The rain held off! I went to my last bid day as an active on the HUB lawn. It was chilly but so exciting! I loved chanting and seeing all our new women. We got 9 wonderful new members. I seriously loved every one of them during recruitment and they are all so happy and ready to get involved.
Quota was 27 I believe, the highest ever! Upperclassman quota was also used this year, which was 5 for each chapter. I will let you know how individual chapters did ASAP. Thank you for all the well wishes, it was an exhausting but exhilarating time and we are all so happy with our newest members and excited to start up with COR events. :) |
Can't wait to hear more! Congratulations on nine new members.

And :( at it being your last, though. I remember sitting in our living room at my last one and being happy to meet the new girls, yet sad at the same time. |
Wow - a quota of FIVE upperclassmen - things have changed so much since I was at PSU. When I rushed (yes, it was still "rush") almost everyone was a sophomore; our pledge class had 1 freshman, 1 junior, and 15 sophomores.
The sororities sent out groups to sing and collect girls at their doors, and you had no idea who was coming for you (unless you suicided, like I did, and hadn't received The Call, so you knew exactly who was coming). You never saw your Rush Counselor again, and only found out through the grape vine what sorority she was in. And there was no SDT or AOPi (although they both arrived on campus while I was there); no TriSig, no SK, no DZ or ADPi. But there was AGD and TriDelt. ....and you wore onions on your belt, and if you were from Shelbyville, you wore green onions..... |
Phi Mu took 23 new Phis!
ADPi took 21 new Alphas! Theta took 27 new members! Over 600 women completed the process this year, and about 1000 started it. This may sound like a large drop out rate but last year 800 started and only about 400 finished. So more women are getting placed! It's a good day for Penn State Greek life. :) More details to come. LionTamer I love your recollections of bid day. |

I'll take good old fashioned pledge pick-up any day. :) |
Haven't heard from my sis yet, but according to T_witter, ZTA got 41 new members!
(Admittedly, I know nothing about Penn State recruitment, but it seems like such an odd range of numbers. Anyone in the know want to enlighten the small-school gal? :-) ) |
Unless ZTA had a LOT of people graduate and/or transfer to the point that they were well under total going into rush, that number sounds off.
|
Maybe tweeting too fast on a smartphone? :-)
|
I counted 30 in their Bid Day pic on Zeta's Facebook page.
|
No that is accurate, ZTA took 41 new members! From what I've heard they had a LOT of seniors graduate and between quota being high, having upperclassman quota, and giving out COB bids before formal recruitment, they had a great year this year! Congratulations to them too, there were SO many fantastic women going through recruitment this year so I'm sure every one of them was truly amazing.
Also updates: AXO took 39 new members. Gamma Phi took 42 new members (!), same reasoning as ZTA, congratulations to them. :) DG took 32 new members (made both quotas) Alpha Phi took 36 new members. I'm going to keep looking for more totals. Congratulations to everyone involved, again! |
So when they do the COB before formal - they can bid up to total? And then go into formal at total and take quota?
This is a really good idea to prevent having to have two structured rushes - especially with THON in the spring. (I have no doubt that had a lot to do with the birth of this concept.) |
Is the upperclassman quota in addition to or included in the quota of 27?
