How was bid day?!

disasterscookie 09-12-2008 08:28 PM

Bid Day!

Bid Day was SUPER fun! I got to know a lot of girls in my pledge class and I think we are going to have a wonderful journey together! I absolutely love all the girls! There are a couple of them that already have me wondering "How did I get this far in my life without you!" I love them dearly!
This morning my husband woke me up and forced me to go outside, in my pj's and it was freezing, to show me that my Big Sis had tagged me up the night before! It is so cute! Plus, I live in family housing and everyone is like way older than us, has children, or are fuddy-duddy's (sadly) so they are all confused as to what is going on and wonder why I have crazy signs that say "OPA loves disasterscookie" on them :) I like rocking the boat.
I have a pretty good guess as to who my Big is. Based on hand writing alone. On the second night of rush we wrote letters to children in hospitals (a program called make a child smile) and I sat next to her and saw her hand writing. The card I got from my Big is in the same hand writing. I would absolutely LOVE if this girl is my Big because she and I hit it off especially well :)

This whole experience is amazing and I am completely in love with OPhiA!

DSTRen13 09-13-2008 07:42 AM

Congratulations :D

Initiation!

Tonight is initiation for all the pledges! There are 20 girls in my pledge class whom of which I adore! I cannot wait for pledge retreat and other fun stuff I get to do with them! I am also already holding my breath for big/lil revealing! Haha, who doesn't love presents?!
EXCITED! As always!

AOEforme 09-14-2008 09:46 PM

Congrats!

TriDPrincess 09-14-2008 11:02 PM

I'm a little confused... do you mean initiation as in you become a full fledged sister or something more of a pinning ceremony (if you can share of course). I hope I don't come across as rude & congrats again!

AOEforme 09-15-2008 01:03 AM

You mean NM initiation, right? Not sister initiation?

OPhiAGinger 09-15-2008 01:34 AM

Yes, she means initiation into the pledge class (aka pinning) not initiation into the sisterhood.

disasterscookie 09-15-2008 12:07 PM

:D

I was a little confused on this as well, but yes it was initiation into the pledge class. Pinning cermony.
WHICH WAS BEAUTIFUL!!!!
And then we got presents from our bigs, and god if mine doesn't know me super well already. She got me things to give me hints to who she is, but these items played directly into who I am. It was a red boa, a bubble gun, nerds, chocolate pretzels, and a weird magical bag that makes ice cream?! I haven't tried it yet. But I wore the boa the entire night and when I got home I ran around my house in my pj's and the boa blowing bubbles everywhere. My husband was laughing at me in his "please-calm-down-you-crazy-girl" kind of laugh he has developed since we got married. I tend to get excited like a 4 year old :D

Our pledge meetings are Sundays at 8pm and honestly, I don't know how I am going to go a whole week every week without seeing all these amazing girls.

And FYI, my pledge mom is amazing.

Help! I just tried to post a picture from photobucket and it didn't work :(

Leslie Anne 09-15-2008 12:10 PM

^^^ I'm so happy everything has worked out so well for you! Sounds like you're having a blast. :)

disasterscookie 10-09-2008 11:33 AM

Do most NALFO and NPHC organizations take graduate students? I was under the impression that they did. I didn't know where I could post this question, I figured I would just post it to my own thread and hope someone would find it.
Also, the 2 sororities that accept grad students are Alpha Xi Delta and Phi Sigma Sigma, but just because they are allowed to take graduate students, doesn't mean that they will.

Just curious :)

Everything with OPhiA is going beautifully. I love my pledge class and my pledge mom!

KSUViolet06 10-09-2008 03:00 PM

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I think that someone who is a grad student or college grad and wishes to join an NPHC sorority, would only be able to do so via a grad/alumna chapter. I don't believe grad students can join their collegiate chapters.

It varies with NALFO organizations. NALFO does not regulate whether or not graduate students can join collegiate chapters, so an interest would need to contact his/her organization of choice to figure out its policies.
