I was thinking about this yesterday! November bring Twilight and James Bond. It's going to be a movie month!
|
I just started listening to Twilight on audiobook yesterday. So far it seems great.
|
I got one of my sisters hooked on the books, and she got her mom hooked...lol
|
I'm thinking of picking up Twilight. The movie was shot up here in the Pac NW, so I'm sure it will be both beautiful and dark, and I find it funny that people are actually journeying to Forks from all over the world. Forks is in the middle of nowhere, granted it's a pretty part of the state. The town has uncovered a new source of income - "vampire" tours!
|
Just stumbled across this thread. We are big Twilight fans at our house! I am even letting my high school daughter go to the midnight showing of the movie this Thursday night (a School night!).
If you have not read Stephanie Meyer's other book, The Host, then you are missing a good one. It is totally different than the twilight series, probably more adult oriented, and science fiction. I truly never read science fiction, so I was hesitant, but I also never read vampire stories and look where that got me! I really liked it and definitely recommend it. |
I picked up Twilight in the airport last week, and now I'm hooked.
I will be picking up the other three books sometime this week. |

I'm glad I'm not the only one! :D I read it and immediately wanted a sequel or a television series...there just seems to be more to tell. |
I swear I posted here early this morning. I'm not letting my daughter go to the midnight Thursday night/friday showing, primarily because I'm not staying up that late to drive her home.. I have to work Friday. We do have tickets for the 7:15 or 7:30 showing Friday evening. I bought tickets for the girlie, 4 of her friends and me. They even said they'd let me sit with them.. a rare thing for teenagers!

I read in the USA Weekly "magazine" that comes with our newspaper, that they are already in production for a New Moon movie. Although I love the series of books, if they were going to make a sequel of Twilight they seriously should have skipped over New Moon. It's goign to be such a waste of money, I seriously doubt if I'd ever see it (shoot we don't even know if Twilight will be good) and that will be a killer for an Eclipse (which i think is the best of the books) movie.
|
I think they are waiting to see how well Twilight does in terms of box office numbers. I just got it last Thursday, finished it Friday evening (after work), and I bought New Moon last night, and I am already finished with it.
|
I will be attending a Twilight viewing party and there will be a photographer from our local newspaper covering our party. It should be fun. ;)

So if you haven't watched the movie, and don't want to know ANYTHING about it, then don't read my post! lol
I'm undecided how I feel about the movie. One part of me likes that it didn't drag, and another is just really annoyed about the parts they altered/left out for no reason. There are the big things like: In the book, Jacob is the one that tells Bella that Edward is a vampire. In the movie, Bella makes the discovery herself. I really don't understand why they changed the scene. When Bella & Edward are at the Cullen house, Edward talks about the Volturi. In the movie, there is no mention of the Volturi. I don't have my book with me, but I could have sworn the book ended w/ Bella's birthday party. In the movie, it ends with Victoria (seriously wtf?) Then there are the little things like: At La Push, they weren't surfing, they were at a bonfire. I don't remember ever reading that Edward calls Jacob a "wolf." The story of how the other Cullens change is left out. (I think we only read about Carlisle and Esme....maybe Emmett) I DID like the castings. Jessica and Mike were soooo what I thought of when I read it. (Interesting choice of ethnicities for the other characters) I still don't like Rob for Edward, or Nikki for Rosalie. I LOOOOOOOOVE Alice. She translates better on film than in pictures, and it is so what I thought of Alice (although I always pictured Alice shorter, more childlike) Jacob is HOT. And the actor that plays Billie Black is a lot different than what I pictured. I always thought Billie was older (with white hair) and in the movie, he's pretty freakin attractive. |
I thought Edward called Jacob a "dog."

I saw it and liked it a lot. No mixed feelings here. :):)

ETA: I think I understand what you are saying about it being a "preview" now. Since it technically is the first chapter of New Moon. I still think that if they wanted to foreshadow something, it should be the b-day party instead of Victoria. |
I went to see it with a group of my students. It was great! Loved hearing their reactions, particularly since the book is more for their demographic than mine!
|
I'm guilty of seeing it twice within a 24 hour period. :)
|
I loved and so did the 6 14/15 year old girls I took to see it. We were all ready to watch it again immediately! I thought they did a wonderful job with casting and I'm amazed that they really captured the intensity of the Edward/Bella relationship from the start. Since I read the first three books in quick succession, I didn't really remember what happened in which book. I had always pictured the Cullen house as a big old Victorian mansion rather than the new modern glass house, but most everything else was just as I'd imagined. Oh! Except Charlie. I didn't expect him to be quite that hot. I thought he'd be more disheveled, more overweight.. less, HOT. I think they tossed in a hot Charlie for us moms who had to take their daughters to the movie! Yeah, I'm Team Charlie now..lol.
I'm almost always disappointed with movies based on books but not with this one. This one was great. |
OOH, I can't wait to go see it! I was weary of reading the spoilers, but I already read the books, so how much can the thread spoil it for me? I was being responsible and getting ready for Thanksgiving today. Maybe tomorrow??
|
Saw the movie and LOOVED it..at first I was a bit wary because I wasn't too sure about the way the characters were cast but it was totally awesome.. I'm soo ready to see it again. That movie made me love Edward even more (if that's even possible)!!!! Charlie was SOOO hot like I imagined him being some gruffy old guy that wears flannel and too tight pants or something to that effect lol so needless to say I was pleasantly surprised to see that piece of eyecandy playing Charlie. I was a bit curious about how the movie was going to end but I think the director did a pretty good job on the ending.
|
I absolutely love this movie! I'll admit it, I've seen it three times as of yesterday afternoon :)
All the characters were exactly as I had pictured them! It was almost like the director had asked me to cast the roles in the movie. This movie is definitely my new favorite!!! |

So i've been thinking about a friend of mine who I HATE going to the movies with because she's always telling me "this didn't happen in the book" or "that's wrong" blah blah blah, and I always told her that the movie can't be exactly like the book. Yet, I acted exactly like her when I was complaining to my bff about Twilight. I realized that I really did like the movie, and it fully did live up to my expectations. I guess I just wanted the movie to be just like the book, and it can't. I got it confirmed yesterday when I saw a clip of Twilight on Headline News (is that MSNBC or CNN??) and I got a little tingly feeling. I only get that feeling when i've seen a movie I really like. |
I saw it a third time yesterday. I think my best friend and I are obsessed.
|
I thought it was good, but definitely not as good as the books. I think there are some things you would only really pick up on if you read the books, but you could enjoy and understand the plot without having read them.
The actor who played Jasper is REALLY good. The Cullen house is exactly what I pictured for the honeymoon house on the island. Did it make me want to see the next one right away? No. But will I? Of course! |
My sister in law is a big fan of the books and is dying for me to go see the movie with her (we're chick-flick buds), so she brought the first two books to my house on Wednesday so I could read them before we go.
Well, I loved them (even though the demographic they are written for is about 30 years my juinior ;)). I finished the second one last night and we're going to see the movie tonight! I am really looking forward to it!! |

Ok, I read all four books within a week. :embarrassed:
I must love the books because less that 24 hours after I'd finished Breaking Dawn, I took it to my Soror's house for her to read. The movie isn't on my list until Wednesday or Friday. |

Don't be, I read Twilight on a plane to Minneapolis, bought New Moon while I was at the Mall of America and while I was at the airport to come home I bought Eclipse. I lieft on a Friday and came back on Sunday. :) |
I give.
I bought Twilight this afternoon and plan to read it once I finish the pile of books I'm already reading. I know it's not going to be anything even close to the brilliance of my beloved Buffy. I just can't resist the hype any longer. |
I read Breaking Dawn in one day. :)
|
I just saw the movie and loooooooved it. Some of the effects were a little cheesy, but that's to be expected for a low-budget film. I did, however, think the casting was BRILLIANT (except for the actress that played Esme-I couldn't get over the Grey's thing). I want to see it again!
|
Bwhaha!! If they get as far as making all the books into movies, I cant WAIT to see Breaking Dawn.
|
I just finished reading Breaking Dawn, after picking up the books last week while I was sick & home from work. I can't believe these books have sucked me in as much as they have, I've barely put them down! I'm going to start re-reading them next, as I have no desire to see the movie. I'm always disappointed in movies made from books I like.
|
After weeks of watching my high school students sneak this book into class....I gave in a read it....I read the whole book in 24 hours...within a week I had read the whole series!!!!
The movie was good, but could never been as good as the books... I took my sister to the movie this weekend and she had not read the books....She thought it was the best movie ever and wanted to watch it again...I then bought her the book and now she is happy! :) |
I re-read New Moon this weekend. I got my BFF into the series now and was going to let her borrow my copies, but uh.. I don't want them away from me, lol! I let my Soror borrow Breaking Dawn (the day after I finished it!!) and she's still not done with it yet. BFF is going to have to get her own copies from me as a late birthday/early Christmas gift. :)
|
I went and saw the movie and really liked it and am now tempted to read the books. I have to admit, though, that I read the summaries of all 4 books on wikipedia and it seems like the plots get more and more ludicrous as the series goes on... not sure I can handle that.
But I have a huge embarrassing crush on Robert Pattinson. |

I read the first two books in two days. I didn't understand how a story about vampires could hold my interest so much, but it totally has. Last night I went to Borders and bought Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. epchick, you're right they do totally suck you in. I have no idea what it is. I also saw the movie this weekend and really liked it. breathesgelatin, I have an embarrassing crush on Robert Pattinson now too.
ETA: on a side note, I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only non-teen who loves this story. I was getting pretty sure I had mentally reverted back to my teen years. |
