AKA is collecting school supplies...there's one more way to donate.

On Sunday morning we drove into Tuscaloosa from Prattville via Hwy 82...no problems...no one stopping us asking where we were going. Turned left onto Skyline (or is it Skyland) Blvd. and went right at the first light. This took us straight to University Blvd. Turned left at Publix (I think that is Campus Drive) and took the first right...you'll go behind the Sigma Nu, Phi Gam, Beta and DKE houses. There is a parking lot to the left we parked in all day with no problem. If you are delivering things for Greek Relief turn left onto Campus Drive, then turn right onto Marrs Spring Road, it will intersect with Stadium Drive. Stadium Drive will come down beside the DKE house and they have a "loading and unloading zone" here. http://tour.ua.edu/map/ Here's a map of the campus. Zoom in and you should find the streets I am talking about. Also, when we left we went down McFarland to get on the interstate. (The devistation is mind numbing.) All traffic lights are working, traffic travels slow.
Feel free to PM me if you have questions that I may can answer. http://aflv.blogspot.com/2011/05/ua-greek-relief.html Nice article...in the middle of the article is a link to a story on NBC Nightly News. The story is Rebuilding , recovery in full swing. (I'll try to provide a direct link, but I make no promises.) http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032619/#42849331 (There is a point that both my son and I are in the video...top left corner...only briefly.) www.uagreekrelief.com On a side note: My son is a senior in high school and hopes to pledge a fraternity at UA for Fall '12. He was so impressed with the work the fraternities and sororities were doing. (He made a few new friends too.) |

UA Greek Relief will serve its last meal on Friday, May 6, 2011. They have made over 36,000 hot meals so far. After Friday, May 6th, UA Greek Relief will focus its efforts on fund raising. Your money will go to the Tuscaloosa disaster relief efforts. Thank you. |
I want to share this FB this lady created called Pictures and Documents Found After April Tornadoes: http://www.facebook.com/PicturesandD...AprilTornadoes
Some items have already been returned to the owners. It's unreal how far some of those documents traveled through that tornado. It's also very saddening to see items posted that once belong to people who are now deceased. Nevertheless I'm sure their family will want it. |

Good press for Greeks
Sad that such a horrible situation brought it about, but...
CNN just interviewed an employee of the university who sustained damage to her house. As part of the interview, she mentioned that although many students have gone home, the fraternities and sororities have offered their kitchens, and the Greeks who stuck around stepped up to serve thousands of meals as part of UA Greek Relief. Very impressive, 'Bama Greeks! |
Some great news!
