Congratulations, UWO!!! I'm so glad you found the right place for you and Gamma Phi is lucky to have you!

Wow, I've only kept up on 3 recruitment threads so far and they've all resulted in membership at Gamma Phi Beta! Congrats to all!

I use Photobucket: www.photobucket.com
Open up a free account, then upload the picture.
Once the photo is uploaded, go to where it is located at the bottom of the page.
Copy what is in the Direct Link Field.

Go back to GC and start a post.
Click on the Insert Image Icon (yellow square that looks like it contains a mountain).
Delete the http://
Paste your link that you copied from Photobucket, and the image should appear

Also, if an NPC sorority colonizes on a campus while a student is a graduate student, would collegiate membership be allowed in that case as well?

Good God, woman, do you EVER give up?!

Many of the system schools have smaller Greek systems with less traditional pledge classes. Sure, there will be plenty of 18-year-olds, but there will also be a decent amount of upperclassmen and juniors rushing, both transfer students and non-transfers, and it's not out of the ordinary for these students to be older than is traditional for students to be. I rushed at Madison, the biggest and most traditional Greek system in the state, and my pledge class was still almost half sophomores with a smattering of juniors.

I really wish people would not try to speak for campuses where they aren't familiar with the Greek system.

WORD. I still remember how women on GC acted when I was going through recruitment - PMing me threatening to turn my new chapter in for violating the Green Book is the best example. My pledge class was all sophomores except 1, and the pledge class after that was all juniors. It's not unusual at the smaller state schools for chapters to be very upperclassmen-heavy.

Anyway, UWO, welcome to Gamma Phi! A sister from my chapter transferred to there a few years ago, although I am not sure if she's active anymore.

KSUViolet06 09-24-2007 05:12 PM

This thread is prime example of the fact that EVERY campus is different! What is unheard of at some schools, is the norm at another.

What kind of violations did they think were happening?

Disclaimer to all nosy busybodies: my chapter does not do this anymore, so turning us in will make you look stupid, and there are no other NPC sororities on this campus, so your sorority was not being hurt by this behavior.

For several years when our chapter was in a numbers slump, we had men (generally the big men on campus types, student body president, etc.) of the (then) most popular fraternity on campus dress up in black suits and come to the dorm or apartment of the woman who was invited to preference to escort her to the preference ceremony, which was held at the home of a university official whose wife is an alumna.

I know, this is simply egregious.

Wish I was invited to your pref.

UWO_2007 09-25-2007 07:13 AM

for informal last night we went to the dorms to pick up our attendees and then escorted them from the house back to campus when it was done.

scandalous!!

that actually sounds cool. i wouldn't mind being escorted to a pref party by a "big man on campus" :D

UWO_2007 09-25-2007 08:41 AM

We were given roses and sung to by Beta Theta Pi... that was funny and super sweet. (We're making pizza with those guys tonight)
Last night was fondue night.... tonight is pizza night.... tomorrow is game night (twister!!)

Oh, most girls do. ;) I thought it was really sweet -my boyfriend at the time was somewhat of a BMOC (and was in that chapter) so I knew the guys who picked me up, but it was fun as an active member to see how impressed the girls were that we knew those guys and were friends with them. :) We usually had a bonfire with their chapter a few weeks after bid day and also had a toga party with them.

Update on the chapter that "dirty rushed"....
so Monday it continued where they had an informal recruitment with a fraternity... they had a cook out. Evidently last night I found out that we had planned making pizzas with another fraternity last night but where told it was against PH rules to use boys as a recruiting tool, so we changed our plans and made cookies and decorated them for the boys instead. (We delivered them after PNM's had left)... well sorority ABC had lights out all night... so I asked.... because of what they did they were not allowed to hold any recruitment events last night as their punishment. So as our PNM's were leaving, members of ABC began heckling at our PNM's telling them to "go home". Our president called everyone upstairs and said she didn't want anyone in our group to engage in anything like that with ABC or we'd be brought up on standards.
If ABC made their own bed, why are they mad at us because now they have to lay in it?? It's not like someone in our group turned them in... the PH head on our campus happened to drive by Monday night and saw it.
Ohh... but our president has a B/F in the fraternity we were going to make pizza with, and we found out there was a reason they wanted to... it was her b-day and her B/F gave her a lavaleer (I don't know if I spelled that correctly or not)... it was sooo sweet... all the brothers gave her roses and they all sang to her... I guess that is why we ordered pizza and made cookies for them at our event.... everyone knew except for her, so we had to have an excuse why we were going over to their house....

Wow...the panhellenic spirit is not burning brightly at your campus! I completely agree with your president. I'm sure no one's ritual would endorse the kind of behavior exhibited by ABC. Sometimes it's best just to not stoop to their level!

For future reference, it's lavaliere. :)

Honestly, girls will be girls, sorority or not. All you can do is make sure you guys are acting Panhellenically, even if everyone else isn't.

UWO_2007 09-26-2007 10:10 AM

yes, thank you for the spelling, I figured it was wrong.... :D
our president was VERY adiment about us not behaving like that. She was so mad that they did that with our PNM's (We had 12 come back last night, I don't know what the # is for tonight). But she is hoping that by ignoring it, they will find something else to occupy their time. I think we're getting the brunt of it because they live directly across the street, the others live down the street...
