I'm bumping this because I love it!

My overwhelming first choice would have been Alpha Delta Pi! I loved them during informal recruitment, they are very strong nationally, I love their colors/Alphie (of course a Penn Stater would love the blue/white colors with a Lion mascot). I'm very glad I'm a Sigma now, but ADPi would have been an amazing choice as well.

Second-Zeta Tau Alpha because I loved their symbols, colors, and the fact that they are so involved in our dance marathon here (they've been the top fundraisers for years!) Also that they are in the Farmville Four, and I love their motto.

Third- Pi Beta Phi I love their philanthropy, their colors are pretty, and Pi Phi ladies are so classy.

Fourth- Kappa Kappa Gamma Love their nickname, the philanthropy, that Kappa's are oh-so-classy, and the fleur-de-lis (I'm obsessed with this symbol!)

Fifth- Phi Mu, I love that it's strong nationally, the quartefoil symbol, the lion mascot, and the French motto that's about being faithful.

If we had it at our campus (isn't it ironic that at a school with 19 I could still want another?) but Delta Phi Epsilon because I love their motto and colors, and their philanthropy is close to my heart. Also Alpha Epsilon Phi has a sweet motto, as does Alpha Gamma Delta. Alpha Phi's crest and mascot are also very appealing to me, as well as Delta Gamma's philanthropy and Kappa Delta's motto. Also Sigma Kappa's motto is succinct and special to me.

Basically I loved something about every sorority that I looked into, which is why each of them is amazing and unique on its own and why anyone should be happy to be in the one in which they best fit. But I do love being a Tri Sigma most of all, because of our colors, our symbols, and because the motto means so much to me. Besides my amazing sisters which are what truly make the experience!

phi.sig.love 12-14-2009 03:23 AM

Even though I loveeee being a Phi Sigma Sigma, I think that if I had to pick another GLO I would choose.... Alpha Delta Pi! I love their motto "we live for each other" because it definitely is a fantastic representation of what Greek Life is all about!

xomanadaxo 12-14-2009 01:08 PM

I'm not that far removed from age 18, so hopefully this won't be too difficult :)

AXΩ: I hadn't heard much about them before I started going through all the websites, but their commitment to "Real strong women" really made an impression on me. I found myself really drawn to this sorority and its ideals.

AOΠ: I like their commitment to "Exceed the expectation." Plus, the romantic in me got really excited that they specifically mention the candlepass tradition on their website.

AΞΔ: I love the colors of this sorority! I also really like the philanthropy and the ideal of inspiring women to realize their potential.

XΩ: I always see the cutest owl stuff when I'm shopping and envy the ChiO sisters because they get to deck themselves out :) I also like that this is the largest women's organization because it means you have lots of sisters all over the place.

ΔΔΔ: I think it's very cool that they explain how the pearl was "chosen to symbolize the new member because it is the one jewel that grows, developing from a tiny grain of sand into a thing of great value and beauty." I also really like their philanthropy (St Jude).

ΦM: Love the pink! Very cool creed.

ΣK: Love the colors and symbols, have always been impressed by women I’ve met from this sorority.

ZTA: Love the colors, badge, crown symbol...haha, a lot of things. I also really like their philanthropy.

Overall, I'd have to say my top two would be AChiO and Sigma Kappa...but I know in my heart I'm meant to be a KD!

thetygerlily 12-14-2009 03:30 PM

These would be my top three:

KAΘ: They were my second choice at my school and I have a lot of respect for them nationally. I love that one of their founders refused to be a mascot! And Thetas are some of the coolest people I know, including here on GC. CASA is also such a unique philanthropy, it's a great cause to draw more attention to.

AXΩ: I was told certain pieces of their ritual (sorry :() and it really resonated with me, absolutely beautiful. Although I'm not musical I went to a musical school (the AXΩ chapter really needs to reopen there!!) and much of who they are as an org is just plain cool.

AГΔ: This wouldn't have resonated with 18-year-old me, but 26-year-old me's husband was recently diagnosed with "juvenile" diabetes so the philanthropy really hits home for me. The squirrel is just plain cute, too. And "Inspire the Woman. Impact the World." - poignant and such a great vision.

Honorable mentions would go to ГΦB (the Badge Trends thread has highlighted such incredible historical badges & the pink & brown has really grown on me), ΔΔΔ (documenting everything- including ritual- from the founding is just incredible), and ΠBΦ (Monmouth duo, one of my best friends is a ΠBΦ).

So... I'm THRILLED with Kappa and I love my key, but I think if I had a do-over without KKG I'd probably go with Theta. I just keep getting drawn back to them- first as a collegiate, and now as an alumna.

I often think about where I would want any potential future daughters to wind up- I would LOVE to share a bond of Kappa with a daughter, but at the same time I would also cherish the opportunity to learn more about another great organization and be more involved elsewhere. GDI is always an option, but I'll claim ignorance is bliss on that for now :D

Miriverite 12-14-2009 05:26 PM

I absolutely love AXO and can't picture myself without my fabulous Alpha Chi sisters. If AXO didn't exist, though, then I would love to join either:

Zeta Tau Alpha - I absolutely LOVE their motto ("seek the noblest"), the five-pointed crown, and their philanthropy. ZTA girls always seem so bright and confident =)

Kappa Alpha Theta - the chapter at my university is filled with some of the most glowing and respectable women. They are classy and are super dedicated to making sure they do everything in the most awesome way possible. Love their colours as well!

swanqween 12-22-2009 04:46 AM

Based upon website info (as there was not a chapter on my campus, or in So Cal that I am aware of):

Delta Phi Epsilon

I love the 'be true to who you are'

& superficially purple is my favorite color & I've loved unicorns since I was a kid. :)

I actually saw a pendant once that was a unicorn on a crescent moon that I thought was really cute :)

Based upon prettiest badge: AXO

ZetaGirl22 12-29-2009 12:14 AM

Although absolutely NOTHING in the world could compare to my beloved ZTA, here are some other orgs I LOVE

Alpha Delta Pi: was my second choice during recruitment. I loved the sisters in the local chapter, also LOVE the badge, colors, and crest
Kappa Delta: The local chapter at my alma mater might not have been the best fit for me, but I LOVE the fact KD works so closely with The Girl Scouts of the US. I was involved with GSUSA from first through twelfth grades in an extremely active troop, worked as a teenage staff member at Girl Scout Day Camp every summer in high school, went to sleep away camp when I was younger. I love everything about GSUSA LOL!
Pi Beta Phi: LOVE Pi Phi's colors and badge. Also, the mother of the family I used to babysit for as a teen was a Pi Phi. She was also my Confirmation sponsor and I really, really looked up to her. We didnt have Pi Phi on our campus though.

LoveKU28 12-29-2009 01:07 AM

I knew I wanted to be an ADPi the first day of Formal Recruitment. Now that I have spent a semester meeting women from the 13 sororities here on campus, I would want to be....

1) Alpha Chi Omega- This was my second favorite chapter during FR. I did "wanna wear the golden lyre!" Their house is so elegant at the chapter here! I love their philanthropy and their ties to music since I am a proud flutist! I love a lot of Alpha Chi's that I have met! They seem pretty similar to the friends I have as sisters in ADPi!

2) Kappa Kappa Gamma- My roomie is a Kappa and I love her to death, so that's reason enough for me to like Kappa! It's also cool that she and I share similar sorority colors, so our room decor goes together nicely :) The way they presented themselves during FR here is amazing; every girl looked so gorgeous and I had the best conversation there! If you ever make it to Lawrence, take a trip up Gower Place to see their AMAZING house! They have like forty million front steps, lined in flowers! Not to mention how cute their light-up key sign on the front of the house is!

3) Alpha Gamma Delta- My really good friend is an AGD, so I spend a lot of time with her sisters. They are so incredibly close! I hang out with my sisters frequently, but the AGD's spend soo much time together! They all hang out at the same places as each other and plan movie nights and dinners together. Their pref ceremony was beautiful during FR. I also love when the squirrels come along while I'm in my backyard! :D

Yay! Another Penn Stater! Welcome!

Slvk615 12-29-2009 07:29 PM

I love Tri Sigma but if I had to choose here are my choices:

Gamma Phi Beta- Because I love pink and I like the whole cresant moon thing

DG- because my RA was a DG and I thought she was awesome! and I love pink and blue/ the whole nautical theme

ohMycron 01-05-2010 02:32 AM

I also love my sorority (Alpha Omega Epsilon very very much, but my two other choices would be:

Delta Gamma, because I very much respect their international organization. On a more shallow note, I love the colors blue and pink as well. I would also choose Zeta because I love the crown theme and (almost) every Zeta I have met has been a fabulous, classy woman.

DG_princess 02-08-2010 04:36 AM

Wouldn't change being a Delta Gamma for the world! Love being a sailor!

SeXi~Fuzzy~F.06 02-08-2010 08:06 AM

I whole-heartedly adore being an Alpha Xi Delta.

But when I did go through recruitment at 18 my ranked choices were:
Alpha Xi Delta (hey! go fuzzie!)
Tri-Delta
Kappa Delta
AOII
Pi Phi
ChiO
Alpha Chi Omega

So, I'd have to go with Delta Delta Delta... Colors are fabulous (so close to mine!), I am a huge supporter of St. Judes, children, and cancer awareness (which is why I fell in love with AXiD's philanthropy of Choose Children, originally)... And each Tri-Delta I've met has been a wonderful girl! (Even girls I met before they were a Tri-Delta)

Which is funny, because my childhood best friend joined Tri-Delta at another school... And I had lost contact with her from 9th grade when she moved to Kentucky! I didn't find out until we were both Juniors in College!

mittens 02-08-2010 12:29 PM

If I had to choose (besides ΑΟΠ) I would choose....

ΓΦΒ - I love their colors, the crescent moon, and even their greek letters. "Gamma Phi Beta" -- I just love it.

ΚΚΓ - my favorite color is blue and I support their philanthropy :) I also like the whole "key" thing. I actually have a lot of key necklaces lol

ΑΞΔ - one of my good friends is an AXiD and she really persuaded me to go greek and I'm proud I did and thank her all for it. I love AXiD's philanthropy as well and their coat of arms is the coolest out of all the sororities that have a coat of arms.

ΚΑΘ - just want to say that I love their badge and their symbols lol

ThetaDancer 02-08-2010 01:34 PM

Delta Delta Delta: I'm big on family traditions and it would be nice to share this with some of my family members. I like the way their letters look together, and that the pine tree is one of their symbols. Plus, their flower is a pansy, like Theta! I love all the Tri Delts I've met.

Pi Beta Phi: Again, another organization that is represented in my family. I would have loved to share that with my fam. I love their colors and the way their letters look together. I've been impressed with all of the Pi Phis I know in real life.

Delta Gamma: I love their colors, badge, and symbol. All of the DGs I've met have been super fun.

FSUZeta 02-08-2010 03:36 PM

spoken like a true gentleman and diplomat!

tri deezy 02-08-2010 04:35 PM

Knowing what I know now, I would go Kappa Alpha Theta. My 18 year old self probably would have picked Kappa Delta, Delta Zeta, Delta Gamma, or Zeta Tau Alpha. Also, Tri Delta would have been on my list as well because my Grandmother was a Tri Delta and I liked the symmetry.

tri deezy 02-08-2010 04:36 PM

I want to know which sorority SenusretI would join.

TehKatzor 04-26-2010 02:12 AM

Well, I'd NEVER give up being a Delta Gamma; I take a huge amount of pride in my sorority!! :) That said, if I had to pick based on other stuff...

ΔΦΕ -- Their philanthropy (anorexia nervosa) is really meaningful to me, having struggled with the disorder myself, and their open motto (Esse Quam Videri; "to be, rather than to seem to be") really intrigues me. I LOVE the unicorn, and their crest is so cool. Also a huge fan of purple and gold. If there had been a ΔΦΕ chapter on my campus, I would have shown a lot of interest.

ΑΕΦ -- I'm Jewish, and that automatically attracted me to ΑΕΦ. I also love the symbolism behind the giraffe (biggest heart, and the head is above all others!). Lilies of the valley are also totally gorgeous... but nothing beats the cream-colored rose! ;)

ΑΔΠ -- They were one of my pref round houses, and I really did love what I saw. Classy ladies, a great philanthropy, beautiful sisterhood. I really loved ΑΔΠ.

ΑΞΔ -- Love the crest, love the colors, love the philanthropy, love the teddy bear mascot. Plus, the DBF is likely going to rush Sig Nu, and ΑΞΔ has ties there.

ΔΔΔ -- I was very impressed with this house during recruitment, but on my campus they tend to be very choosy and usually only take girls with recs. The Tri-Delts I know are very classy and very friendly, and so outgoing and gorgeous inside and out. Such a strong national reputation, too.

ΠΒΦ -- Love the philanthropy, the colors, and the fact that it's got an incredibly strong national reputation. I did *not* like the chapter on my campus.

ΚΑΘ -- The Theta chapter at my college is full of smart, classy, gorgeous ladies who have a huge amount of house pride. I was very sad when I was cut after the second round. Again, super national reputation. Also, I love the black and gold!

ΚΔ -- Finally, ΚΔ. I was a Girl Scout for years and I actively support Dove's Campaign for Real Beauty. Like with Pi Phi, not the best chapter on our campus, but a good national sorority.

There's my incredibly long-winded answer, but still, I'd never give up my bronze, pink, and blue!

Just a word of advice: It's fine to say that you may not have liked ABC sorority at your school, but be careful to make statements like "not the best chapter on our campus." That sends a very different message and your definition of "the best" will differ from others.

TehKatzor 04-26-2010 02:14 PM

Sorry! >< That is what I meant, that I didn't like the chapter on our campus. You're right, I did phrase that badly.

And even then, some things are often better left unsaid. Why say you don't like them when you could (1) say nothing or (2) say something more neutral, like you don't think you'd have been a good fit with them?

GeorgiaRose 04-26-2010 05:53 PM

Color makes me happy!

I've been involved at several schools so it makes the decision difficult!

I loved the Tri-Delts when I preffed them - they were my second choice.

I had many friends in Chi-O.

I love the Zeta colors and the chapter and women where I live are wonderful.

Phi-Mui was founded in Georgia which is where my heart is and they have a lot of wonderful members.

Anybody who has a chapter at the University of Texas

Can I be in them all?

GeorgiaRose 04-26-2010 05:55 PM

One more

or ADPi because my aunt was one and I would have liked the family connection.

MUSK81 04-27-2010 06:16 PM

For me, it would be ...

Theta Phi Alpha, for their Catholic heritage, their Appalachian and homeless philanthropic activities and their creed.

Alpha Sigma Alpha, because someone I admire very much is one and one of them contributed to the success of West Virginia's own Rocket Boys.

Alpha Gamma Delta, for their adorable mascot.

Alpha Chi Omega, for their beautiful badge and fine arts heritiage. I preffed them when I rushed.

Alpha Xi Delta, for their strong sisterhood. Although I personally didn't feel I was right for the chapter on my campus, I always admired their strength.

and Pi Beta Phi, since I think it's cool that they have an elementary school named after them in North Carolina.

There is also an outpatient brain injury rehab center in Nashville named after them. Thanks to the Nashville Pi Phi alumnae for their continued very generous support of the Bill Wilkerson Center, a comprehensive facility that treats all types of speech, language and hearing disorders.

As a former employee of the Bill Wilkerson Center, I can honestly say that my appreciation for Pi Beta Phi just grows stronger every year.

I have never told anybody what she told me, but from a ritualistic standpoint I think it's jaw-droppingly beautiful so I admire them a lot.

I admire Pi Phi, DG (love the anchor), GPhiB (love the crescent moon), or ChiO because I have several friends and family members who are in those, and I adore them.

Pi Phi because of their historical significance to Gatlinburg, Tennesse and the Great Smoky Mountains (my favorite place on earth to visit).

Pi Phi, Phi Mu, and ADPi for their historical significance (one of the reasons I was so attracted to Theta on my own campus).

Zeta, because I very nearly put them first on my pref card instead of Theta.

So overall... I think Pi Phi wins! But there are so many others I admire.

kappadee 05-02-2010 01:26 AM

i would have to say chi omega because that is what my mom was and i think that sharing that with her would be cool.... BUT i love KD and wouldnt have chosen anything else :)

Denverfriend 05-02-2010 01:58 AM

I think Delta Gamma. I have always admired you fabulous DG ladies!

DZlove012 05-03-2010 01:26 AM

I'm going to go with Delta Zeta, since that's what I did choose when I went through Rush. DZ is the 2nd largest sorority in the country, and the pin was voted the most beautiful sorority pin, but those are facts I learned after I accepted my bid. I chose DZ because of the sisterhood I saw, how each sister had a special bond with each other, and the philanthropies. I couldn't be happier in my choice and am proud to call myself a Delta Zeta.

DZlove012 05-03-2010 01:28 AM

Oh, and a bonus-turtles are too cute of a mascot. Turtles are deaf, and is our mascot because our philanthropies deal with the deaf and hard of hearing?

Splash 05-03-2010 01:57 AM

I could never give up DG :)

It takes the fun out of it if you say that you would join your sorority. It's neat to hear how other women view other sororities or what their reasons would be for joining :)

GTAlphaPhi 05-03-2010 02:07 AM

Too many to choose from! If I lived in a terrible world with no Alpha Phi, I'd be extra-interested in:

Kappa Alpha Theta
- Black and gold goes with Georgia Tech's colors and I like the single-letter nickname. No chapter at my school.

Kappa Kappa Gamma - Fleur-de-lys and ditto on the single-letter nickname. Sapphires are my birthstone. No chapter at my school.

Zeta Tau Alpha - Love the crown. Also at GT, "On Wednesdays, we wear pink." (line from Mean Girls that plays on ZTA's philanthropy).

Alpha Delta Pi - Gotta have respect for the ladies who started it all! Great chapter at my school.

Phi Mu - Love the pink, quatrefoil, and French motto.

Not to be a nitpicker, but where on Earth do people get these stats from?

I have heard the same about several sororities (ex: XYZ is the 4th largest sorority in the nation, or ABC is the largest sorority in the nation). I've seen them on FB groups, on Bid Day shirts, you name it.

Where does this info come from? Are there some super secret rankings I don't know about? lol. Or is it one of those "a bunch of people said it so it must be true" things?

I think she means Delta Zeta is the largest sorority by number of chapters (however, I don't know if that's total chapters ever chartered or active chapters). I think I've seen Chi Omega as the largest on that list and Alpha Phi as third. Another size-ranking is by the number of initiated members, where I think I've seen Kappa Kappa Gamma in the top three. However, I don't put too much value in those rankings because I have yet to see a primary source for those numbers.

During the new member period for Chi Omega, we were told that we were the largest in the nation. I will admit however, that I have no idea where that statistic comes from or whether it's based on number of chapters or something else.

I also recall that during recruitment, I was told that the ten largest sororities were all located at Virginia Tech.
