And again...many alumnae Panhellenic groups don't gather in the summer, collect PNM resumes, or do anything with recommendations. |

Don't speak for groups other than your own. Don't make sweeping generalizations. Don't act as though you know what groups do behind closed doors. If you do know because someone couldn't keep their mouth shut, don't be as indiscreet as they were. Membership selection is a private process. Treat it as such. |
You don't get it, I am not speaking about the selection process. I am directing my comments to the recommendations. Why would my friends in other NPC groups volunteer references for their groups if the chapters did not want or use them? Why would our local Panhellenic group meet during late spring or early summer to gather resumes and write recommendations, if the chapters did not want them. This is not unique to my home town. Local Panhellenics do this in other cities and other states. I may not be a Greekchat Moderator, but I do have some insight into how the system works.

Your posts read as "If you have a rec, you're guaranteed to be invited back to the second round. If you get recs for next year, you'll make it past the first round." I think what others are saying is that this is not necessarily the case, particularly at schools where everyone has recs. /swerve |
OMG. I'll say it again.
DON'T SPEAK FOR GROUPS OTHER THAN YOUR OWN. UNLESS YOU ARE POSSESSED OF 26 SPLIT PERSONALITIES, THAT MEANS ONLY ONE. DON'T MAKE SWEEPING GENERALIZATIONS THAT CAN'T POSSIBLY APPLY TO EVERY COLLEGE OR ALUMNAE PANHELLENIC IN THE US AND CANADA. WHAT NPC GROUPS ACTUALLY DO WITH RECOMMENDATIONS IS PART OF THE MEMBER SELECTION PROCESS. NOT ALL NPC GROUPS USE THEM. NOT ALL GROUPS USE THEM IN THE SAME WAY. MEMBERSHIP SELECTION IS PRIVATE. I don't know exactly why your friends would volunteer to do anything with references or resumes or recommendations, and frankly, I don't give a shit. Why should I? Unless one of them is a member of my group, it has nothing to do with my group or how it selects its members. |

At some schools PNMs are automatically released if they don't have recs, true, but at some schools, that would never work, as pretty much no one has recs and they would have to release every single girl going through rush. |
As a moderator I would expect you to have a better vocabulary. Do you always resort to profanity when you are frustrated? I haven't made a sweeping generalization, but perhaps you would sleep better if I said, "it has been my experience."
So, I will say, that it has been my experience, that on the campus I advise, that PNMs without references do not fare as well as girls with references. AND it has been my experience that the above information is given to all of the PNM's in the recruitment handbook (written by Panhellenic, so I am going out on a limb here in saying that it applies to all 17 NPC groups). SO while my experience is limited and worthless, If I had a daughter, niece, friend or acquaintance contemplating recruitment on any campus, I would make sure they had letters of introduction or recommendations to all NPC groups on their campus. SO GO AHEAD BLAST AWAY, thrilled I can be your punching bag this evening. |
