Bobbie Brooks was a brand sold at nice dept. stores. Now it's at Dollar General. lol.

I'm feeling you on this. It's depressing. Ditto for the time when Jordache jeans showed up at Walmart....now I think they're trying to "upscale" them again but I don't know how successful it's been. My Jordaches had a metal plate on the back left pocket and I would always forget and scratch my hand when I put it in there.

I was in HS from 1992-1996:

Doc Martens/Skechers boots
Overalls
Turtlenecks
Adidas anything, I wore a hooded windbreaker with my Samba sneakers
Levis jeans, especially those bought already worn/torn
Floral dresses with shoulderpads
Umbro shorts and t-shirts
Brine shorts and t-shirts
Co-ed Naked shirts
Bodysuits, I owned a purple one with a mock-neck
Hypercolor t-shirt, which I wore with my Levis and Sambas
Crochet vests
Barrettes
Cardigans
Penny loafers, with a penny inside
Flannel button-down shirts, I always borrowed my Dad's

And...does anyone remember Starter jackets?!

OMG live-in has one of these (Charlotte Hornets, LOL) and he wears it when it's cold out and we take out the dog. It's a complete riot to see him in this purple and teal Starter jacket!

So can anyone else tell me what was happening in American high schools all of TWO YEARS ago? Because like, who can remember all that stuff, you know?

I'm with you Army Wife. Here are the fashions from the late 70s...
The disco era was moving into Punk Rock. Talk about a juxtaposition!

Went from Afros/Dorothy Hammil cuts to Feathered bangs (I wore the afro for two years, then tried the feathered bangs that didn't work with curly hair).
Calvin Klein, Jordache and Brittania Jeans – very tight. Sometimes they zipped at the ankles
Painter Pants (reincarnated later as Cargo Pants)
Blue Jean overalls
Jumpsuits
Shiny tops with wide lapels (Qiana knit)
Wrap Dresses (particularly Diane Von Furstenburg)
Gunne Sax Dresses
Gauchos with Dingo Boots (I recall this was reincarnated too)
“Bow” Blouses and Cowl-neck sweaters
Annie Hall-style dresses with big shoulder pads
Bomber Jackets, Down Jackets/Vests
Tall Platforms Cork Shoes, Candies Heels, Dr. Scholl’s
Top Siders and Rugby Shirts on the preppy-types
Crinkled Cloth (my mother always tried to iron out the wrinkles)
Very Big Hoop Earrings and Mood Rings
Pom Pom socks and Tube Socks
Lots of makeup and overly plucked eyebrows
Bonne Bell Lipsmackers in 7-up flavor
Benzgirl, we must have been in the same era and area because this would have been my list as well.

I would add some of the incoming new wave stuff like:

mini skirts in denim
pegged jeans -or so tight legged there were zippers up the legs
Fiorucci designer stuff
Guess Jeans
Van Eli flats in all colors
converse high tops (mine were purple)
and to go out at night - anything shiny or lacy (as Madonna-esque as we dared!!)

I obviously stand corrected, and considering that just about to anyone i went to high school played at least one sport, that's quite possible.

I wanted this to be more of a throwback thread where people who graduated c/o 1925-1995 (a noncoincidental cutoff point :p) shared their fashions.

It's almost there!

Hey now, I feel like the fashions have changed alot since I graduated, and that was just 7 years ago!

However, girls who graduated like, since I've been out of undergrad (2006 -now), not so much. They haven't even gotten to the point of "omg what was I thinking?" yet!

PS. still waiting on sthrnsweetie007 to tell me if multiple org perping was in style back when she graduated.

We're all biased. :)

Since I graduated from high school in 2007, I'm still waiting for that Aha! moment when I realize that everything I wore in high school was terrible. Then again...I was the one borrowing my mother's 1970's relic frye campus boots, minnetonka moccasins, and lacoste polos, so I may not have looked that bad.

Still, those popped collars, trucker hats, and the mini-skirts-and-uggs look were pretty terrible. And don't even get me started on this "scenester" look that erupted sometime during mid-2005...

Then again, Crocs did become mainstream during my sophomore year of high school. Ugh.

As for Umbros, I thought they were appropriate attire for any situation. Umbros and a letter shirt were my daily uniform!

Ohhhh yes. Those socks were sometimes the most important part of the whole ensemble. Sometimes I wonder how I fit into my shoes!

FWIW...It's the Bobbie Brooks Licensing, not the original Bobbie Brooks that we wore in the early 70s.
