b.) Elizabeth Orman and Winnie Bowker
c.) Kirk Bell Cocke and Roselyn Dabbs
d.) none of the above

I'll say A.

NutBrnHair 05-22-2007 05:40 PM

Correct you are, CutieHootie!

MLC & Elizabeth Dyer were both special initiates of Delta Chapter, Dickinson College.

As a graduate of Dickinson, Mary Love was instrumental in the formation of Delta Chapter and was initiated as an alumna member. Elizabeth was initiated by "special dispensation" as a member in 1922.

Why don't you ask the next question, Cutie Hootie?!

Okay, here we go....

Our Archivist, Lyn Harris, and our Archivist Emeritus, Jan Blackwell, have each been presented with a very special badge. What is so special about these badges?

A. They are a replica of the first Chi Omega badge made by Dr. Charles Richardson.

B. They have alternating pearls and diamonds.

C. They are mounted on a golden Seal of Chi Omega.

D. They have rubies instead of pearls or diamonds.

Bonus points if you can explain WHY this was done. :)

Well, I've never seen Lyn's badge as she was unable to make Convention this year :(, but I saw the one presented to Jan and it has rubies. My story may be a bit off, but here's the jist...
We had an old badge in the archives that had rubies instead of pearls. It belonged to a "notable" alumna - Mary Love I think, or perhaps Ida Pace Purdue? Unfortunately, it was stolen some time ago and never recovered. So when trying to find the perfect badge to present to Jan upon her retirement, they decided a replica of the one lost would be perfect.

Though I have to say I didn't know Lyn had the same one...

You are correct!!! I saw Lyn receive hers at Firesides this year--it is absolutely beautiful!! Both badges are mounted on gold disks with the engraving "Archivist" and "Archivist Emeritus". And you were correct, it was Ida Pace Purdue's badge that had the rubies originally. According to what I learned at Firesides and Convention, the Supreme Governing Council gave special dispensation for these unique badges to be created (which I think is pretty cool!).:)

Here's another question (I'm starting to like asking these...it's the History teacher in me coming out!!):

Which of the following chapters did not celebrate their 20th Anniversary this year?

A. Upsilon Lambda
B. Pi Lambda
C. Sigma Lambda
D. Phi Lambda

:)

NutBrnHair 05-25-2007 09:24 AM

Allright then...Cutie Hootie with a not-so-easy question! (Good for you!)

The answer is:

B.) Pi Lambda, Centre College (chartered in 1988)

Correct, NutBrn!! Happy 20th Anniversary to our sisters at Hanover College (Upsilon Lambda--my initiating chapter!), Virginia Tech (Sigma Lambda), and Franklin & Marshall College (Phi Lambda). :)

I guessed that answer before checking my answer... and interesting enough my NM manual (from 03) only has 7 listed... odd isn't it. Although the list I have is only ACTIVE chapters...that could be why? But all of the other years only have 1-3 chapters opening... :)

You are right, Berlee! It's wild that happened during WWI isn't it?

Delta Alpha, UT-Chattanooga
Zeta Alpha, The Ohio State Univ.
Beta Alpha, UPenn
Psi Beta, Univ. of Iowa
Chi Beta, Purdue
Epsilon Alpha, Univ. of Oklahoma
Phi Beta, Univ. of Pittsburgh

The two additional chapters you didn't see listed were at Swarthmore College (PA) and Hollins College (VA) which both did away with their Greek Systems in later years.

I'm going to guess........ d. I think I'm wrong but it would be neat if he had paid for it! haha

NutBrnHair 06-04-2007 10:49 PM

Awww...it would have been neat, but alas, no -- he didn't. :(
