I do think that there are a lot of people that take a stand against things that (in my mind) don't necessarily need protesting. Just as they are allowed to protest, I'm allow to disagree. In my mind, when we overdo it with the (again, imo) bullshit protests, it cheapens the necessary ones. |

I don't recall ever telling a minority group, especially of which I am not a member, that they are protesting something just to protest. I especially do not recall saying that after I have acknowledged that something can be considered offensive. |
I'm a little offended that Drole has quoted everybody except me in this thread. #givemeattention

K_S, just sit back and think about the environment for young girls where they are expected to be "bad at math" and you through in the extra pressure of pretending not to be smart so that you will be pretty. These are real issues facing girls that effect their lifetime career options. It is absolutely offensive to have a shirt marketed to girls that reinforces the dumbing down of our girls.

Not everyone has to find it offensive or worth speaking out. That is not to be confused with having no concept of the potential larger implications of such things and acting as though those who do find offense and/or spoke out are just bored during a slow work week. Bitches need hobbies! |

Minority groups tend to try to convince and justify things to people who disagree or may be unaware, including members of the minority group. |

Our Honors/Pre-AP Geometry and Algebra II teachers showed this shirt to their students. The classes collectively (and majority female population) laughed and said: "That's the dumbest thing we've ever heard." "What idiot would buy that shirt?" The boys collectively wondered if the makers had ever looked into a math class - the girls usually rank higher than the boys! |
