Can you say "Singapore caning"?

Dude...you are taking this way too personal...come here and lemme give you a hug and make it feel better ok?

He's taking it personally because he's right?

But probably not worked over by the police.

-- unless the incident happened in New York or L.A., in which case, may God have mercy on his soul.

Regardless of who is in office, when the President is out of country visiting other nations he *IS* the US. So as Americans, we should feel some protective reaction about anybody taking a pot shot at our Commander in Chief. Again, regardless of the man in the seat, that's the US Presidency. Its like that old adage about how I can bitch and moan all I want about my family but don't you dare say something against them because they're MY family.

Pretty much matches our reactions as well.

And yeah, DS, you're certainly free to have an opinion. That doesn't mean the rest of us have to act like it's a reasonable opinion when it isn't.

Again:
The assault on a US President shouldn't be condoned by Americans. Ever.
That's all I'm sayin'.
And, that's what I meant by political leaders should be respected. Maybe I would have been clearer if I said that their "office" should be respected.

I don't think we should start throwing shoes at Mahmoud Ahmadinejad either. I REALLY don't agree with him and think he's a lunatic, but if he was giving a speach in the UN Assembly and somebody threw a shoe at him, it would be appalling. But, that's where we're at in this world.

Come on now, you know Occam's Razor, formal logic and common sense have no place on the Internet.

Me too, like I said before, I couldn't believe how quick he was dodging both those shoes. I couldn't move like that and would have been beaned.

And, his reaction was pretty funny too, he just kind of chuckled. It was very strange to watch.

Again, disrespecting a world leader through humor? I'll laugh. Disrespecting a world leader to his face? Gutsy. Physically assaulting a world leader? Out of line.

You realize how ironic this statement is in light of your statements in this thread, right? You're the one who seems to be taking it the most personally here. Maybe you should take a step back and try to look at it objectively, or as objectively as possible.

No one is saying that it's wrong to disagree with a President, to express that disagreement to the President in the form of protests, etc. It crosses the line when you try to commit assault against that person. You have given lip-service to that point, but the majority of your comments make it seem that you think that the assault is ok, because you don't like President Bush. That's a pretty dangerous concept, in my mind.

Troops die under every President. It's terrible, but it happens. Chances are that troops will die under President Obama, either during the current conflicts, or conflicts that may arise during his presidency. Is it then ok for people to throw shoes at Obama? Again, what about people who lose jobs under an Obama presidency? Can they throw shoes at him? If they do, will he have brought that assault upon himself, as you claim Bush has done?

LEADER?

HA!

AGDee 12-15-2008 07:14 PM

I saw an Iraqi official on either Today or the Early Show this morning who said that under the past regime, the man would receive the death penalty for assaulting a leader. However, he said that under current law, there is no law that addresses it, but he is sure that there will be soon.
