason I do it is to make sure that I'm not going to be bidding against a sister.

It's the pin collectors who have been rude to me when I've asked. Especially the one collector who I e'm'd recently. She told me that I had no #@$% business asking who she was -- a response that was completely uncalled for since my inquiry was worded very politely. All I did was introduce myself, say hello, and ask if she was a Delta Zeta sister as well.

Just wanted to let you all know that the auction for the very old D Phi E pin that was on ebay ended, and our sister didn't win. The pin went for $621.00!!! I am amazed that someone who just collects pins would pay this much money. Apparently the person who won is a big collector and has paid big bucks for lots of pins. I was reviewing their positive feedback comments and all of the auctions they won were for old fraternity and sorority pins.

Oh well...what can you do?

Sorry to hear about that, shadokat! I hate it when the good guys don't win out!

Well, just to inform you, I was bidding on the LXA Badge from Rose-Hulman to keep it from getting into the wrong hands! I E-M the other bidder and found it was a Brother from R-H. My Main regret was that I bid it up more and am hoping he gets it to keep it where it belongs. As I have said all along, I worked to hard to get My Badge and when I die I and the Brothers of my Chapter know where it is to go!!

I'm an Alpha Phi Omega alumnus and I try to bid on most of the historical stuff on Ebay. (The stuff like the new hat where they will put your name on it is useless).

Alpha Phi Omega is different from most of the social greeks in that the official pin that a brother receives at initiation (and the pledge pin given at pledging) are both *super* cheap - $4 at last check. There are Jeweled pins that are official that can be bought from the national office, but that is the individual brother's choice. The official pins have changed size and backing over the years, so old ones are easily identified on Ebay.

There was a guy who was selling an APO pledge pin on Ebay with the minimum bid of $17, I wrote to him and told him he was out of his mind...

There are about 5-6 regular bidders on Ebay for historical stuff that are brothers, so one (or more of us) are likely to bid on most things, we just have to be sure when we bid against each other. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

BTW, for Alpha Phi Omega, one of the really hot things to bid on on Ebay are Scout Patches that mention Alpha Phi Omega since we help with badge days and such...

just thought i'd let everyone know, i was searching through ebay today and there are pins up for sale for the following:
Sigma Nu
Sigma Kappa
FIJI
Phi Epsilon Tau
Kappa Sigma
Kappa Delta
Kappa Delta Pi
Alpha Tau Omega
Delta Kappa Gamma
Delta Zeta
Phi Delta Theta
Chi Omega
Beta Theta Pi
Sigma Chi
Delta Delta Delta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Tau Kappa Epsilon
Alpha Sigma
Pi Beta Phi
Delta Sigma Tau

A lot of them have the "Buy it now" option - where if you pay a big price (a lot of them, like $150) you get it!

Our last badge went for $501 on Ebay last week. There was no way for us to compete with that. I'm sooooo tired of this!

shadokat 05-02-2001 10:31 AM

I hear that dzrose. Our last one went for $621 and got the high bid within like a minute of our sister who bid $611. Apparently the pin collector population has a lot of cash to play with...I need their job http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Well Group, I check e-bay dailey after finding out about it on this site. As Corbin knows I will bid on our badges! I also check to see who I am bidding against, and if it is a Brother I drop out as they are doing the same thing I am. We have saved a few Badges by not bidding against our selves for the same reason. I always e-m them to find out if they are a Brother and from where to verify it. This will keep the cost down and get them back into the right hands! I really do not care about much of anything else but the BADGE!
