Our snow blower won't start, so we've been shoveling 3 feet of snow. However, this time I was far enough inland not to lose power. Luckily MOST of the areas with power outages have city water and sewer, so they at least have water/ toilets etc. I'm curious to see when they can bring public transportation back up, if the Bruins will play tonight at the garden, and how re-opening roads at 4pm will work.

Clearly the wind was blowing hard.. a clear deck, but a snow drift quite a few feet high:

On a more humorous note, there was a spike in births 9 months after the 78 storm. I remember our local paper did an article about that and babies at the hospital had little onesies that said Blizzard Baby, or something like that.

Got to keep warm somehow.

I love this picture! Look at the layers of snow. It's like looking at some millions-of-years-old rock quarry and seeing all the layers from the climate changes. Very cool visual, thanks for sharing!

Apparently, there was a big snow storm on the day my mom was due to have me. I was two weeks late and she was thankful. One of my best friends was born during that storm and they sent a tank from the tank arsenal in my home town to take her mom to the hospital. Can you imagine? In labor and going to the hospital in a tank because that was the only vehicle that could get through?

Our family station wagon (anyone remember those?!) couldn't get through after the '78 storm because I backed it into a massive snowbank at the side-end of our driveway. Thankfully only event missed was cheerdancing at a school basketball game.

Good to hear you still have power! I was thinking about you this morning when I got up and saw news coverage of the snow!!

I don't know if I can do this, but it's time lapse photography in Hartford, CT from Facebook (I don't know how to post a video):

Trust me, it's worth it.

I find it ironic that the snow seems to be piling up on their deck MUCH more than it is on the ground, which doesn't have to be shoveled.

Piece of advice for my fellow Nemo victims....new app 'craft my letters' is a good time killer lol

aggieAXO 02-10-2013 12:39 AM

Wow, that is a lot of snow!! I visited my friend in Durango,Co. one New Years and there were a few inches of snow-I could not wait to leave, I can't imagine dealing with Nemo.

KSigkid 02-16-2013 09:23 AM

We ended up with 19.5 inches in my town, and I had friends and relatives in other parts of CT with around 3 feet. My office was closed for a couple of days and the courts were shut down, so I got a lot of home time with the new baby.
