It wasn't meant as a slam, it was just referring to the percieved social order around here. |

Also, one of my alumnae chapter sisters who is a 2000 graduate of LSU told me a few months ago that DZ won the Order of Omega for Outstanding Sorority of the Year this year. This award is one of the biggest honors that Sigma has ever earned on the LSU campus. At the LSU Organizations Banquet, the DZ chapter was honored as the Most Outstanding Social Sorority at LSU. Every organization on campus (over 200 of them) nominates a sorority who is known on campus as an outstanding sorority, and is most involved on campus. I think it's a great honor to be recognized by other Greek organizations on your campus! :D Juniorgrrl, since you're currently at LSU, can you please tell me any further info about this particular award? I'd like to see if my alma mater might be interested in doing something along the same lines as LSU does. Thanks! :) |
My chapter pledged Goldie Hawn in the 70s, but she was never intitiated (something about drugs/sex in the chapter room...). Her real name is in our Bond Book...
Umm.... also, Dawn Wells (MaryAnn from Gilligan's Island) was an Alpha Chi! So's Laura Innes (from ER)... go us :) |
AGD has initiated Carly Simon and Carol King, along with Amber from Survivor 2. Rumor has it that while Madonna attended UM she pledged AGD, but we couldnt find her name in the books.
As far as Britney Spears, none of us know what kind of sorirty girl she will or wont be, but if she did decide to become one, give her a chance. After all she might be a better one than many who we know in our chapters already. I have to say that although I dont like some of the things she does (or I should say what the media says she does), I like her. And truthfully , if many girls had a body like that, they probably being showing just as much too. And someone was rgith when they said she really doesnt have a choice. Its what consumers and her industry wants. If she went againts it, she could lose alot. |
Along with Sela Ward, we (Chi Omega) also have Lucy Liu from U of Michigan, Shelly Long, Cybill Shepard, and Joanne Woodward (Paul newman's wife). Go us!
As for Britney Spears-I told myself I wouldn't say anything, but I got sucked in:D -I personally like her. While I don't think too highly about how she dresses, I like some of her songs. They're just good cheezy fun. But I 'm still not sure I'd want her as a sister. Yes she could bring media attention to whatever chapter she pledged, but it doesn't take much for the media to spin things in an unpositive way. And I still can't get over the shoestrings she wears and calls clothes. My gosh! My mom wouldn't let me leave the house in some of the outfits she puts on! Anyhoo, who knows, if she ever did go to college and pledge , she could wind up to be a great sister. Who can say? |

HAHAHAH Girl, you need to get a life. I was with you all the way until the end. I think Britney Spears seems like such a sweet girl. We have a thread on this board "For the non virgin ladies...." And yet how many of us would wear a "Non virgin" shirt around campus. Many wouldn't because that is not the image that we want to portray of ourselves. So let's not be hypocritical. I concur fully that her "naughty" image is manufactured by what is socially demanded of her. She is a very strong woman to be coming this far, dealing with fame at a young age, and deflecting a barrage of criticism. She works hard, she is 20(?). Let her enjoy herself. We are not to judge a sister, but take her by the hand and lead her in the right direction. Sororities are a support system for the period of "finding oneself" in college. I believe more than anything Britney would need something like this as she is dealing with a much larger pool of social pressure. ChiOmegaChick- All I can say is wow. You joined a sorority for the wrong reason. It 's people like yuo that give chapters nationally a horrid reputation for being superficial. Granted, I was a debutante and I love my Tiffany's and Kate Spades, I would never pride myself of these things. I have intelligence and strength supporting the letters of my chapter. Plus you just made yourself look quite immature and naive. Your chapter is definitely not the "best looking, richest, yada yada" chapter on my campus. But I admire these girls because of their close sisterhood and how much they support EVERY other chapter. If money and looks is all that holds your chapter together...what would you do 30 years from now when your hair has grayed and your stock investments have bombed? I know in this case, I could still turn to sisters. What would you do? Maybe I am going overboard, but it makes me absolutely livid when I see people publically detracting from all that people like myself do to make non greeks see how wrong the steroetypes are. This post could also have to do with the fact that I am just realizing what an immense amount of politics is involved in NPC sororities. It tears chapters apart. Let's get back to the basics folks! |

Jenna Bush is currently a Theta at University of Texas...
My particular chapter at UT pledged Dagney Holtgreen who used to be an E! anchor woman until a few years back. She graduated I think the year before I pledged. |
