my friends and i saw it the other day and loved it.
afterward we all wondered if the screen time given to tiny at the end had any kind of meaning in terms of next film.

LucyKKG 07-24-2008 02:23 AM

Just saw this with my bf, and I loved it! Heath Ledger was GREAT! Totally scary and very convincing. I agree with what everyone else has said about a certain character's death.

DaemonSeid 07-24-2008 07:58 AM

OK.......I am calling it.....by next week...SPOILERS.....if not...I will start my own Batman thread so those of us who have seen it can discuss it fully...agreed?

YES! Thank you! I actually avoided reading this thread at all until I saw the movie, but now it's just got vague spoiler-ish stuff. Not really spoilers. But yes yes, spoilers next week!

When I got to the parking lot, I realized I forgot my popcorn, so I went back in to get it since I didn't finish it. I ate it in the car. But, yeah that movie was horrible.

Daemon I totally agree with you.

lol lol lol lol :D

CrackerBarrel 07-25-2008 01:11 AM

I saw it tonight. Was about what I expected. Better than any other comic book movie I've seen, but not an absolutely amazing movie either. When Bale talked as Batman it sounded like he was trying to sound like Clint Eastwood.

cheerfulgreek 07-25-2008 01:16 AM

I can't say anything good about the movie itself, but the theater itself was great.:) The movie was bad, but we went to the theater with the good popcorn salt. If it would have been a theater that only had table salt I would have refused to go in..... http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/33.gif

ITA

Enjoyed the film. Beautifully done.

I absolutely hate what they do to female characters in comic book films.
Most of the time they're window dressing. Maggie G.'s character was so blah.

Margot Kidder and Christopher Reeve had the best chemistry.

The critique of Batman is coming from the same poster who LOVED "The Happening" by M Night Schmilaj;asg;a:rolleyes:

So, what does that tell you?:D

starang21 07-25-2008 03:43 PM

bale sounded like the cookie monster when he talked as batman.

Ya know, it really pisses me off that they did that. I still say whomever suggested that should be fired. Then they had the nerve to keep showing his mouth with his lisp.

And Bale made a real goof-off Bruce Wayne, too. Maybe they thought his voice was too goof-offy to be Batman's voice.

With exception for The Dark Knight, the first 2 Batman movies were the best.

I had forgotten how GOOFY Batman Forever was with Val Kilmer, Tommy Lee Jones (as Two-Face ) and Jim Carey (as The Riddler ).

I actually liked Jim Carey! The ones I hated was the one with Arnold, and the one w/ the Penguin.

I apologize, that's what I meant. (I should really be apologizing to Jack Nicholson :o I love him) I know he's the ideal Riddler to many but I didn't like him.

The one with Arnold sucked but who else would've played Mr. Freeze?

I happened to be reading about the Batman franchise on wikipedia today actually. According to a (sourced) statement there,

Quote:

Anthony Hopkins, Patrick Stewart, and Ben Kingsley were all considered for the role of Mr. Freeze, though ultimately Arnold Schwarzenegger was cast because Joel Schumacher decided that Mr. Freeze must be "big and strong like he was chiseled out of a glacier".
Wow. Here's the link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_...29#Development

It almost makes me want to go back and watch all the movies... I remember really liking Tim Burton's original. I don't remember the second one well enough to comment. And for the Schumacher installments I was in late elementary/middle school so I don't remember picking up on TEH SUCK. Another interesting note on wikipedia is how some people perceived the films to be homoeroticized by Schumacher. I can't really comment on that since I don't remember and those perceptions could be the product of homophobia. But I REALLY want to go back and watch those for the pure cheese factor alone.

I think Arnold was a good choice is "big" is what they were going for. :) I read today that there was a "Batman fan debate" about Jim Carey vs. Heath Ledger for The Joker. I guess that's where I got The Joker from in my other post. Carey as The Joker would've sucked worse than Carey as The Riddler. He acts the same in most of his movies.

LOL @ TEH SUCK

Hmmmm...homoeroticized? I guess there are all sorts of images in movies depending on the observer.

On the warner bros site you can purchase the DVDs. I have no interest in revisiting the last 2 Batman movies. At all. I would like to see the first 2 movies again.

Jim Carey seriously grosses me out.

The examples of homoeroticization I read about were some battle taking place in a corridor of naked male statues, naked butt shots of Clooney and O'Donnell (don't remember this?!?!?!), and the much-maligned Batsuit nipples.

I have decided not to get cable at my new place, and I think I might get netflix again. If so I may revisit the Batman movies...

He is gross and much of that can be attributed to his "physical comedy" or whatever it's called.

Okay Batman's nipples are funny. I guess the suit-abs require suit-nipples. I don't recall naked butt shots but I've removed much of the Clooney-O'Donnell movie from my memory because it sucked.

Maggie Gyllenhal(sp) is funny looking and I didn't like how they played the character.

AOIIalum 07-27-2008 03:08 PM

We finally saw it yesterday morning. I hope to go see it again sometime next week. I'm just so thankful I didn't have to sit through Katie Holmes, however, after seeing the Rachel's storyline I almost wish she reprised the role.

I'm surprised more people aren't talking about Michael Caine and/or Morgan Freeman. I thought both gave outstanding performances.

They were great. They were much better than Christian Bale's rendition of Batman. However, I suspect that no one expected Caine and Freeman to not be great and/or no one thought their supporting roles left a lot of room for acting creativity.

None of the reviews I've read have given due credit to the senior actors on the roster. The critics and fans are basically too busy crooning over Heath Ledger and trying to find a reason to give Bale a head nod.

On that note:
The more I think about this movie, the more I didn't like Bale as Bruce Wayne or his raspy lisped Batman. I know that Ledger's death has made this movie more about Ledger's Joker than Batman. That could have to do with the fact that they've switched Batman's a few times in the series whereas The Joker has pretty consistently been Jack Nicholson. I haven't seen any advertisements that don't have Joker as the focal point. I wonder if any scenes were cut to highlight The Joker even more after Ledger's passing or if that's how the movie was always intended. This movie should be called "The Joker." That could be my anti-Bale and pro-Ledger bias, though.

I totally agree with you Chaos! I know people will disagree with me, but I don't think that Ledger's Joker lived up to the hype. It wasn't "lets go see Batman," it was "let's see Ledger play The Joker." And although he was good(even great), I didn't think he was "OMG" spectacular.

If Ledger hadn't passed away, do you think there would be so much emphasis on The Joker?

and since we are doing spoilers now, does anyone know if Two-Face is coming back? Yes, he was knocked off that building & it seemed like he was dead....but you know these movies. Just when you think the person is dead, the next 'episode' comes out and VIOLA, the person shows up alive. I can totally see Two-Face coming back.

I've read that Two-Face is supposed to be the main villain in the next movie, but I think that could easily be incorrect or change.

I've also read that Catwoman is to have a role in the next movie. Again, could be pure rumor.

if you could, please locate where you read the above when you can. While we did "see" gordon "die", we also saw the reason and his "rebirth". we saw two face die as well as the memorial services for him. while the continuation of the character would have been rather nice, seems as if for some reason unknown to us the writers desired to end that thread. i am not aware of a second two-face.

catwoman could make sense and would be rather interesting as part of plot in which batman is the hunted rather than the hunter.

He needs to come back! :)

Plus, he was on some superhuman stuff to be able to walk about without half of his face like that. Certainly a fall off a building won't kill him!!!!

I predict that Scarecrow will get out of jail, TwoFace will come back, and they will get The Joker out of his holding cell. Then they'll hook up with some other bad guys and whoop that raspy lisp out of Bale's Batman.

DSTCHAOS 07-27-2008 09:39 PM

I don't mind Catwoman coming back as long as it isn't that nonacting Halle Berry.

pbear19 07-27-2008 09:45 PM

There was a line in the movie which I thought was a nod to a future reprisal of the Catwoman role. Does anyone remember what it was? I can't for the life of me even remember who said it, although I think it was Bruce Wayne. At any rate, the first thing I thought of after that particular line was that it was foreshadowing.

I agree (about Two-Face coming back). If you think The Joker should come back in the next movie...who do you think could play him?

I see Two-Face and the Riddler (i still like Jim Carey! I think he totally pull off a real sinister Riddler) teaming up.

I vote for Batgirl instead of Catwoman!! lol

breathesgelatin 07-27-2008 09:56 PM

I found where I read it. It was all on the Wikipedia page for the Batman film franchise:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_...ries%29#Future

It suggests that The Riddler as well as Catwoman could be potential characters. It also suggests that Nolan doesn't want to use the Penguin or Robin. And that some other producer doesn't want to use Catwoman. So who knows? As far as Two-Face goes, it says that Eckhart is confirmed for the third movie, but if you go to the source link about it, it is just a statement from Eckhart that he would love to appear in the third movie. Again, who knows?

unlike smallville, this film series seems to be following the original canon rather closely. i just do not see the writers hitting the viola reset button. for reasons known currently only to them, they seem to have desired to end that thread. while there was a reason shown to cover up gordon's life, i just to know see any reason that a viewer of the film should have any belief that two face is still above the ground. and i am still wondering just why tiny lester had that much screen time at end.

added thought: as a paying viewer, i would feel used if in two years the next movie had that dent/two face was alive but it was covered up so the public would not learn the truth behind the da. and then of course the truth comes out anyway.
