I should have made myself more clear: Calling anyone a whore (who doesn't have sex for a living) is not ok in my book. Sorry for the mixup.

All this discussion about gender equality and whatnot doesn't make the girl who did this any less stupid and downright mean for telling everyone about it and including the guy's names and pictures.

I don't care if you're male or female, and I don't care how many people you sleep with.
Just keep it to yourself, because that is nobody's business.

but she didn't, sooooooo....

She might be a good judget of sexual prowess, but apparently she's very bad at judging someone's character.

HAHAH! there are some secrets that must be kept beyond the grave. something as outrageous as this- anyone would be tempted to be like "DON'T TELL ANYONE, but look at this", and then the gift just keeps on giving.

aaand i texted you heffa!

I just found this, so I thought I'd post it because I thought it was interesting

I got like halfway through it and was "Ok, this has to have been written by a guy"

You mean "BY: Drew Magary" at the top didn't do that for you, hoss?

Magary's a Deadspin staple, and he has a definite point of view (DURRRRP) - he's also far smarter than you'll guess from this snippet, and he's also overwhelmingly right here. One of the key problems with the "HERO/SLUT" dichotomy is that it suppresses (by intent or by consequence - likely both) female sexuality. Sexuality is often power. She was in the position of power here, and used it stupidly - that happens. She's a fucking moron. That happens.

He's right, though - "A woman who likes having sex with men has NOTHING to be ashamed of. Ever ever ever ever."

A woman who's a fucking moron? Be ashamed. Ever.

If I were a girl and went to Drake, though (assuming I retained my whore status :P)... I'd be taking notes right now lol

ETA: So I was sitting here and realized that I said Drake instead of Duke. I knew Drake Blue Devils didn't sound right. You think I'd know fellow Blue Devils lol.

But yes, KSig RC, that's exactly how I'd feel. :)

If you were a girl and went to Drake, you'd probably wish you went to Duke.

Unless it's a publication I read a lot, I don't read the byline generally speaking. After I read the article I did read the byline, but only then.

I couldn't help but think, "He's being totally facetious, right?"

You may think I'm being facetious about this, but I am not.
Oh. Okay then.

Oh. Okay then.

I'm interested to hear what part you felt was wrong - remember, he's a humor writer, so keep that in mind. His main point - "Women shouldn't be ashamed of enjoying sex" - seems pretty universal . . . do you think he should be facetious in that point?

You've forced her to a nunnery, OR WORSE, marriage!......LOOK AT KAREN OWEN! A radiating, gorgeous beam of light that says YOU, yes even YOU, Mr. Smells His Own Taint, could finally get laid tonight!"
Naaaah it was more those parts that did it.

ETA: There was nothing going into the article that noted he was a humor writer.

I can see how you'd ignore the "Mr. Smells His Own Taint" portion as humor - but with the context that his job is to entertain people as a humor writer on the sports blog that helped break the story (and with a style I've already noted isn't "for everybody"), I'm still interested in seeing what you think.

I get that you disagree that people should have sex - but do you disagree that they should be allowed to have sex without societal condescension, regardless of gender? That's kind of what I'm getting at.

christiangirl 10-06-2010 03:35 AM

I disagree that they should be spared from societal condecension if they refuse to keep their business to themselves. Regardless of gender.

People will always offer their support/resistance/approval/condescension/etc. of another person's actions whether or not they were asked. Whether or not they should is a moot point because they always will. However, society would not be condescending of actions about which it does not know. By broadcasting her indescretions (even to just the few she intended), she opened herself up to others giving their thoughts and opinions of her behavior, whether they are in favor or opposed.

To more specifically answer your question, I don't necessarily have a problem with the fact that she enjoys sex (I'm sure I will, too, someday). I don't like that she went after these guys, not because she was interested in being with them but because she was collecting them like trophies or souvenirs, then disrespected their privacy by giving all these intimate details to others. I think it's awful when men objectify women then brag about it and I feel the same way when the genders are reversed.

Naaah, if I show you something or tell you something in confidence and you're what I call my friend and then share beyond the circle, you're cut off, and your'e lucky if you don't GET cut. But that tends to be why I don't tell bishes shit in the first place!

Yeah you texted me, but what was I supposed to say to that, lol.

Yes...if they keep it to themselves. This is no different than the girl that gets labeled Suzy Slut because she broadcasts her conquests across campus through her friends on a weekly basis, while her BFF is doing exactly the same thing but keeping it to herself and therefore has no label. You just can't expect people to reserve comment when you've made your private business public.

This girl's mistake was sending it to her friends. I learned many moons ago that even your best friends can't always be trusted to have the best judgment. So if it's something you really don't want shared, keep it to yourself.

Personally, I don't care who she has sex with or how many partners she has...it's the fact that she used these men as subjects that bothers me.

This kind of means you do care.

No. I do not care who she has sex with. I care that she invaded the privacy of these guys and used them. If she were a man and these were women there would a lot more outrage, but turnabout is fair.
