I didn't read the whole article (just skimmed it because Globe and Mail journalists are long winded and I got bored), but this code is BS. It's okay to play a little dirty as long as you don't seriously hurt the other guy. I don't think so. You want to seek justice. Fine. Be a man and confront the guy face to face.
The NHL has basically said they aren't going to do anything about this problem. So it looks like we're going to have to wait till someone dies before any action is taken. It's a shame.
Fighting is not the problem. It's dirty players that are the problem and the lack of punishment from the NHL that is the problem.

Woo Hoo I got playoff tickets.... to the Vancouver Giants that is - yeah for minor hockey. I am so starved for live hockey action that I am going down to the minors; however the Giants are doing really well and if they win tomorrow they will move into the second round of the playoffs.

I will let you all know tomorrow if I get my Canucks playoff tickets, as that is how I will be spending my saturday morning...:p

I hope I can get them - I haven't been to a playoff game in 10 years...

TreeHugger 03-30-2004 12:01 PM

Bah, at least your team is in the playoffs. I have to wait on the edge of my seat to see if the oil can hold on to 8th place.

On the plus side, this is proving to be an excellent distraction from final exams.

it's tight, but they're peaking at the right time...anyone catch the sens-t.b. game last night, whoa, on the edge of my chair the whole time - awesome.

bcdphie 03-30-2004 10:00 PM

Well I didn't end up at the Giants game saturday, cause my friend gave me tix to the Canucks-Stars game! First game I've been to this season - talk about leaving it to the last minute. It was a fun game - and the Giants advanced to the second round of their playoff series.

Well the Canucks have to make it to round 2, as my tickets are for the 1st home game of round 2. (I wasn't about to pay $187/ticket, so instead I paid $70/ticket to sit waaaaaaayyyyy up in the rafters...)

As soon as we start winning again so does Colorado - bah. I want that division title!

Tree Hugger I am rooting for the Oilers - it would be really awesome to have all 6 teams in the playoffs this year!

Woo Hoo! Edmonton knocks over the Stars and breaks the curse!

Any chance the Canucks can throw a game to help a fellow Canadian team make the playoffs?:p

LeslieAGD 04-01-2004 05:37 PM

The only things that sucks for Edmonton is that, I believe, they only have one game left...whereas Nashville and St. Louis have three.

Yay Red Wings...Western Conference Champs! :D

yeah, but Nashville plays the Avs and Chicago. The last one may be the blues, I'm not sure. They have a shitty record against the Hawks this season, and I doubt they can beat the Avs or the Blues.

GO OIL!

I don't know about that - we may just have to beat you this Saturday to win the Division Championship - I like the Oilers but not enough to give up knocking Colorado off its high horse and becoming the NW Champions ;)

LeslieAGD 04-01-2004 11:51 PM

Woo Hoo, Go Wings! President Cup Winners! :D

Some Fun Facts...

Are you Towel Power Ready?

Towel Power isn't just a Canadian thing, it's a Vancouver Canucks thing! It started with Roger Neilson in '82 and has snowballed into something that virtually every team in the NHL does. The difference is that we know what Towel Power is...we know that it's not just fans waving a white towel in an arena...we know that it's the ultimate way for Canucks fans to support their team through the toughest part of the year, the Stanley Cup playoffs. It's waving a white towel at the tv, it's getting your jersey on before every game, it's even decorating your car, window or house to show everyone just how big a fan you are! We are only a week away from the 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs...and we want to make sure you're ready to cheer your Canucks on to victory. (insert knock on wood and other superstitions here).

Back in 1982... The Birth of Towel Power... Stanley Cup Finals vs. NY Islanders...

This isn't my car, but sites like these will be popping up over Vancouver over the next week...

bcdphie 04-04-2004 03:46 AM

Yessssssssssssssssss

Canucks are the NW Division Champions - 1st time in 11 years (back then it was the Smythe Division) - what's even sweeter is that we just uprooted Colorado after 9 years as the division leader...

...meanwhile the battle of Western Canada will be taking place in the 1st round - Canucks vs. Flames.

It sucks that only potentially 3 Canadian teams could be left after the 1st round. But at least we know 2 will be making to the second round.

GO Canucks
GO Sens
Go Habs

Anyone interested in this competition... Let's see who's series draws the most penalties...

After just one game Canucks-Flames have a total of 16 minors - 32 minutes of powerplaying and penalty killing. I can't believe that slightly more than half of lasts night's game was played at uneven strength. Thank god the Canucks crappy power play decided to wake up.

It's gonna be different with each set of officials. Frasier will call more penalties than McCreary.

You know you love hockey when...

your family decides to forego the formal easter dinner in the dining room and have it in the kitchen so we can watch the game :p.

Nucks and Flames tonight at the Saddledome - yee haw!

bcdphie 04-12-2004 01:37 PM

The Moose is Loose.... that is all...

LXAAlum 04-15-2004 03:47 PM

Avs in control versus Stars, so far....but this was the same situation last year...up 3-1 against the Wild, and lost in game 7. Game 5 is must win for Avs.

Wings need to get going - no Stanley Cup playoffs are as exciting unless you can get an Avs-Wings series in it. At first, I thought the Wings would be favored should they both meet, but, I'm starting to get cautiously excited that the Avs have found their offense again.

Predictions: Avs over Stars in 5 or 6 (Modano might get lucky)
Flames over Canucks in 7
San Jose over Blues in 6
Wings over Preds in 7

Leafs over Sens
Boston over Habs
Flyers easy over Devils
Lightning over Islanders

Got my Avs flag flying proudly in front of the house! This should be one of the best playoffs ever...every team knows that with a lockout looming, it's truly a now or never situation, so we'll see some great action (let's just hope the Habs start playing for the Cup, and not the Tony Awards...that was disgraceful, and costly!)

geuss you haven't watched much playoff hockey.

Ottawa has won the last 5 game 5s, if we win tonight we'll take the east....(no jersey, no t.o. - np)

Hey shiobhan, tough break with calgary, but a lot of pp predicted them as this yr's dark horse - justifiably so, kiprusoff set the modern GAA record.

naw, that's too much effort....i just keep them around for backup toilet paper.

bcdphie 04-18-2004 04:17 AM

The Canucks should come with a warning sign that says:

Canuck fans should not have high blood pressure, be faint of heart, suffer from severe stress or heart problems...

My God, what is up with this team??? Why do they have to have their backs up against the wall to win???

A 4-0 lead and Calgary comes back and then Vancouver wins it in - not single - not double - but triple overtime.

Anyways just got back from driving up and down Robson - you would have thought we just won the series... and we are heading out to the airport shortly...

I still think Crawford is an idiot for pulling Hedberg and starting with Auld...

It was a very good hockey game though - extremely entertaining!

Go Mo

Triple overtime? I feel asleep during double.

As for flags.... it's insane - there are cars here with 3 or 4 of them.

My daddy has one... but I doubt my mom let him put it on the car.

Luckily it was a Saturday night and the game finished around 11:30 in Vancouver.

There are tonnes of car flags all over Vancouver and I've even seen cars with 3/4. Then there's the Canuck mobile with the Jovonoski bobble head hood ornament... passed those guys last night on Robson...

well my boyfriend is off to buy me a new car flag today - he said if they won game 6 he would get me a new one. I kinda feel sorry for the freak who stole my old one - it's over a year old and is all tattered...
