Here's hoping the girls put up better performances than the guys did.

Sigh.

You would think none of them had ever seen the show before and had never heard the concept of "song choice" or do something besides standing there like a stiff.

Even Paula is disapointing... not near as drunk/high as she was last night so her comments are actually relevant and logical. Give me Drunk Paula... much more entertainment value on a night when the contestants are snoozers.

darling1 02-20-2008 10:05 PM

this is really pathetic

since some of these chicks have other professional experiences, their performances should have been tighter.

Benzgirl 02-20-2008 10:21 PM

This season is soooooooooooo boring.

RBL 02-20-2008 10:36 PM

things are starting to pick up... (slightly)

and I agree.. the performances should be tight...

RBL 02-20-2008 10:57 PM

Syesha needed the anchor spot tonight instead of Carly

ComradesTrue 02-20-2008 11:00 PM

yeah, I wasn't getting the whole Carly thing at all...

LeslieAGD 02-20-2008 11:06 PM

Sigh, another snoozefest. I only liked Alaina, Ramiele, and Syesha.

Why is it that some of these contestants are amazing during auditions and Hollywood but then can't sing a decent note once they make the top 24?!? So disappointing.

Tippiechick 02-21-2008 01:06 AM

You would think they only gave them a very small group of songs to choose from... WHY out of the American Idol clearanced catalog would they pick those songs from the 60s?

Oh, and Randy-- Connie Francis is the one we remember for singing "Where the Boys Are."

THANK YOU!!! I said the exact same thing to my husband. And then he was giving Simon crap later about being in the music business and not knowing a song!!

nittanyalum 02-21-2008 09:42 PM

I've gotta give Paula Abdul credit -- ol' girl looked GOOD in her video!

I recently saw a preview of Janet Jackson's new video, she looks really good too.

Go late 80s/early 90s icons!

ComradesTrue 02-21-2008 09:56 PM

Yay, "America got it right" tonight! The 4 that should have been voted off were!

Benzgirl 02-21-2008 09:57 PM

Yeah, but it's still dull. Maybe I've seen too much AI over the years.

Completely agree. I still don't get how the Leif Garrett kid made it on.

ComradesTrue 02-21-2008 09:59 PM

Okay. So "Leif Garrett's" hair... was styled with a curling iron.

????

Me either. Didn't get him at all.

I did enjoy, though, how quickly Ryan pulled that first trigger to send someone home -- that was different and I didn't see that coming. :p

The group performance sounded terrible, though, I thought -- and what's with all the costuming, etc.? I wonder if they'll do that every week? I hope not. I also hope the producers have learned to NEVER kick off the season with 60s night again. That was horrible.

Hehe, I commented on the same thing to my husband. I didn't get that, at all.

I wasn't really surprised with any of them, although I thought the 4th one wasn't as bad as some of the others.

LeslieAGD 02-21-2008 10:35 PM

I think America got it right with Amy and Garrett, but I was surprised by the other two. I think there were other people who were a lot worse.

ZTAngel 02-21-2008 11:01 PM

I had a work event so I missed it. Who got voted off?

nittanyalum 02-22-2008 12:14 AM

These 4 are gone:

Another awful night of Idol :(

I only liked David Hernandez and David Archuleta. Everyone else was either beyond boring or just plain terrible.
Also, I have to add that I noticed that David H. has a bit of a Cat Deeley crooked nose and now it's all I see when I look at him.

RBL 02-26-2008 11:36 PM

I don't know what the hell that first half was.... boring and terrible

Comeback of the Night- Chikeze... he performed that song and came across a bit more likable(Donny Hathaway lover here).. may even vote

Lil David... he can sing.. but like Jordin last year I find myself bored with the cute act

David H..... he was pretty good....

Thats all worth mentioning

I liked those three too and I also liked the guy with the guitar -- David Cook? is that his name? But OH MY GOD does his hair drive me insane.

Do you mean Jason Castro as the kid with the obnoxious hair? He played a guitar last night, and as far as I am concerned has the most riduculous hair on the show (now that Curing Iron Leif has met his exit).
http://www.americanidol.com/media/co...bs/jason_c.jpg

This is David Cook, who I can't remember if he played with a guitar or not, but I felt bad for him when Simon was attacking him for being boring since he is a "Word Nerd."
http://www.americanidol.com/media/co...bs/david_c.jpg

I still can't keep them all straight myself... except for Lil David who gave me goosebumps when he sang "Imagine." I normally am anti the high school set, but this kid does seem to genuinely have something. And Sober Paula had the line of the night that she wanted to squish him up and hang him from her rear view mirror.

nittanyalum 02-27-2008 12:01 PM

^^^I meant David as the one I liked but can't stand his hair. I don't like Jason's voice OR hair.

And did anyone else catch how miserable the long blond-hair rocker-wannabe guy looked while everyone was fawning over how David C. is the "real deal" after his performance? At one point, you could see him up in the balcony and he just looked so unhappy. He does protest way too much that he really, really is a tough rocker dude while he definitely has more of a pop voice. David C. has more of a rock voice, though he doesn't pull off the "persona" as well as Chris Daughtry did. (and the crossword thing, while it gives him points in my book, doesn't necessarily toughen up his "rock" image)

Benzgirl 02-27-2008 06:54 PM

I just heard a recap on Fox News and MY EARS HURT. The one guy, David Cook, cracks me up. He is terrible and doesn't realize it. He just keeps smiling as he hits everything flat.

LeslieAGD 02-27-2008 10:46 PM

The girls weren't too bad tonight. I didn't really care for Alaina, Alexandrea, Joanna, or Kady, though.

ComradesTrue 03-04-2008 11:22 AM

Turns out one of our beloved idol contentants previously worked as a stripper...

http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/TV/0....ap/index.html

Sister Havana 03-04-2008 09:10 PM

Oh Luke. I really wanted to like you, but that performance sucked.

Senusret I 03-04-2008 09:11 PM

this little latin boy looks awful in the face when he sings

OhSoVeryLadylike 03-04-2008 09:28 PM

lol

Ditto.

Actually, make that 3 Davids. Add Cook to the list.

Senusret I 03-04-2008 09:47 PM

What's the name of that hallelujah song? I want to download it.

LeslieAGD 03-04-2008 10:15 PM

Generally, I enjoyed the performances tonight (...but maybe that's just because the 80s ROCK!!!). David Cook was my favorite this week; great adaptation!

Fingers crossed that the stripper scandal doesn't affect David Hernandez too much because he's really one of my favorite voices in the competition.

I am hoping that Luke and Jason leave on Thursday. I just don't get why either of them are still around.

Co-co-co-co-cosign!!!! And I'm a fan of all the Davids too. I like Chikeze (sp?) too.

And Senusret, the Hallelujah song is originally by Leonard Cohen, here's the version by Jeff Buckley Simon said is his favorite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AratTMGrHaQ

Okay, so glad that you said that. Every time that Jason sings, and then the judges pour praise on him, there is this giant question mark just floating over my head. For the life of me I just don't get him.

PeppyGPhiB 03-05-2008 01:02 AM

I liked Luke and Jason tonight. On the other hand, I thought David H. sucked and sang most of his notes off-key. And I think Daniel has terrible stage presence - is he trying to look like a drag queen the way he prances around stage?

Several artists have covered this song, and what I like about it is that the song seems to change slightly from one artist to the next - haunting to sad to hopeful - just based on the emotion expressed when singing it.

Rufus Wainwright (version included on the Shrek soundtrack): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmbQE...eature=related

KD Lang (an unbelievably moving performance IMO): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlXV1...eature=related

John Cale: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckbdL...eature=related

Bon Jovi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Rlc4...eature=related

Sheryl Crow (fast version): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWDfH...eature=related

Allison Crowe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIMOd...eature=related
