Hello,

I just wanted to clarify what she meant. We weren't using KBG to get on campus, we were a campus recognized organization before we were KBG. At the time, our founders did seek national status, but at the time did not have the requirements to become an NPC organization (obviously.) They sought recognition by another NPC organization, but that also didn't work out. All our founders wanted was national recognition with a sorority that held similar ideals. Then they found Kappa Beta Gamma. The #1 reason why girls at our school don't want to join us is because because they know we're not an NPC organization on our campus, as opposed to DZ, AST, and ASA (who just came to our campus a year ago). While we love our chapter, and we all worked hard to get where we are, our time on our campus is questionable. While I'm not personally sure about the idea of being absorbed, I can understand her frustration.

Seems like you're putting your chapter so far above your organization that you can't even see it anymore. Although not NPC, KBG is national, no? And, as such, has organizational ideals and processes. While I think chapter is important (especially on the collegiate level), it's not the be-all-end-all of greek life.

Having a tough time recruiting =/= "ZOMG THIS ORG SUCKS LETS FIND A NEW ONE!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!"

NPC chapters that are having a tough time recruiting (and there are tons of them) can't just switch organizations at the drop of a hat - they either improve their recruiting or are closed, and the members can never join another sorority again (effectively). You guys should possibly consider what that means.

Ironically, this is what you think of NPCs, and yet you want to be in one.

Hm...

And while I don't know 33girl personally, when I think of her, the last thing I picture is a cutsey sorority house and Barbie dream car.

I imagine her driving the Batmobile.

Oh please hooker. I KNOW you are the one who borrowed my olive green Jimmy Choos (the ones with the gold ring, not the ones with the ankle strap) and never gave them back. Don't even try to kiss up to me.

Why should 33girl get to stomp around like a giant, while the rest of us try not to get smushed under his big feet? What's so great about 33girl? Hm? AzTheta is just as cute as 33girl. AzTheta is just as smart as 33girl. People totally like AzTheta just as much as they like 33girl. And when did it become okay for one person to be the boss of everybody, huh? Because that's not what GreekChat is about. We should totally just stab 33girl!

DrPhil 05-17-2011 11:26 AM

Kaorin_Kanoe, allow me to ask a question with no ill intent. Strictly curiosity. Were you ever an MCGLO, LGLO, or NPHC interest? Nothing wrong if you were, just curious based on some things that I have noticed.

Yes but would it require stabbing 33girl? We should leave 33girl unstabbed...until further notice.

I humbly offer the following for consideration in my application process (this is the public part, right?):

It did seem fitting, and I can do those moves, totally. Years of practice it took, but I mastered them.

Why, k_s, yes, it's true that KK is dumb as a post with a potty mouth at the top; but it's not nice to point it out since she does a fine job of demonstrating that all on her own.

What was it Honey taught me to say? "bless her heart" or something like that?

They are what's "left over" after the other sororities get the first years.
They are a chapter for the "rejects."
They are a chapter for the oppressed who simply want their piece of the pie.

As found in peer reviewed journal articles such as "House Bunny," "Mean Girls," and "Never Been Kissed," the rejects watch from a distance but secretly want to be one of the cool kids if only for one day. And those who can, do and those who cannot, join Kaorin_Kanoe's chapter.

I understand that. Like I said, I wasn't sure about the whole seeking absorption idea, I was just saying how I can understand her frustration. I wouldn't be too quick to jump on the NPC boat just yet. We have enough chapters now to join NPC, but we need to wait two years or something like that (after the last chapter was installed) to apply for NPC affiliation. But no, I agree, our founders and alumni wouldn't be very happy if we were to get absorbed. I get that. Don't attack me :(

^^^^It gets talked about in the big expansion thread in Greek Life pretty much everytime a KBG chapter disafiliates from KBG and pursues NPC affilitiation.

If a woman wants to join an NPC organization, then she probably shouldn't look into your sorority and end up disappointed. If you aren't finding interested women, it's because you're not looking hard enough, representing your organization proudly enough, and/or personally connecting with women who might be interested.

Based on your attitude, I wouldn't want to be your sister.

Should I cry that you don't want to be my sister. Trust me, the feeling is mutual. I'm tired of people asking me that if I wanted to be NPC then why did I colonize with KBG. I. AM. NOT. A. FOUNDING. SISTER. And you have some nerve saying that we're not looking hard enough. You don't know what goes on on my campus that prohibits from getting the results that we would like. My sister wear our letters everyday even though we're blatantly outnumbered. I don't think you know what it's like to have people say to your face that they're pledging Delta or Alpha before they're even eligible to apply to greek life. Excuse me if I've been sounding like a total monster on GC, but it's painful to hear people say that they won't join us strictly because we're not NPC. We're in the middle of a catch 22. They say we're too small but then people won't join us. As of right now I have 13 and as of next year there will be 5 of us left. The other sororities are just begging that we get kicked off campus because so that they can satisfy their quota. The shallow reasons that people DO give for joining an NPC is hysterical. If I join I get a free Tiffany's necklace. If I join I get to wear their letters. If I join I get a free credit card (I kid you not) But nope...nobody wants any sisterhood...just a new pair of diamond earrings. So come on. Let me have it. Shame on me for reaching out for a little help from the Greek community.

Miss Kaorin_Kanoe: there are enough rather involved alumnae on the regional/national/NPC levels on this board that knows quite a bit about Greek Life on hundreds if not thousands of campuses (campii??) in North America. Maybe not your individual chapter, but quite possibly in your state and on your campus. Not intended to freak you out or anything, but sadly none of us are as anonymous as we may think on a message board. Just a bit of food for thought...

You would have gotten a better answer if you asked a Magic 8 ball.;)

But, seriously. I think a big mistake GC newbies make, such as yourself, is to assume that GC holds all the answers to your GLO issue(s). We don't.

Do we offer suggestions and helpful advice as much as possible, we do.

We can not solve your problem for you. We can not give you the specific answers you are looking for.

If you are as frustrated as you seem, then talk it out with those on your campus who can help you the most. No, we don't know your campus, sorority, or how Greek life really is on your campus. So, we can not not offer any specific advice to you.

If you are having trouble recruiting, think about why. Talk it over with your chapter. Talk it over with your Greek life adviser. Sometimes many chapters go through cycles. You just might be in a "down" part of the cycle, but that does not mean it is the end of the world for your chapter. You and your chapter just may have to work harder, and that could be a good thing. What you are going through now may be the catalyst your chapter needs to pull together. And, when other girls on campus see y'all clicking, that is what attracts people - seeing true sister / brotherhood.

I don't think you want to give up. It sounds like you are at the end of your rope, and you don't know what to do now. Don't give up.
