Kitso, is that you?! Whoa buddy! Glad to see you back around these streets. :)

I've been all over the state of Texas. I've been as north as Amarillo, as west as El Paso, as east as Beaumont, and as south as Brownsville. I have never been to the DFW area though. There really isn't anything that draws me to the area. That doesn't make me less of a Texas does it?

Shoutouts:
JennRN, I'm sorry you're leaving us!
gamma_girl52, you're going to love it here. Guaranteed.
SWTXBelle, welcome back home!! :)

To each his own. I happen to like plums. A very under-rated fruit in my book. Not nearly the buzz of Grapefruit or Kiwi, but much tastier.

Kitso
KS 361 hours you'll spend on the crapper if you go overboard on the plums though.

Uhhh. no. I have lived in Texas my entire life and have traveled to every single part of it worth going to.....and I despise Dallas with a passion.

Nice to see you back Kitso.

How bout them SPURS:):)

Ive lived in Texas all my life also. Lived in the Plano area. West side. I really like Plano and the surrounding areas because its a nice blend of urban, suburban, and rural areas.

Discuss.

Okay. I will bite.

I lived in Fort Worth for 10 years and Dallas for 7. This should qualify me as somewhat of an authority on the subject. Dallas was fun in my 20s, but, yes, Cowtown gets the nod. Much, much better city. Let me count the ways

1. No $30,000 pretend millionaires who are upside down on their BMW loan, trying to impress you with their loft, clothes, and drinks. Meanwhile... they will be paying that Visa card off for life. Mac/WSP/whoever you are today called it correctly. Dallas is full of pretentious douche-bags.

2. Far superior museums. Far superior.

3. The TCU/Colonial/Botanical Gardens/Forest Park area is much prettier than anything in Dallas.

4. Compare the downtowns. Need I say more?

5. Three Words: Joe. T. Garcia's.

6. Traveling East-West across the city is actually possible.

7. Fort Worth actually has an idenity. Dallas just has concrete.

8. Out of town guests? You have a week's worth of activities in Fort Worth. Um, in Dallas, once you have finished the JFK musuem, I guess you could show them the High Five.

9. Cops on bikes and horseback in downtown FW. Cops who are corrupt in Dallas.

10. Dallas has people who have lived there their entire lives, and who will brag that they have *never* been to Fort Worth. Bleg. Fort Worth has people who recognize the greatness of their own city, but who will venture out and explore other places.

I am sure there are more, but these come to top of mind.

Oh, Jenn.

Sending hugs your way.

I went to grad school in the western part of Virginia...in other words about 30 minutes from the state line of West Virginia. It is absolutely gorgeous... no doubt... but... let me put it this way:

The first day of hunting season is a school holiday.

I wish I were making that up, but I am not. :eek:

People in Texas think that Arkansas is full of red-necks. Sad to say- Arkansas is full of sophistication compared to what you will encounter in WVa.

But... it is beautiful. Take in the beauty for all that it is worth. If not the most beautiful state in our country, it is certainly top 3.

I know it is!! The kids don't go to school on first day of hunting season!

You're right, it is beautiful. More so than I was expecting. I just wish there was more stuff there.

Nice to be back. Wish the SPURS woulda done a little better last night, but hopefully we can bounce back and steal game 2 in LA. You have no idea how much it sucks living in Mavs country.

I'm definitely LMAO at the idea of Dallas having a much higher DoucheBag quotient than Fort Worth. I mean, on the spectrum of DoucheBag-ness, Dallas is heavy on the Ray Allen or Super-King-Mega-DoucheBag end.

And that's exciting to hear about the museums. I've only made it to the Museum of Modern Art over here, but was planning on making it to the Kimball sometime this summer. And hopefully the Museum of Science sometime too.

Texas will have its first-ever sales tax holiday on Saturday, Sunday and Memorial Day on certain household appliances carrying the Energy Star logo.

Purchasers will save the 6.25 percent state sales tax plus local sales taxes, which in cities such as Houston and San Antonio will be an additional savings of 2 percent.

Statewide, shoppers are expected to save about $2.6 million, the state comptroller's office estimated.

Tax-exempt items, purchased either in a store or from an Internet or catalog seller doing business in Texas, will include:

* Air conditioners priced less than $6,000 (The tax break doesn't apply to installation costs.)

* Ceiling fans
* Dehumidifiers
* Dishwashers
* Refrigerators priced less than $2,000
* Clothes washers (but not clothes dryers)
* Programmable thermostats
* Incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs

Anyone else taking advantage of this? Lowes is offering an additional 10% off on certain energy star appliances. I’m thinking about picking up a new window unit for the garage.
