“In My Room”—The Beach Boys
(Now that we’ve also lost Brian Wilson who created a whole new music genre, I thought I’d honor The Beach Boys. Btw—Paul McCartney said “God Only Knows” is one of his favorite songs ever.) The 60’s SOUNDS OF SUMMER!! |

"God Only Knows" - The Beach Boys
We camethisclose to having this song at our wedding. Hubby wasn't sure that starting out with "I may not always love you..." though. Point taken. For the more "seasoned" GC people, you may remember James Watt saying that the Beach Boys weren't American enough/attracted the wrong element to play at the National Mall for July 4, 1983. Instead, they played at a Team America (soccer) game at RFK, and we were there. Talk about your fun concerts! Between the music, the fans, and the number of 3-foot soccer balls bouncing all around the stadium, it was a concert that was amazing AND fun! |
"Rock and Roll Music"---Beach Boys
It always amuses me that America's Top 40 Billboard Countdown chart, for the historic week that includes our Bicentennial date of July 4th, 1976, includes this Chuck Berry song in its Beach Boys version. A song by the Beatles (who hadn't been together for a half dozen years by that date) was on that same chart. It's as though people in the music industry made sure future generations looking-up the limited Bicentennial Top 40 Hits List would see at least SOME music by The Big Groups/The Important Musicians of our general times listed. |
