LOL @ people saying Kanye is irrelevant. Umm I guess you haven't looked at his body of work. Kanye gets away with a lot of the things he does because he is so extremely talented. So, to say he is irrelevant in pop culture is incorrect. Now, Taylor Swift was (until Kanye) irrelevant. Taylor definitely didn't deserve the award by any streach of the imagination, but she got it.

Kanye was an arse for taking poor lil Taylor's shine, but that was one of the funniest moments ever! Her face was priceless. She should've just continued with her speech and ignored his outburst. I figure he felt such a strong burning desire to tell the world that Beyonce' is like the best evar just like Lil Mama felt so passionate about Jay/Alicia's performance that she had to jump on stage. lol.

I seriously doubt Kanye's fan base is going to be hurt by this. The people who give a damn about Taylor Swift or who are upset about his outburst (and will still be upset long enough to remember it when his next album hits) aren't Kanye's base so he'll be fine. He did mess himself up with MTV and other award shows, but they'll get over it because Kanye is and will be a huge draw for a long time to come.

Hell, if someone told me at 17 that my experience wasn't gonna be like that, I would have called them a liar!

It's true. This is not the first time Kanye has acted an ass. His sales have not been affected by previous stunts...

Kappamd 09-14-2009 09:34 PM

I'm laughing more at the fact this person thinks Kanye made Taylor relevant. Clearly this must be true, considering she won this award, has won many others, is nominated for even more, and sold out most of her tour dates within 5 minutes. Kanye hasn't won and only gets attention because of douchebag stunts like this. Takes a lot of talent to act like an ass. If his fanbase wants to continue to waste their money on him, then more power to them.

knight_shadow 09-14-2009 09:58 PM

Kanye hasn't won any awards? Kanye is only known for his antics?

Outside of his "extra" moments, he does have talent. He wouldn't be around this long if he didn't.

Same thing was said about Eminem when he was in his prime. He was an ass too, but he was still talented.

It is not a waste of money because he is talented. Taylor, until yesterday and Kanye, was not very relevant. Most people did not know who she was. Many people in this thread and elsewhere have said "I didnt know she sang that song." So in the scheme of relevance in music she was basically irrelevant. As compared to Kanye she's (or was) a nobody.

Kappamd 09-14-2009 10:16 PM

Whatever, you consider her a nobody because you don't listen to her music. People who don't listen to Kanye think he's a nobody too.

Your opinion =/= my opinion, and that's fine with me.

BTW, every one of those links is dead.

No. My opinion =/= your opinion. I dont consider her a nobody because I don't listen to her music. I DO listen to her music. Which is why I can more objectively say that her video was not the best among those that were nominated. I knew who she was and knew her music before the VMAs but the majority of music listeners did not. She wasn't that popular. Do I think she could have gotten there on her own? Yes. But realistically Taylor Swift was not a major act. She is still a "new" artist. And if you compare her relevance in music to that of Kanye West she would be a comaprative nobody.

SHE did not intend for them to be links. SHE just didnt remove the hyperlink from them. The point was to post facts to show that Kanye is relevant and has won many awards which contradicts the point that he was an irrelevant artist who didn't or doesnt win. Here is the link...

She's not completely irrelevant. Anyone who listens to their local top 40 station will hear both of their music within the hour. And there were lots of people who didnt know who Kanye was before that whole "George Bush doesnt care about black people" bit.

Fans of her music and career know who Taylor Swift is. Ditto for Kanye. whether the audiences overlap, probably not much.

This, coming from someone who also didnt know she sang the song she won the award for. I didnt know half the songs Lady Gaga was responsible for - does that make her irrelevant, though she's had a couple of this past year's hits?

Taylor Swift was Billboard's Best-Selling Artist of 2008. I'm pretty sure that makes her relevant...
