I don't know what's more ridiculous: 1) being at a campus for a year and not meeting any Kappas but focusing on them as your ideal chapter, 2) using greekrank for chapter reputation research and believing it's the truth.

I go to IU and I was going to rush my freshman year but rush was so close to my final exams that I decided to wait until sophomore year. I have had my eye on KKG for many reasons and I wanted to know if anybody had any experiences or encounters with KKG. Any advice? Are letters of reccomendation a must? ( I have two KKG friends at another school). How were the girls? Any tid bits at all will be really appreciated.

I am not looking at them for the elitism or prestige etc nor am I rushing because my friends are in it. I am not asking how I should act or dress, I simply am curious about the kappa ways. I understand my opinion will likely change when I rush but for now, they are one of my interests. Thanks!

I really appreciate the help! I think everyone misunderstood my questions. I am not asking for advice on how to act and I do understand I may not like kappa or they may cut me. I am just wanting to know more about them than what I have gathered from campus. And I am not interested in kkg merely because my friends are, I have plenty of other friends from different sororities. I am very confident in myself and would not alter my image to fit a sorority. Thanks!

Okay dokay... I appreciate the people who offered advice but I think everybody else on here needs to calm done and tone down on the bitchy. I am neither impressed nor intimidated by your "insider" information. I was simply asking a harmless question on KKG. I am not looking to force my way into it or that intensly interested. You don't need to look into it that deeply or be so guarded and upset. I thought the idea of a forum was asking questions. I am coming to the conclusion that maybe sororities are not that nuturing and supportive and that you are all a bit obsessed with yourselves. I was figuring since you all preach "sisterhood", that you would be helpful. I am going to return to reality now. So long.

Firstly, I did not mean that lecture to be towards the people who offered help. I do appreciate the links and such.
Secondly, I do not want to be in a sorority "soooo bad." I think if I did I would have rushed no matter what this year. Being in a sorority was never a goal of mine and it is very likely that it does not fit my personality. That doesn't mean I can't explore my options.
I am not asking for tips on how to get in. I either fit or I don't fit. What I do want to know is how the kappas are at IU. I would like to know more about them not what they look for in girls. I think people are flattering themselves a little too much to think I am that coo-coo over kappa. I am not in a frenzy to get in, I am not obsessed to get in, I am not awed by them; I am interested in them, or rather was. GET OVER YOURSELF! It was a question. Not a plea written in blood to get into Kappa. I really should not have bothered explaining myself but I think some of the girls on here need to come back to earth. I didn't profess love with them so to say I did makes you look very full of yourself. When I say "you", I mean the ppl this pertains to. I challenge anybody to find a quote where it was supposedly apparent that I am "dying to get in" or that I want to be in a sorority "sooo bad". This forum seems like a community that is used to whiny girls who ask how to get into sororities too often and get upset by newbies who they assume are acting in that manner.

P.S.
i love how you keep putting quotes that I am supposedly thinking. Like the I want to be in a sorority "sooo bad" and the "oohhh nooooo, please be interested in us again." because last time I checked, that is not what was going through the brain, but thanks for that touch. It added pizzaz.

The stuff I have been hearing on campus is not very flattering but I figured that is just people slandering their name but then again maybe I am wrong. Thank you for pointing that out because I was not planning on bringing that up. Don't believe me you can also check out greekrank, its not a pretty picture at all. They are ranked the worst right now. I was hoping to hear otherwise from you girls but so far it looks like you are holding up the the reputation of being bitches. yeah, ouch.

And I also love how in the links you provided me, the same members were total assholes to the girl who started the thread on IU recruitment. It seems bitchiness is a trend here. What a great attitude you girls have. You tried to turn this negativity on me but really just showed your true colors by your repeated behavior and unkindness to others on here.

33girl. oviously I meant to write that I was not itching to join. Also kappamd, I did not spread those rumors. As I said either people were slandering their name or it was truthful answers caused by kkg's own doings. As I said, if you don't believe me, look at kkg iu at greekrank.
And I can ask my friends about their chapter but they live in a different sate and they are not on probation.
ksuviolet, if lecturing someone you dislike qualifies them for president in your mind, i truly wish your right to vote was taken away.

GET OVER IT! Either offer adivce or leave it alone. Don't drag things out otherwise. Its just wasting my time as well as yours. No one forced you to write a response. There is way too much self importance and angst on here. And I am ridiculous trying to justify myself to a bunch of angry, underfed, over tanned, self-important sorority girls.

Take out your anger on issues that matter and stop wasting it on trying to harrass newbies. I am not broken up by this and it isn't going to affect me. I will keep on living my blessed life.

It's amazing how quickly you changed your mind. And all because of some random "angry, underfed, over tanned, self-important sorority girls" who you don't even know.

(And if you changed it that quickly over this, just think of how much it could change about each sorority during recruitment... that is, if you keep an open mind...)

I would also like to point out that no one here called you a "bitch" or an "asshole". There are many people who have repeatedly attempted to give you the same great advice, and you take that as an insult and assume that they're "not understanding what you're asking".

I only hope that in your search for whatever it is that you're looking for, you also grow up a little. And the next time you ask for advice from knowledgeable people (even if it's advice that you don't agree with or care to take to heart), simply listen and attempt to learn.

SMH...why did I just waste 20 min reading this?

I completely missed this. If anyone is the opposite of underfed and overtanned, it's moi.

I think it's normal when you go into recruitment as a sophomore or junior to have preferences, or chapters that intrigue you one way or another. Perhaps something about the sorority resonates with you, or you like their colors or mascot, or you know (or have seen) girls from the chapter walking around campus, and they appeal to you. Maybe you like the look of their house, or you've heard good things about them.

While it's normal to have these preferences, they probably won't impact your recruitment all that much. You will form impressions of the chapters as you go through the rounds, and they will likewise be forming impressions of you. Your preferred chapters may end up high on your list, or not. Likewise you may end up on their invite lists, or not. It is best to be prepared for some disappointments along the way. It is also common to change your mind (often for the better) about a chapter as you continue the process.

Your best chances for a successful recruitment come if you realize that the chapter that is the best fit for you may be one of which you have little or no knowledge at present. That's why you'll keep hearing the excellent advice, "keep an open mind." You don't want to get so emotionally attached to your favorites that you miss the hidden gems along the way.

Maybe it's just my read on this thread, but since the "incorrect advice" sticky it seems like there have been a whole lot of inappropriate questions asked!
